COMPUTER LITERACY PROGRAM FOR SCHOOLS
Most of the teachers in both primary and secondary schools, mostly in regions (unlike big cities) can not use computers or run mobile based computer programs. The situation is worse for pupils/students (young girls and boys) who most of them are from poor families, and they have not even seen a computer (Laptop or desktop). Most of the students starts using computers when they join colleges/universities, with no or very limited knowledge on how to use it. This brings a very big gap between those who came from big cities and the rural/small towns even in terms of learning.
The project will help reduce this gap, as the trained teachers will continue teaching their students who will be enrolled after the program, while the 250 trained students will act as peer tutors for the rest of their colleagues using the two desktops provided in each school.
All children have the right to go to school and learn, regardless of who they are, where they live or how much money their family has. Quality learning requires a safe, friendly environment, qualified and motivated teachers, and instruction in languages students can understand. It also requires that learning outcomes be monitored and feed back into instruction.
Most of pupils, students and teachers in Tanzania, like elsewhere in Africa lack access to technology. The situation cases learning environments being difficult to cope with the world’s growing technology in learning, while on the other hand teachers/trainers in this technology being also a challenge.
The project will reach 5 teachers and 250 students (boys and girls) in five selected secondary schools, who will directly be trained on basic computer skills, using some computer programs (like Microsoft Office), web browsing, email & internet and how to use different social media channels to explore and share beneficial learning/teaching resources
The project aims at provision of basic computer programs knowledge to teachers and students in five selected secondary schools of Kasulu district, as a way of improving their digital skills in using tools and technology. The project will reach five (5) teachers and 250 students (boys and girls) from five schools, who will directly be trained on basic computer skills, using some computer programs (like Microsoft Office word, Excel, Publisher and power point), web browsing, email & internet and how to use different social media channels to explore and share beneficial learning/teaching resources.
The project will involve procurement of ten desktops for five schools (two per school), five laptops (one per school) for both learning materials preparations and training tools, five tablets (one per school), five projectors (one per school for teachers to utilize them in their future teaching), development of training materials/modules and training of 5 teachers and 250 students.
The project will run for six months, in five schools consecutively with two trainers having different sessions at each school in a week. Mydia-tz through its project officer, in collaboration with the Kasulu town council will ensure efficiency, effectiveness and sustainability of the project.
