Sofia
Transforming the way we collect, monitor, and measure patient's health.
The healthcare industry spends over $3 Trillion dollars a year on health care in the United States, accounting for 17.9% of the GDP. More health data is being recorded and analyzed than ever before, but we have no idea if people are getting healthier.
The Sofia platform uses natural language conversations to aid in patient care management, dosage, education, and track disease progression. We are building a new way of collecting patient reported outcomes by utilizing natural language processing and platforms that provide frictionless user interactions such as Alexa and mobile applications. We are looking at ways in which we can map unstructured conversation data into patient reported outcomes (PRO)-based performance measures for healthcare entities to use. By replacing the current method of static questionnaires, we can capture more objective descriptors of the patient more quickly and cheaply.

We are using natural language processing and new voice platforms as a tool to help doctors connect with their patients and collect more meaningful information to drive better results.
The focus in healthcare is shifting from fee for service to a value-based care system. Engaging with Sofia is a new way to collect unbiased patient-reported outcome measures in order to provide doctors with actionable information to prevent, diagnose, and help improve patient health.
Technology is at the forefront of our solution. We are leveraging machine learning, artificial intelligence, voice technology and the widespread use of Amazon Alexa to provide a rapid and scalable product.
Over the next 12 months we will work with our industry partners to test and validate our products.
In the short term, I hope to be working with pharmaceutical companies to facilitate more productive clinical trials. We are also able to work with physicians using the direct primary care model to facilitate communication, patient engagement, and education.

The patient population we want to serve in 12 months will be patients with dementia and Alzheimer's. We want to provide these patients who are active in clinical trials with an easier method to give unbiased feedback to increase the efficacy of the trial.
We will also target patients who are participating in the direct primary care model.

Combined the cofounders have expertise in both the healthcare industry and engineering fields. Riley served as an aero-medical evacuation technician in the USAF and is now at MIT Sloan. Jacob is a Cornell engineering graduate with a focus in computer science and a focus in NLP and ML.
Together, we are uniquely positioned to build and launch voice enabled applications to further research to improve and advance healthcare.
We plan to partner with healthcare systems and pharmaceutical companies to provide data and predictive analytic reports. Our daily conversations with patients will provide an insight into a patient’s health, treatments, chronic disease progression, and any concerns they might be experiencing. Sofia will also be able to deliver educational information to patients to keep them up-to-date on treatment information.
I’m applying to MIT Solve because the mission of the program is to help companies solve global challenges. Health care is a major problem in the U.S. as we are spending trillions of dollars and people still lack access to care, we are unsure if our solutions are actually making people healthie, and this current model is unsustainable
The key barrier we face is a heavily regulated industry. We are lacking access to our industry leaders who would be willing to approve and test pilot programs. Solve is perfectly aligned to connect us with industry experts.
