Sun Books, an e-library of e-books, literacy activities and educational resources aimed to close the digital divide for remote classrooms

Sun Books provides localized digital (Rich) content to improve literacy, numeracy skills for children in isolated classrooms where there is no electricity and often either no or poor quality internet connection. Regardless of the drop out's and remoteness, the child can still access local and national books via a 10" tablet device and a solar panel. The solar panel charger provides electricity to operate the device. The pre-loaded software, of 600 e-books and 200 literacy activities are completely accessible regardless of internet black outs or low band width. Learning doesn't stop for these kids in remote and isolation schools and they can be connected to 21st century education technology. The tendril software is specific designed for "off the grid" locations yet is synced "what's up" via cell phone, using a book building software to create e-books using local language, audio, photo and illustration. Ensuring the education content is suitable/relevant.

We are working in 6 countries in Africa.

We have 3 full time staff in the field with 3 people in HQ.

We use 50 volunteers to help with the creation of e-books.

We are working with 500 tablets reaching 19,000 each year.
