TechHausa
- Pre-Seed
With the rapid change in our everyday lives due to the advent of technology, a solution is needed to educate the less literate and rural women and girls on technology and its uses.
TechHausa seeks to enlighten rural and less privileged women on the use of technology for their businesses, education and awareness campaign in various aspect of life using the indigenous language of the area which is Hausa for Northern Nigeria. Due to the cultural setting in Northern Nigeria that limits the learning of women, we want to take technology learning to their doorsteps.
Digital and technology literacy in the far north is practically non-existence. Many of these women and girls have the phones and are curious enough to chat or comment on social media especially Facebook. They are susceptible to scammers and hackers who recognize the illiteracy of the users and harm them. Women and girls in these areas can’t reach out to the town with their goods and services for lack of knowledge on how to advertise their goods on these platforms.
These women from our research are curious to know how to use technology to improve their lives. They get on social media platforms; ask about how to create campaigns and awareness using the media. We at Brainiacs women in stem will create classes in local governments in these states and teach a selected few, who will in turn teach others on the use of technology. We are going to get certified teachers in Hausa who will explain technology in simple terms to these women and girls.
We will be targeting 100 women and girls in each local government of a state. With an estimate of at least 25 local governments we will have a total of 2500 participants from each state for the pilot program.
Track each participant and the level of development in digital literacy during the training. - 1st batch 100 women and girls trained in each local government.
Suggest a platform to be created to solve a problem of each local government. - 100 women and girls participants trained and using process taught.
Test participants and track participants development. - Select best participants to train next participants.

Taking the use of technology to each locality and being taught in their native language has not been done in Nigeria. This solution will shorten the gap between the tech savvy and semi/less tech savvy in Northern Nigeria.
Our solution which will also provide the opportunity for the participants to participate in creating a technology solution that is peculiar to their locality. This will generate enthusiasm in young girls to want to pursue technology oriented courses when they get to school.
On ground trainers will be available for participants.
The participants get to participate in creating the platform that will suit their local needs.

We are passionate about getting young girls interested in STEM. As coordinator Women in STEM Brainiacs. I have been advocating for mentoring girls in STEM and STEM careers.
With TechHausa a wider range of beneficiaries can be reached. this will boost the economy , at the same time upgrade the intellectual capacity technology wise of the less privileged. With the cultural settings of Northern Nigeria, engaging with them in their setting and local dialect will increase their interest in technology.
