Family Proud

Family Proud is a care management platform that connects patients and families to a community and resources critical to their care, in a time of need. Our mission is to ensure no family need goes unmet. We help organizations provide a way to better support their families and empower their existing community. Family Proud provides a clear way to give and receive support from one another while also engaging with community initiatives.

The Family Proud care management platform is an easy-to-use, secure platform that allows families to communicate to their support network, receive support through our care registry, and communicate with others in similar situations through our peer network.  The platform provides a foundation for families to receive support, love and enhance care for their loved one.

Families do not see borders and we see Family Proud as a global opportunity to scale and support families and communities in need.

In the United States alone, 61 million citizens live with a disability and 6 in 10 adults suffer from cancer, Alzheimer’s Disease, and chronic diseases of the heart, respiratory system, and kidneys. These patients need continuous care and long-term treatments. This is a tremendous economic and social burden for patients and their families, the expected target users for the innovation. The annual cost for stage IV cancer can reach $210,000. Patients can be covered in part by private or public insurance, or it can be the patient’s full responsibility if he/she is one of the 26 million uninsured Americans. Their financial strain can be further aggravated by indirect costs such as lost wages, legal services, transportation to and from treatment, lodging near treatment facilities, childcare, and mental health services. 

By 2022, the Global Mobile Health Market is expected to reach $22.31 Billion with the U.S. holding the largest share, 35.1% or $7.83 Billion. The increased adoption of mobile health apps is driven by the fact that smartphone use is widespread in today’s society. Moreover, it is a cost-effective and convenient tool for patients, who are becoming more involved in personal care.

Family Proud connects people to community support through technology to pool people and resources.  Our app and web-based technology enables families to have a private and secure community, activate their support network and make receiving and providing support easy. The platform also provides organizations insight into what will best support families along with engagement and communication. Family Proud is built on Google Cloud.

The key functions are:

〉    A Social Wall that allows users to securely communicate with their loved ones to share thoughts give updates, and other information with their worldwide network or just their immediate family;

〉    A Care Calendar which gives patients a way to efficiently request direct support for any task, such as childcare, rides to appointments, and meal delivery;

〉    A Care Registry that allows patients to list needs for special clothing, equipment, transportation, housing for loved ones to visit, and so on;

〉    A Resource Page will be made available as a digital knowledge base where patients can find information about diseases, related treatments, and support options such as healthcare center facts, lists of associations or foundations targeting specific maladies, and so on.

6 in 10 adults suffer from cancer, Alzheimer’s Disease, and chronic diseases of the heart, respiratory system, and kidneys. 4 in 10 suffer from two or more chronic diseases, and 1 in 4 live with a disability that affects mobility, cognition, vision, hearing, independent living or self-care. These types of conditions require continuous care and treatment and can span several years. Other challenges include managing different medications prescribed from different doctors, multiple types of treatments, recurring follow-ups, high medical bills, and so on. This overwhelming effort can discourage patients’ recovery and healing. It is essential for patients to have an incentive to stay motivated and up-to-date with their treatment and health progress. Help from friends and family can be crucial, and result in more effective long-term benefits for patients. Informal caregivers are able to support patients with administrative or social support tasks.

We are meant to care. It is in our DNA as humans and Family Proud delivers empathy through technology and provides a way for us to connect to the community globally. Family Proud combats loneliness, stress, depression, and other mental health impacts of disease outbreaks by empowering existing communities a way to support one another, stay connected and be there during our toughest times. Our loved ones deserve more than a facebook group and a gofundme. By taking into account culture and community variables, Family Proud empowers communities by connecting you to those who truly understand.

We are currently supporting the U.S. Air Force Family Resiliency Team along with multiple patient/family support organizations such as the Down Syndrome Association. Family Proud is focused on coming alongside our partner organizations to best serve the families they support.

I believe Family Proud is truly innovative in that it will change the way we are able to support our loved ones and empower both families and organizations that serve them. By focusing on the family and community vs. clinical, we are able to indirectly drive health outcomes while ultimately being a bridge in wrap-around services between organizations, families and the community. Family Proud is a global opportunity because families do not see borders and it is important to recognize that health does not either. We are stronger together.

We currently serve 1500 families.

In one year our target is to be supporting 10K or greater families.

In five years it is our goal to be supporting over 1 Million families.

In line with UN SDG, Family Proud strongly supports the Health and Well-Being category. We measure our impact on the number of families we support and ultimately result in better overall health care and outcomes. This is tied to the strength of community, money saved, ability to receive support from a community around them.

Family Proud currently has 8 employees, 4 full time and 4 part time. 

Jaden Risner, CEO & Co-Founder 

Mr. Risner is a graduate of the Naval Academy, UCSD MBA, and was a Naval Aviator for over 12 years. Under his leadership, he helped hospitalized Navy Sailors expand their support networks while away from their families. The vision for Family Proud was strengthened after his own mother suffered a heart attack, and he was personally faced with the struggle of providing long distance care. 

Kris Triplett, CTO – Senior Software Engineer
Mr. Triplett is a United States Marine Corps Veteran. He has 10 years of experience using several core languages, frameworks, databases and full web stack technologies such as PHP, JavaScript, and CSS. Mr. Triplett has working experience with the full software development lifecycle and test-driven development. 

Trevor Prophet, Business Operations Lead – Program Manager, User Research
Stanford MBA & M.S., Naval Aviator and licensed Professional Engineer, with 14 years of experience in instructional and managerial roles. Mr. Prophet is dedicated to a “mission first, people always” principle. He is an expert in user research, design thinking, user-centered design (UCD) and prototype ideation for early stage ventures. 

Clay Treska, Strategy & User Research Lead, Healthcare
Healthcare Business Strategy and Technology Startup Business Leader specializing in strategic planning, joint ventures, strategic affiliations, with focuses in risk mitigation, margin generation, and programmatic expansion. As a former United States Marine Corps wounded warrior and two-time cancer survivor, strategic level healthcare delivery is not an occupation, it is his life. 

In order to be successful to build a diverse and equitable team, you must be intentional! As a military veteran, we are very mindful of our diverse team and thankful to be surrounded by humble and mission-focused individuals.
