A Marriage Made In Heaven / 天堂之约

My paintings will be a journey to visually explain a new type of living style made with protocells and smart materials. These materials will be able to sense and adapt to the surroundings, also solving serious environmental issues like air pollution. My art  will begin to show that flora robotics is a way to save the earth by reconnecting nature with the human quest to explore new ways and new paths.

Technology is an integral and sometimes overwhelming manifestation in my world-- and so it needs contact, communication, understanding and fusion. Technology can help keep forests alive, can monitor ocean changes, can sense when a plant is sick--can self repair our homes to keep us safe. Smart materials, graphene and programmable AI will change how we live.

I am currently preparing for an art exhibit first in Shanghai and will be working on the pieces for the next 12 months. The pieces will be presented in different medias. In the next 12 months I hope to complete the exhibit and present it in Shanghai and then to other cities all over the world.

By organizing art exhibits, especially when it becomes a traveling tour, more people will understand the impact living architecture will have on their lives and their cultures. Through the visual images I create I hope to spark the minds of those who see my art so that they begin to add their dreams and  take action in order that we continue to thrive on planet earth.

My art exhibit will collect the email address of those who visit the exhibit to become an online community of artists and engineers brainstorming the future. I will have a web page for the art exhibit so that outreach to teachers, students and schools all over the world who can use my exhibit as an attractive teaching model.

All people of the world can be touched by art, can be motivated to feel “Mono no Aware”-- that beauty exists in our world, and though fleeting, it always returns. It never abandons us. We must protect the planet so that this cycle of beauty will always return. My art will, I sincerely hope, instill in many, the sense of beauty, and the sense of becoming one again with nature. At the moment those who I am brainstorming with about Living Systems, flora robotics, self healing smart materials are with me on trying to save our world.

In twelve months I believe I can reach tens of thousands, and with the right publicity, I can reach millions and millions (if television does a program on my exhibit). In the years this number can grow and grow, to audiences all over the world. With a ‘virtual exhibit’ available on my website--countless people can see without having to enter an art gallery. And with a teaching model for schools that can be downloaded from my web site, new generations can see what nature and human ingenuity can do--together.

My art must be so beautiful that it continues to haunt (and inspire) the viewer long after the gallery grows dark. The resources I carry within me, and I hope that each brush stroke will prove that I have translated into art, the voice of nature trying to befriend humankind once more.

Revenue is not the end goal- I envision a small charge (or no charge) for patrons of my art exhibit. Any funds collected can be used to further the ‘reach of the show to other cities’. The long term profitability will be found it how my paintings can touch the hearts and creativity of others-- they will spread my art into the future.

MIT Solve gathers together those who paint with other pastels and watercolors and acrylics. They create with robotics and biology, and they aspire to the same vision and trajectory that I do. All solutions for the future will come from collaborative work. I want my art to be the spark to show where we come from and where we need to go. I want to be the open door that those with vision walk through and begin to build a way for us to return to harmony.

I'm not yet fully familiar with technologies that make up living architecture, like protocell and smart materials. I am learning as a paint, so I hope that Solve can provide me the opportunity to discover and gain knowledge in areas that relate to what I am illustrating.
