Delouse Mums and Babies Project.
1.Problems we are solving: high maternal death in Kwara state of Nigeria
2.Solution proposed; Educating of community women on seeking medical care and not alternatives by conducting seminars.
3. Women as the greatest influencer of every home will play a key role to determine how resilient every family will be. For this reason, Delouse Mums and Babies hope to affect every family through our NGO - Delouse Rural and Urban women health initiative DRUWHI, that will raise the consciousness of every woman to their wellbeing.
Maternal death rate in this part of the world is alarming. According to WHO statistic 850 women died among 100,000 live birth in Nigeria.
While in the United Kingdom only 16 women died among 100,000 live birth.
It's worth noting, that in Kwara state of Nigeria, the figure is greater than 1000 Maternal death per 100,000 live births since quite numbers of women die during deliveries on daily basis.
Hence, it's our utmost desire to reduce this figure to one of the best in the world.
DRUWHI Delouse Rural and Urban Women's Health Initiative is an NGO arm of Delouse Mums and Babies, designed to raise the standard of community women to value their health and manage the well being of their various family.
We will be educating these women through the use of audio-visual medias.
A. We are targeting reproductive age women in Kwara state of Nigeria.
Kwara state, state of Harmony comprises of indigenous speakers of various dialects. For instance yoruba, nupe, baruten, fulani etc.
The rural and remote areas are scattered all over the state and there's no much development in those areas. Hence women in those places are low income class and illiterates. For this reason private hospitals are rare and most public health center lack well qualified staff.
Since Kwara state is our base and we have worked for 5yrs straight rendering Subsidized services among community women, we were able to identify the reason why the rate of death is extremely high mostly among those in rural areas. We discovered 75% of those women does not register in hospitals but choose other alternative that are readily available and affordable. For instance, traditional birth attendant and faith clinics.
However since the onset of our program we have gained quite some numbers. Our patients in every community has been fantastic and among them we already have some serving as our referrals.
We are equally working with village heads in building solutions to ensure sustainability of the project.
And on the other hand we have notified relevant government agencies to avoid disruption.
- Prevent the spread of misinformation and inspire individuals to protect themselves and their communities, including through information campaigns and behavioral nudges.
In lieu of securing health of the world, we can't neglect the underserved citizen who are the vulnerable and we have quite a number of them scattered around Nigeria.
We hope to solve this problem by targeting women as our main focus to positively influence homes hence building resilient communities.
However considering the fact we can successfully affect a large number of community women at once through proper information dissemination we have decided to be gathering them together for interactive session and we will aid their understanding through audio-visual medias.
- Growth: An organization with an established product, service, or business model rolled out in one or, ideally, several communities, which is poised for further growth.
Delouse Medical Center has been in operation for the past 5 years promoting safe motherhood among Kwara Central Women, and we are proposing to extend our services to the other senitorial districts areas, i.e Kwara North and Kwara South
- A new business model or process that relies on technology to be successful
Our health solutions is first of its kind in Kwara state of Nigeria. Prior to this time government agencies covers for the rural setting which has not been effective. Since most women do not patronize their hospitals.
However private hospitals are profit driven and do not usually consider the low income class in their target.
Most NGOs on the other hand usually choose a particular program on a particular disease and do not consider the overall wellness of the citizens.

We have currently served about 10,000 women and we hope to get funding to reach 30,000 women in the next 1yr and 160,000 women in the next 5 years.
Since our Short term goal is to sensitize Kwara state women on the dangers of patronizing non-medicals. Therefore the number of community women that are patronizing hospitals serve as indicator.
Our long term goal is to have communities with significantly reduced maternal death. Our major indicator is the number of maternal deaths reported to National censor and population where every death among community women in Kwara state is reported.
