CONVERT ANY BED TO A BARRIER NURSING BED
A recent publication stated that out of 100 Covid 19 patients 80 got the infection from 5% of the initial patients. Isolation prevents spread. Most infect others during the time that they wait for getting their test reports. In crowed homes it is difficult for others to wear the protective masks and other equipment all the time and many rural patients cannot afford them
The solution to the problem is to isolate the patient at home in their own bed converting it to a barrier nursing facility. The air sucked out of the airtight enclosure is sterilized before letting out. When the patient needs to use the washroom, he / she can wear PPE to go to the washroom.
The existing method allows the patients to move around spreading the virus while waiting for the results. Scaling up will prevent the Pandemics
The second wave of the Covid 19 Pandemic devastated the rural areas in India. Within days of the first few infections the spread was rapid and overwhelmed the health care facilities. The situation is similar in many of the LMICs.
The problems were that the infected persons spread the virus while they were waiting for the results of the tests. The air contaminated by the virus was not treated. The isolation facilities are not airtight. The patients avoided these facilities as relatives were not allowed and were stressed staying alone. PPE for relatives is expensive and difficult to use all the time.
Not all the patients need treatment at a health care facility. The innovation offers means of measuring the oxygen saturation and making decisions about treatment easier. The further spread of the virus is prevented by the negative pressure suction and filtration unit
The solution is simple. It isolates those suspected with Covid in their own bed with special barrier nursing facility. The patient is in an airtight transparent enclosure with suction and filtration of the sucked air. There are facilities for food transfer and for people outside to use hands and touch the patients etc. yet staying outside the transparent barrier. There are facilities for checking the oxygen saturation and temperature and for collecting blood samples with the outside person staying outside the barrier. The patient uses the PPE to go to the washroom.
The Barrier Nursing and air management technologies are used.
The target populations usually work with local Non-Governmental Organizations to help in them in many ways. These organizations would be involved in finding out the suspected Covid Patients and informing the technical team to install the isolation & Barrier Nursing facility. Zoom meeting software would be used for consultations with the doctors and deciding on the treatment
- Equip last-mile primary healthcare providers with the necessary tools and knowledge to detect disease outbreaks quickly and respond to them effectively.
The problem being addressed is a well know problem of the Covid 19 Pandemic that has recently devastated the rural areas in India. The solution addresses the spread of the Pandemic and as effectively shown in some areas prevents further spread of the virus and Pandemic stops in that area. The project uses the local well know Non - Governmental Organizations and health care facilities that have good reputation in the communities that are served
- Prototype: A venture or organization building and testing its product, service, or business model.
We had tested the isolation technique in Jharkhand and the new Prototype in Tripura along with a team from IIT Bombay
- A new application of an existing technology
It is an innovative approach as most of the current practices are concentrating on the preventing the others from getting the infection by wearing masks, PPE and so on and other innovations are for treating the patients rather than containing the virus.
The innovation starts preventive measures as soon as there is suspicion and decontaminates the air that the infected person breaths. The solution would also be less expensive

Since it is in very early stages there are only few beneficiaries
The indicators are
1) The number of patients / suspected patients isolated
2) The number of patients in the area as compared to number of patients in control areas where they are not used
- Hybrid of for-profit and nonprofit
Currently it is a small project with 5 full time staff. The rest are outsourced
The Project Lead is a Urologist and Laparoscopic surgeon who has many innovations and projects. Earlier we have implemented Gas Insufflation Less Laparoscopic Surgeries that take Laparoscopic surgeries to remote and rural areas and Laptop Cystoscope that equips every surgeon to perform Urology diagnostic and minor procedures. The technical team is incubated at and is from the Indian Institute of Technology in Bombay a premiere Engineering institution in India
Our team believes in team work on several needs and thus the doctors and engineers worked together to develop Gas Less Laparoscopic Surgeries, low-cost Cystoscopes and many other low-cost equipment. The team has trained may doctors and other staff in rural and mission hospitals
- Organizations (B2B)
The Solve can help by providing the $10000 for the 10 initial sets that we need before starting the study in Tripura
- Business model (e.g. product-market fit, strategy & development)
- Financial (e.g. improving accounting practices, pitching to investors)
Once the publication is successful and show the desired results in Tripura then we need to scale up quickly to control the current pandemic.
Any partners who are willing to work with us are welcome as the need is urgent
