MUNDITECH
Our technology can make a major contribution to disease control and
pandemic prevention, especially for diseases transmitted via smear or
droplet infection.
MUNDITECH has discovered a new mechanism of action to combat enveloped viruses and bacteria and to stop their spread. Based on our patented technology, we have developed products (brand: Mundex) that can be applied to almost all surfaces (hard surfaces, wallpaper, breathing masks, filter materials). The protection is at least 1 year. Mundex is free of biocides and nanoparticles and is very effective against all enveloped viruses (coronaviruses, vaccinia viruses) and bacteria (E. Coli, staph. aureus, MRSA, pseudonomas aeruginisa and others). Mundex is environmentally friendly, non-toxic, very well tolerated by the skin and harmless.
Particularly in countries with low hygiene standards, we see
opportunities to ensure low-cost prevention against the spread of
diseases.
On 29 September 2020, WHO reported over 1,000,000 confirmed COVID deaths out of over 33,000,000 confirmed infected people. However, these are
only the confirmed case numbers, not including the number of unreported
cases. In addition, every year more than 250.000 patients in the U.S. and Europe die from hospital acquired infections.
Disinfectants used to combat viruses and bacteria only have a short remanence time, i.e. they kill quickly, but within a short time the effect is no longer there. Antimicrobial paints and varnishes based on nanosilver or biocides are harmful to the environment and have a much slower effect than disinfectants.
Our solution is optionally a transparent (or coulored) coating, which can be applied to almost any surface and which shows self-disinfecting properties. No antimicrobial additives are used (no biocides, no nanoparticles). The mechanism is free of chemical and ionic interactions. The polarity of the coating exactly matches the polarity of the cell membrane of bacteria and enveloped viruses, allowing hydrophobic interactions. Bacteria and viruses adhere to the coated surface and are deactivated within minutes without the use of biocides or nanoparticles.
If oil (non-polar) is added to water (polar), the oil drops remain for a long time because the polarity of oil and water are different. If oil drops are added to petrol, they dissolve. This is the mechanism of action.
In comparison to classic disinfection, Mundex has a permanent self-disinfecting effect, not only at the time of application, as is the case with alcohol-based disinfectants. The treated surfaces only need to be kept clean and free from dirt or killed bacteria/viruses and thus remain permanently active as long as the coating is present. A check can be made with a UV-lamp in order to make sure the coating is still there.
Our solution can be applied preventively to contact surfaces such as
door handles, light switches, handrails and elevator displays, but also
to walls, furniture or air filters to provide a permanent basic hygiene protection against viruses and bacteria.
Applications are diverse and include hospitals, retirement homes, kindergartens, public areas, bus and train stations, gyms, offices, restaurants, hotels, soccer stadiums, cinemas, theaters and much more. As the underlying mechanism of action is new, we believe that our technology is effective against all types of bacteria and against all types of enveloped viruses.
Particularly in countries with low hygiene standards, we see
opportunities to ensure low-cost prevention against the spread of
diseases.

- Strengthen disease surveillance, early warning predictive systems, and other data systems to detect, slow, or halt future disease outbreaks.
Our solution makes a significant contribution to improving infection control and preventing outbreaks of infections. Our solution provides permanent protection and closes the gap between individual disinfection cycles.
- Growth: An organization with an established product, service, or business model rolled out in one or, ideally, several communities, which is poised for further growth.
During the Corona pandemic, we were able to make a contribution in Germany by coating contact surfaces with Mundex or equipping respiratory masks with our product antiviral. Our customers include bus companies, fitness studios, doctors' surgeries, government institutions, kindergartens, retirement homes, hotels, restaurants, and many more.
- A new technology
Safe and environmentally-friendly solution without biocides, metals and nanoparticles; mechanism is based on a physical effect without chemical or ionic interactions.
The technology has been proven as very effective against Corona viruses by covering large areas with our coating without having the danger of environmentally negative effects.

Currently, thousands of people come into contact with our products. We expect hundreds of thousands of people to come into contact with our products next year. In five years, we expect this number to increase to millions.
One of our goals is to make our products as sustainable and environmentally friendly as possible. This relates primarily to the product formulations. Our products are not dangerous goods. In a next step, we want to adapt our products so that they are also suitable for direct food contact. We then have the opportunity and can equip paper for food packaging so that plastic waste can be reduced.

2 fulltime employess + 2 part-time employees +3 advisors from university
Our team consists of very experienced members from industry and university. Most team members has more than 20 years of experience in chemical industry, technology consulting and formulations of paints & coatings.
CEO: PhD and diploma in chemistry and business administration and more than 20 years experience in R&D, business development and marketing.
Assstant: Bachelor of chemistry and economics.
Advisory board:
- Professor of chemistry, specialized in development of paints & coatings

Our team is committed to partnership, open innovation and inclusive technology and to anti-racism. Allthough we are a small company, we strongly believe that diversity, open-innovation and inclusive technology are the key-factors of success.
- Organizations (B2B)
As one of the leading research organizations in the U.S, the MIT could be a multiplicator and stakeholder to accelerate the awarness of our technology and to support market introduction worldwide.
Our technology is suitable for the simple prevention of hospital infections globally as well as for combating and preventing infections caused by viruses and bacteria in all areas of public life.
- Public Relations (e.g. branding/marketing strategy, social and global media)
- Monitoring & Evaluation (e.g. collecting/using data, measuring impact)
The technology on which our products are based can be rolled out globally without great expense and is an ideal complement to conventional disinfection. The spread of dangerous diseases can be limited in a simple way.
The limiting factor is currently communication and the publication that a technology exists that can do this. Traditional disinfectant manufacturers see their business threatened and are not interested in supporting our technology. However, we do not see our technology as competing with classic disinfectants, but as a kind of basic hygiene protection.
It is therefore important for us to find stakeholders who can neutrally evaluate the possibilities of our technology and who are willing to support and publicise the technology in those areas where it can make an important global contribution to preventing and combating infections.
We would very much like to work with MIT and other organisations that are able to neutrally evaluate our technology and support a global roll-out. We believe that we can only find such partners outside the industry, as our technology is seen as disruptive and a threat to many companies dealing with classic surface disinfection.
- Yes, I wish to apply for this prize
Our technology is designed to protect the health of U.S. citizens and prevent healthcare-associated infections. However, we see the value of the technology not only in the U.S., but also in other countries with lower hygiene standards.

We believe that it makes sense to establish our technology as standard in the healthcare value chain as a form of basic hygiene protection. The advantage over existing solutions is that our technology does not use biocides and is therefore very environmentally friendly and can be used on a large scale without harming the environment.
