Digital reachout
Data from the Nigerian bureau of statistics shows that Adult Illiteracy stands at 56%, while less than 15% of Nigeria own a PC. With a population of over 170 million in 36 states and 774 local government council. ICT trainings are limited to urban areas, some universities and expensive too excluding rural and sub-urban areas. Our solution is to digitally empower five thousand (5,000) citizens, local businesses owners and rural groups in 12months in sub-urban/rural areas. This will be achieved by setting up Two (2) world class Education digital hubs in 2 sub-urban/rural communities in Nigeria, providing trainings, high quality video lectures in English and local Nigerian languages, interactive learning resource that are relevant for current and future use and partnering with local government education(school) authorities, local women co-operative societies, adult literacy centres, CSOs in these communities and local youth leaders.
Our solution focus is to tackle the lack of knowledge of basic digital skills, opportunities and support prevalent in these communities. Lack of digital literacy is the biggest barrier to digital inclusion. Many citizens in sub-urban and rural areas do not know the benefits, opportunities and how to leverage digital tools for learning, business and social life. Some who know do not have the opportunity to learn. With Pandemic the need for digital inclusion in sub-urban and rural areas cannot be overemphasized. Only about 10% percent public school could continue learning online, most of the 90% were in sub-urban and rural communities. Even though Personal computer ownership is still low, mobile phone has enabled the promotion of digital inclusion but due to lack of digital literacy, most citizen did not know how to harness the digital economy wealth available locally and global platforms
Our solution is to setup 2 Digital hubs in 2 sub-urban/rural ares where citizens can have access to a Tech space or resources centre where the local citizens can have access to basic digital resource in the local language and basic IT support where their questions can be answered and guide given
It's targeting two sub-urban rural area, northeast Nigeria with too little or no entrance or access to digital literacy training or hub. Most population in this area are farmers, part-time farmers, teachers and local government workers. During the planting and harvesting season school children stop schooling while some do not go. Currently another community organisation doing literacy work which is slow. We have seen those willing to national exam , travel to urban area just to get registered. Our goal to to empower them with basic digital training on digital literacy, how to leverage technology tools and platforms to learn, improve their lives and join the digital economy.
- Equip everyone, regardless of age, gender, education, location, or ability, with culturally relevant digital literacy skills to enable participation in the digital economy.
Global trends shows the rise of more digitisation in all areas of life. Digital skill is required for almost every work of life including students. Most economic empowerment for women, youth opportunities are only available on digital platforms. 2 billion of population is unbanked, most of them in sub-urban and rural communities. Gaining Digital skills will empower our beneficiaries with more opportunities in the digital economy
- Prototype: A venture or organization building and testing its product, service, or business model.
We already began working with school and Girls coding in our STEM programmes. We realise that basic basic computer skills is lacking in these rural areas.
- A new business model or process that relies on technology to be successful
Our solution will focus on rural areas. Previous solution have focused on urban and semi-urban areas. Our solution we be one in the local language and English will provide audio visual learning aids, high quality learning videos, and interactive learning apps and software. Physical interaction will be minimal due to the pandemic.
Secondly we will work with active local groups, such as local government education(school) authorities, local women corporative societies, adult literacy centres, CSOs in these communities and local youth leaders
