Educational Information to youth are key
WAKUYG is designed to mobilize and sensitize +-100 of marginalized and disadvantaged adolescent girls, young and indigent HIV positive women and Trans women who are not pursuing a post-secondary education and generally end up on the bottom of the socio-economic ladder, often houseless in their homeland and without hope for the future. We will provide these learners with an affordable option to attain basic knowledge and skills, so that they can be proud of who they are, explore and prepare for a career of their choice, attain basic life skills on sexual and reproductive health right including financial literacy, and participate in food sovereignty efforts and environmental stewardship. If scaled appropriately, they can access same opportunities if they are comprehended from an early age on these fundamentals. Ensuring they have access to quality education from a young age which broadens and expands their opportunities in future.
WAKUYG aims to address the existing issue of lack of educational opportunities, by sensitizing +- 100 marginalized and disadvantaged adolescent girls, young and indigent HIV positive women and Trans women of ages between 15-29 who are not pursuing a post-secondary education and generally end up on the bottom of the socio-economic ladder without hope for the future. The project solution envisions to provide the skill and knowledge to the under privilege so that they can recognize and use the resources around them for their holistic empowerment.
We are proposing shelter home and after school Centre as well as capacity building workshops, and talk sessions to make sure they will be protected against high risks activities that increase their vulnerability to GBV and sexual assault, physical and sexual abuse,
HIV/AIDS and unwanted teenage pregnancies. The number of adolescent/marginalized girl’s and OVGs in the project area is 80 yet increasing due to covid-19 pandemic and most of them are under the age of 18. Incorporating public, private and valuable community resources, learners will be provided the expertise and the support that they need to reach their full potentials.
Our empowerment program is to help combat high rate of school drop-outs, rape and domestic violence, HIV/AIDS and alcohol and substance abuse amongst youth. Through participatory learning and sharing the project with others will empower the beneficiaries, their peers, their community, and Namibian nation at large.
The right to shelter because housing is important as protection against threatening elements, like violence, abuse, disturbances and noise. Shelter is also important as an arena for privacy, personal space, dignity and peace.
Therefore we will provide shelter and support them to attend school, secondary school and tertiary education and provide home based care and support for HIV/AIDS affected and infected people. To improve living standards of disadvantaged girls and vulnerable members of society to provide them with basic needs for upgrading and development for our fellow Namibians.
To provide capacity building workshops to build a grass root response to violence, psycho-social and collaborating with likeminded NGOs to advocate for the rights of children and elimination of violence, health risks, exploitation and discrimination.
Namibia 2020 population is estimated at 2,540,905 people at mid-year according to UN data. While Windhoek the capital city of Namibia was estimated to 325,858. Our project focus at 0,6% population of Windhoek and Windhoek rural areas.
The technology serves the school population (youth and learners) and it develops interest and curiosity among the learners. It can be used in every school subject areas and also stimulates the thinking and senses of the learners.
+- 100 adolescent marginalized and disadvantaged adolescent girls, young and indigent HIV positive women and Trans women of ages between 15-30 in communities of our project catchments. Early Childhood Development impacts social and emotional health because young minds develop a sense of independence and curiosity as they grow in their love for learning. . I believe that education, information and shelter are the most important three (3) issues because many other important problems would be solved (or greatly reduced) if we addressed this to all the children of the world and they would have a chance to be educated. Hunger would be eliminated and many diseases would disappear. The project will be implemented in Freedomland informal settlement (slums) situated north-western part of Windhoek in the Capital City of Namibia, as well as in the Windhoek rural areas (Farm school), as well as where we have Support Groups in Mix informal settlement and Groot Aub informal settlement. We believe that communities should be involved in identifying and solving their own problems therefore has held interviews with the parents/guardians/caretakers as well as numerous meetings were held for insights on their experiences to form the contributing body of solution.
As Wakambadhala Kusindi Youth Group we want to help our peers make responsible decisions, we want to implement youth to youth program. Youth support groups should be created not only in our informal settlements of society but also in other parts including middle and upper class suburbs.
- Enable access to quality learning experiences in low-connectivity settings—including imaginative play, collaborative projects, and hands-on experiments.
In most cases many girls of poor families (informal settlements and farm schools) stop education at an early age and many girls without parents work as household servants, but if we use shelter, food security, education and empowerment training workshops on SRHR we will give them skills and resources to escape health risks, school dropouts, early pregnancies, violence, exploitation and discrimination. I believe we can tackle and solve this economic challenges to ensure cost effectiveness, quality and sustainability as well as increase the number of girls and young women participating in formal and informal learning and training
- Concept: An idea being explored for its feasibility to build a product, service, or business model based on that idea.
The development stage of our solution, currently working with communities by providing space to learn, doing after school care, helping with homework and the adolescents/marginalized girls has lamented that they need innovation in education, e.g. tables or computers with installed digital text books, competency based learning etc. to explore, research and use all the tools to develop creativity, shelter and financial support. This project is proposing to partner with existing educational innovators with out standing solution products to create digital learning environment for the after school Centre. To promote active and deeper learning. With the help of other partners combining existing design elements we can create new and different ways for the future innovations.
- A new application of an existing technology
This project is aiming to address youth sustainable skills and empowerment which are aimed at enabling them to access quality education.
Provide a positive learning environment that promotes student autonomy in learning. build classroom conditions to promote higher reading engagement and conceptual learning through such strategies as goal setting, self-directed learning, and collaborative learning
In-order to ensure the highest quality and achievement, each student is
assigned a mentor depending on the students area of interest. A
one-on-one mentorship will provide the support to keep the students engaged throughout their learning journey.
Our purpose is to nurture the young creative female self and in the process co-create with her what’s never existed before. We are promoting innovation by providing adolescents with opportunities to lead on solving problems in the beneficiary communities by creating, designing new methodologies and innovating solutions. Creating and promoting websites, apps and social media that encourage adolescents to provide feedback and influence decisions on issues including community problems, disaster risk reduction, peace building and conflict resolution
