Solution Overview
Solution Name:
Uburu Health
One-line solution summary:
Uburu Interface is a stylus operated, Tablet-like device that replaces the paper records at primary health centres.
Pitch your solution.
Imaging a world where LMICs have strong data infrastructure at the grass-root level! Imagine how efficient it would be to perform diseases surveillance, vaccine delivery tracking and better logistics planning if we can improve access to data across Primary health centres in LMICs.
These centres are maned by trained health officers/nurses who are used to documentation using pen and paper. The Uburu Interface device mimics this behaviour as it is stylus operated (holding a traditional pen), and eRegisters (with the exact appearance of paper registers) can be uploaded/installed into the device. Making a user feel nonetheless different than writing with a pen on a paper register.
With global deployment of the Uburu interface device, health stakeholders would have access to better quality data in good time for decision making; this would impact the lives of children getting vaccines, communities post-disaster accessing health reliefs etc..
What specific problem are you solving?
Poor data infrastructure at the grass-root health systems in LMICs.
What is your solution?
Imaging a world where LMICs have strong data infrastructure at the grass-root level! Imagine how efficient it would be to perform diseases surveillance, vaccine delivery tracking and better logistics planning if we can improve access to data across Primary health centres in LMICs.
These centres are maned by trained health officers/nurses who are used to documentation using pen and paper. Making a user feel nonetheless different than writing with a pen on a paper register.
Every character impression by the stylus is an electronically stored; and word files/excel sheets can be instantly generated. Drastically cutting the time spent in digitising paper records.
The device is finger print powered and data export is automatically encrypted; upholding strict data privacy.
Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
People living in LMICs would be most impacted by our solutions, as it enables development partners and other health stakeholders better plan programs that enrich their lives.
Which dimension of the Challenge does your solution most closely address?
Strengthen disease surveillance, early warning predictive systems, and other data systems to detect, slow, or halt future disease outbreaks.
Explain how the problem you are addressing, the solution you have designed, and the population you are serving align with the Challenge.
Disease survelliance is hardest in health systems with very poor data infrastructure, this is most prevalent in developing countries of the world. These areas lack government funding to properly equip primary health centres with basic infrastructure, such as computers, training staff, internet connectivity etc. to enable better access to data.
Hence, a solution that blends into the routine practice of staff, causing negligee disruption to their adapted behaviour of functioning and also is not reliant on internet would drastically improve data access and it's utility such as diseases surveillance.
In what city, town, or region is your solution team headquartered?
Enugu, Nigeria
What is your solution’s stage of development?
Concept: An idea being explored for its feasibility to build a product, service, or business model based on that idea.
Explain why you selected this stage of development for your solution.
we have designed the concept of our tablet device and we're currently exploring manufacturing options in china to develop prototype versions of our concept.
we also have an advanced stage discussion with the Enugu state ministry of health to pilot our prototypes as a prove of concept in 30 primary health centres across the state.
