Survenus
Every year infectious diseases outbreaks kill more than 6 Million people and cause losses of Billion of Dollars to world economies, showing no signs of slowing down. Survenus is a web platform that aggregates all the meaningful information, available in hundreds of data sources, about disease outbreaks and related environmental and socioeconomical factors, acting as the single layer for analytics, simulation and forecast of their evolution and risks associated, removing uncertainty from outbreak management and increasing our understanding and resiliency as a society.
Our Early Warning System is capable of predicting the incidence of infectious diseases up to 5 years in the future with an accuracy of 95%.
In 2019, Malaria alone infected more than 3% of the world's population. Infectious diseases represent one of the leading causes of mortality and their outbreak proneness presents catastrophic consequences to worldwide economies, as demonstrated by the 15% GDP reduction suffered by Sierra Leone, during the 2014-2016 Ebola outbreak.
After centuries with consecutive severe disease outbreaks, not much progress has been achieved. Humanity still faces challenges quantifying diseases impact, let alone be able to predict and identify public health emergencies with sufficient anticipation.
The combination of scarce, inconsistent and non-standardised data
available, the inefficient surveillance systems lacking prediction and
analytical capabilities about situational evolution, the lack of citizen
observations integration and a deficient dissemination of findings
contributed once more for the inability to avoid a new large scale
epidemic, something becoming increasingly recurrent during the last
decades.
Survenus is an Early Warning System for epidemics, capable of forecasting the incidence of infectious diseases and outbreaks up to 5 years in advance. It consists of a software ecosystem divided into four interconnected layers:
1) Data & Fusion: scalable big data engine responsible for collecting, cleaning, treat, validate and store data about the incidence of infectious diseases, environmental conditions and socio-economic indexes, from configured sources in real-time.
2) Intelligence: proprietary AI engine responsible for analysing, extracting insights from the collected data through the correlation of the monitored indexes and build the corresponding forecasts up to postal code level.
3) Users & Interaction: tools to interact with
ecosystem data, a Web platform and API for businesses and governments
and a free Mobile app (soon to be released) for the general population.
4) Community: citizen observation integration through a notification tool available across the interaction tools which empowers the discovery of unknown public health problems.
To achieve reliability, Survenus only collects data from official
local health sources. Currently, it monitors over 100 diseases worldwide,
achieving 95% accuracy on the forecast of their incidence and
correspondent outbreaks, according to the field trials conducted in the 5
continents.
We provide the tools governments, businesses and citizens need to overcome their daily challenges and improve decision-making processes.
1) Governments need access to early warnings on emerging public health emergencies to be able to implement efficient prevention policies and procedures that assure citizen health and safety.
2) Businesses need access to early warnings and granular health data
to quantify epidemic risk within their operations, investments, supply
chains, services and products.
3) Citizens needs access to properly validated and easy to understand epidemic information around their location, specially when travelling.
Survenus was developed from inception in close partnership with our target audiences, including the insurance industry. Several field trials and pilots were performed during the development of Survenus, with organisations and
currently with current beta testers of the Mobile app.
- Strengthen disease surveillance, early warning predictive systems, and other data systems to detect, slow, or halt future disease outbreaks.
Survenus aims is to provide a Early Warning System that quantifies epidemic risk and identifies public health problems before they occur, by monitoring the real-time incidence of infectious diseases and related factors, like environmental variables (e.g. temperature..) in regions of the world, enabling a transborder systemic monitoring.
With the release of our Mobile app, we will integrate anonymised migration information into our prediction models, increasing their capabilities and contribute to the decrease of transmission and spreading, by providing populations with curated information about the epidemic situation, recommended procedures and a communication channel where they can share details about unknown problems.
- Pilot: An organization deploying a tested product, service, or business model in at least one community.
After field tests in several countries and pilots projects conducted alongside entities from different industries, like insurance or farming, during 2020, achieving results that surpassed the expectations, Survenus entered commercialization stage in January 2021. Since then we closed collaboration agreements with several entities inside the insurance industry and we are currently negotiating with several other organisations and governments
- A new technology
1) Survenus is the first early warning system for epidemics capable of forecasting public health emergencies up to 5 years in the future.
2) Survenus provides highly granular geographical epidemic data, empowering uses in business applications, like insurance.
3) Survenus provides a fully featured web platform and an API, enabling the integration into proprietary systems and the creation of new services and products.
4) Survenus created a Software as a Service model that enables its long term sustainability.
