Learners Girls Foundation
1.Educational lapses in rural communities ;We observe that most children in rural areas and deprive families could not have access to quality education due to the lockdown of schools and inability to access e-learning platforms online as a result of cost constraint and lack of educational logistics.
2.The Learners Girls Foundation wants to help provide support for children by providing volunteer teaching, mentorship programs and fundraise to purchase educational materials such as books, laptops, create a compendium and e-library for this girls and also introduce them to more advance methods of learning
3.It will motivate and encourage children to focus on their education through the testimonies and mentorship that will be given by the volunteers. Children having access to modern ways of learning through the e-learning initiative and support with educational materials. Children will access e-books, PDFs, through our e-library program with a collections of many different categories of books
- In response to accessibility and quality of education amidst the global pandemic, the domestic publishing industry has published numerous online educational materials to satisfy the demand of distance learning, self-spaced learning and of-classroom studies. Educational articles, pdf’s and books have become the order of the domestic publishing sector with the government of Ghana introducing the online syllabus of 2019-2020 academic year alongside with the restructuring of primary and junior high schools to Basic school (Basic 1-9, Junior High school inclusive). Students transition to use completely e-learning methods amidst Covid-19 have faced so many setbacks such as inadequate accessibility to network devices, poor network connection in rural areas, cost of internet accessibility and others. The media such as TV stations and radio channels employed teaching and learning through their channels to improve on distance learning.
Business oriented publishing companies have embraced the use of online learning to facilitate their programs. This has also contributed to an improved online learning program, even though costly.
The child education and empowerment through mentorship and e-library initiative will be for children between the ages of 6-18 years. The targeted group of children will be educated and mentored by trained volunteers. The project will also involve purchasing of laptops and other educational materials which will be furnished in a structure to help children in the rural communities access tutorials and e-books. The structure will also contain book shelves to store reading books for the children. The structure will be an e-library where children can access electronic educational materials with mentorship and tutoring support of volunteers. Hardcopy books will also be install in the structure for references. The project also involve recruitment of volunteers, creating of a compendium of children writings, seminars, innovative competitions and training of children on STEM especially the technology aspect.
Many young girls in the rural communities cannot further their education or some end up dropping out of school as result of poverty, parental opposition and ignorance of some parents to the importance of inclusive quality education for girls and its impact on the society. Some of the parents do not also enroll girls early enough as a result of household activities; the parents engage the girls to take care of their siblings instead of going to school. These had much effect on girl child education hence leading to teenage pregnancies, school drop outs and social vices. We have plan to implement the volunteer mentorship and tutoring support to help minimize this challenges as well as parents education agenda to enlighten parents on the importance of girl child education. The monitoring approaches we will be using is through our volunteer mentorship reports and girls training and innovation Programs
- Increase the engagement of learners in remote, hybrid, and physical environments, including strategies and tools for parental support, peer interaction, and guided independent work.
women and girls continue to be excluded from participating fully in science education and careers. Girls’ participation in (STEM) subjects in secondary schools and higher education is still lower than that of boys. In the Upper East Region of Ghana where the project focus on, a gender gap in education persist and fueled by gender stereotypes and expectations regarding girl’s duties at home. There is also a socio-cultural aspect of male domineering power in the society with discrimination to the duties of a female and traditional career options coupled with parental and peer influence.

With the recent increase in knowledge of science and technology globally, the access to the internet devices have such as Google clouds, Telegram, WhatsApp, Zoom classes, e-books, online video tutorials and lecture slides, educational pdf’s and power point presentations have thus for promoted accessibility to remote learning and the quality worth recommending. However, inadequate knowledge on the use of internet devices, negative diversional usage of mobile networking devices coupled with negative media influence, peer pressure and influence have always been the enemy to achieving complete remote learning. The value remains that e-books with other emerging tools as stated earlier have impacted positively on the accessibility and quality of remote learning and has brought STEM fields closer to children in rural areas.
Our team will make available e-learning platforms in rural communities which will go a long way to empower children and reduce poverty in the near future.
