Aphya - The digital healthcare informatics hub
Channeling technology to facilitate engagement in healthcare, in resource constrained environments.
XELPHAhealth is a digital healthcare solutions company channeling technology to facilitate engagement with healthcare in resource constrained environments. Based in Nairobi, Kenya, we increase access to high quality healthcare and improve healthcare ecosystems for the world’s populations that need it most. We are motivated by the belief that quality healthcare should be accessible to all. Our digital solutions are a direct response to this truth.
Healthcare providers at our core, XELPHAhealth’s founders met at the junction of medicine and technology.
Through our work with patients in numerous resource-limited environments from South Sudan to Western Kenya all the way to the USA, we identified an underlying thread impacting the quality of healthcare being provided: information. The quality of decisions made in healthcare – whether by providers or by patients – is limited by the quality of information factored into those decisions. In resource-limited places there is a healthcare informatics gap, stemming from a lack of access, accuracy, completeness, efficacy, organization, and liquidity of information for both patients and providers, resulting is poor quality healthcare.
With the beliefs that healthcare should be accessible to all people globally irrespective of geography or economy, and that technology can be utilized as a bridge and force multiplier for the good of humanity, XELPHAhealth designs digital solutions to facilitate engagement with the metrics of a healthy life. Through the interlacing of connective technology, intelligent data, and value-based healthcare, XELPHAhealth is addressing the unique challenges of health in resource-limited environments, improving healthcare for the world's populations who need it most.
Aphya by XELPHAhealth is a digital healthcare hub, channeling technology to facilitate engagement with health in resource constrained environments and marginalized communities.
Seizing the existing opportunity of high connectivity in those environments via mobile phones and internet access, Aphya is a mobile-first solution that utilizes existing mediums and infrastructures to provide practical and sustainable improvements to healthcare in resource-constrained settings.
Comprised of unified provider and patient portals optimized for digital devices, Aphya makes quality healthcare accessible by facilitating real-time engagement between (1) patients and their health (2) patients with providers (3) providers within a healthcare organization. As a whole, our solution brings all of the systems that make up a healthcare organization together into a unified hub that is both simple and intuitive for organizations of any size and providers and patients in any setting - though designed specifically for those that are currently being undeserved.

Our solution is innovative in its optimization of healthcare organizations to improve healthcare in resource-constrained settings. It is (1) unified, bringing all the systems of a healthcare organization together into a universal hub (2) interoperable, seamlessly integrate into existing systems (3) customizable, built from robust modules (EMR & ERP) that can stand alone or combine into one unified clinic management system (4) intuitive, capturing and guiding workflow before, during, and after a patient’s visit (5) digitized, facilitating remote engagement to both patients and providers (6) supportive, providing decision-support tools using machine learning (7) extending cost savings with healthcare business intelligence.
All modules can be used collectively or individually using a single log in. The unified information and interoperable environment allows for simplified sharing of information, faster implementation, lower costs, and easier maintenance. We host the data in the secure GDPR compliant cloud which allows for scalability, portability and redundancy. We offer decision support in each module ranging from drug interactions and differential diagnosis to operational metrics. Machine learning is used to learn from anonymized data which symptoms and parameters lead to the highest indicators of diseases at early stages and most effective treatment for certain diseases.
We are currently running pilots of our solution throughout Kenya, redefining the interface to address potential barriers to entry, improve usability, and reduce training time. Over the next 12 months, our goal is to finish Alpha testing our product and launch our first beta version throughout the rest of East Africa and Indonesia as we continue listening to our users and improving functionality. We are actively working to build community within in around our solution, from the culture of our core team to relationships with meaningful partners.
Over the next 3 to 5 years we hope to have our platform deployed in 80% of the global south (South east Asia, Africa and Latin America), with multiple applications built on top of it. We hope to have the largest virtual hospital in the world by volume, connection Clinicians to Patients and both to health care organizations. With our analytics engine fully mature developing high quality, personalized treatment algorithms improving healthcare outcomes while reducing cost of service delivery.

Our platform agnostic solution will be distributed through the open web and various app-stores. We plan to reach customers through various marketing and advertising solutions - including thought leadership, content marketing, and messenger apps - customized for the targeted markets and populations we will be addressing. We intend to gain critical mass by first providing value to hospitals and clinic chains with our provider portal and Electronic Health Record (EHR). We will then bring patients on board by offering them value with our patient portal and Personal Health Record (PHR).
Still in the very early stages, we are currently running pilots in a 50 bed hospital in Western Kenya and a chain of clinics in the Rift Valley Region which see about 40 - 60 patients a day. We are providing these organizations with Digital Health Records for Clinics, Labs, Pharmacies and Healthcare ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning).
In the Next 12 months we expect to be serving around 500,000 (conservatively) patients per month on our Digital health Record across all our facilities. We hope to expand to 10 million unique patients a month in 3 years with a more global reach covering the most marginalized regions of the global south (Latin America, Middle East, Africa and Southeast Asia).

The more value we can provide to our customers, the more positive impact we can make on global health with our solution. As such, we are a Software as a Service (SaaS) business model. By using a monthly subscription as our revenue source we effectively lower the upfront costs of our solution to our customers, in addition to the return on investment that our solution provides toward healthcare business management and operations. We are also a multisided platform with institutions, devices, and pharmaceutical companies able to leverage our relationships with hospitals and clinics. This further subsidizes the cost of service delivery to the person we are ultimately serving: the patient.
In order to gain relationships, with potential partners such as governments, healthcare organizations, non-profits, Research institutions and the private sector. Our solution has the potential to bridge the information gap that are ailing these organizations and SOLVE would provide us with the platform to show our capabilities. The partners that we gain through solve might be potential customers or investors that could further our reach and benefit from our solution.
Some of the key barriers of our solution to succeed include obtaining strategic partnerships and exposure in future markets to establish further credibility. One of the hurdles there is creating and sustaining market awareness. Solve can help us showcase our solution to potential partners, mentors and champions of our mission. With mentorship and funding we can better adapt our solution to our various target markets and better serve those populations.
