Computer Shiksha ( Shiksha = Education )
Under-served students, world-over, don't have access to computer literacy in this online digital-age !
Computer Shiksha(CS) offers free computer literacy programs as a service to schools who are already successfully engaging with communities but lack digital resources. We provide Self-Learning Videos, refurbished computers, train a teacher per school, assist in monitoring, evaluation and certification of students and help with life-long maintenance and other support. Currently we reach 106000+ students.
With Covid changing all our lives; CS will also be offering its video course-ware on smart phones where the student, even from home, can watch a CS video and practice at the same time using split-screens on their mobile.
This will give CS an opportunity to deliver computer literacy to a student wherever she is; allowing us to reach more needy students. These models could be scaled globally, serving as a God-sent boon, especially for the under-served.

Under-served students across the world don't have access to computer literacy which is a challenge in just surviving life in this online digital age ! Computer Shiksha (CS) is aiming to leave no-one computer illiterate !
The world faces a tremendous range of unmet needs related to education, health, food security and energy use. In India, we need to improve access to and the quality of education.
There are 400+ million school-age children who are not able to afford an adequate education as per the 2001 census. These disparities, driven by class, caste and region are one of the greatest challenges that the world needs to address.

CS aims to combat the troubling features of education inequality by providing free technology access and instruction set for under-served students. We offer computer literacy programs as a service to schools who are already successfully engaging with communities but do not have the resources to produce an effective Digital Literacy program.
Exposing children to the modern marvels of the personal computer can serve as a mechanism that will better their lives substantially. The impact ranges from attracting more children to come into the fold of formal education and to pursue further education.
Computer Shiksha(CS) offers computer literacy programs as a service to schools who are already successfully engaging with communities but do not have the resources to produce an effective Digital Literacy program.
CS aims to combat troubling features of education inequality by providing technology access to the under-served; building an ecosystem for providing Computer Knowledge and Training with passion and commitment and to deliver value in the form of Computer trained people, who use this skill for the betterment of their lives.
CS provides Free Computer literacy through Self-Learning Videos in schools catering to the under-served by delivering refurbished computers, training a teacher per school, assisting in monitoring, evaluation and certification of students and assisting in life-long maintenance and other support to these schools.
With Covid changing all our lives; CS will also be offering its video course-ware on smart phones where the student, even from home, can watch a CS video and practice at the same time using split-screens on their mobile.

Although Computer Shiksha (CS) aims at allevating computer illiteracy world-wide, our current focus is providing Free Computer Shiksha ( education, literacy ) at schools who cater to students from under-served communities.
We are trying to reach free Computer Literacy to students from the under-served communities and these could be right from KG to college levels. Indirectly, we also impact the community ( teachers from there and parents and siblings of these children ) and people at other stake-holders who are involved with this mission.
Simply put, the overarching desire of the Computer Shiksha team is to leave no one computer illiterate on the face of this Earth. We have made a beginning with initially targeting kids at schools that cater to the under-served communities in India and, to some extent, in Ghana, Africa. As many as 1,06,000+ such kids in 567+ CS enabled schools across 16 states and 500+ kids in schools in Ghana, are already reaping benefits from this missionary work of Computer Shiksha.

Computer Shiksha is thus imbibing in these kids a way of life which enables them to at least stand on an equal footing with their better privileged friends. We are building the requisite confidence and pride in these kids which will allow them to succeed in multiple walks of life.
It has been reported that :
1. Whichever school, we started our courses in, the no. of admission requests to that school increased dramatically, as word spread around about computer education available there
2. On the days, computer literacy is provided, the attendance improves compared to the days, when it is not the turn of computer course
3. The sheer confidence that children gain once they start computer education is awesome to watch
We have interviewed many students of various schools, and their testimonials have been recorded and are available on the first page of our website www.computershiksha.org under the heading Testimonials. These not only convey what students feel about computer education that they are being provided, but also are heartwarming stories, as they share their dreams and aspirations.
Just in India alone there are about 330 million kids who are awaiting this intervention and we will keep bridging this gap as much as we can and as quickly as we can. And, for a true long-term perspective; as our Founder President says : "We will leave behind an initiative which will be nurtured by many like minded citizens of the World" !

Besides the children, Computer Shiksha impacts the community from where these children come. At many CS enabled schools the teacher is a person who didn’t have a job. Most of them were just 10th / 12th pass people who had mostly not even worked ever on a computer and these people after being trained by Computer Shiksha are very confidently handling CS classes. These courses have also had an impact on the families from where these children come from in that these kids are now enabling family members to work on-line for rail reservation, for video connecting to relatives in the Gulf and especially in the Covid era, finding resources and applicable laws/ instructions etc. from local and National level bodies.
We have also reports of Teacher Associations benefiting from computers being available to support each other in the CS classes and other school activities. Volunteers from different Corporate bodies are also happy to connect with CS enabled schools to not just take IT enablement further but also promote various Awareness Drives like for Road Safety, Safe ways to work with Cororna, Traffic Rules etc.

- Enable access to quality learning experiences in low-connectivity settings—including imaginative play, collaborative projects, and hands-on experiments.
The challenge of computer illiteracy is, unfortunately all pervasive and ubiquitous.
It seems that the Computer Shiksha(CS) model of computer literacy has been developed and fine-tuned to meet the parameters of this Challenge!
CS enables access to quality digital learning experiences and is used in an off-line mode such that it is amenable for remote low-connectivity geographies.
One Student - One Computer :Each student is mandated to sit and practice her learning on a computer specifically ear-marked for the student; thereby providing ample room for imaginative play, collaborative projects, and hands-on experiments.

- Scale: A sustainable enterprise working in several communities or countries that is looking to scale significantly, focusing on increased efficiency.
Currently, Computer Shiksha (CS) reaches 1,06,000+ students in 560+ schools spread over 16 states of India; and has a presence in Ghana. It is a model which can be replicated and sustained in new geographies across the World. We are now working on delivering the CS model of computer literacy on mobiles so that it becomes accessible to students, whether or not they can attend school due to pervasive pandemics.
