Developers in Vogue
‘’Covid-19 has accelerated the rate of digital technology adoption around the world, but also revealed the depth of the digital divide worldwide. For millions of people living in Africa, who do not have access to the internet or laptops and smartphones, the pandemic has resulted in greater social and economic isolation.
The pandemic, with its lockdowns and restrictions, has hit Africans hard, leading to job losses, food insecurity, entrenched poverty and – perhaps most worryingly – major setbacks in education delivery.”-African news.
Our vision is to bridge the digital gender divide in Ghana and beyond. We train women in the latest technologies using practical and project-oriented curriculum, connect them to real life projects and jobs, enabling them to apply the skills acquired to earn an income. We create a community of amazing women in tech who encourage and support each other.
The developed world has, over the past two decades, been transformed by what are now termed information and communication technologies (ICTs). These technologies exert great impact on most aspects of our lives—in economic activities, education, entertainment, communication, travel, and so on. Also, they have inextricably linked with economic prosperity and power. At present, Africa is at the bottom of the ICT ladder. This has serious implications both for the continent and the entire world.
There have been actions taken to reduce the digital gap in Africa, however, the female populace is being left behind. A recent research and publication by GIZ concluded that Women hold just 24 percent of all jobs in the ICT industry around the world. Over 250 million fewer women than men are online today, even though digitization offers great potential for the political, economic and social participation of women and girls. However, women-especially in developing countries often lack the necessary digital skills, which are an important key to participation in the digital world and a prerequisite for access to many jobs.
Our solution is hinged on providing training in the latest technology using practical and project-oriented- curriculum for women aged 18-35. After training women are connected to real life projects and opportunities through our internship and job placements program to earn for themselves.
Our trainings are organized in the form of monthly bootcamp at our training center also known as the DIV center in Accra. We have certified and qualified tutors who take the women through courses such as data science and analytics, web and app development, digital marketing, graphic design and AI.
We provide a community where the women feel a sense of belonging and continue to contribute to the betterment of their society through projects after training through our outreach programs.
A call for applications is sent every month to onboard new trainees at subsidized fee.
Our solution is for unemployed women aged 18-35 who want to start a career in tech.
- Equip everyone, regardless of age, gender, education, location, or ability, with culturally relevant digital literacy skills to enable participation in the digital economy.
Digital and internet technology is invading Africa, and it has the potential to open many doors for women, assisting them in overcoming existing barriers on a variety of gender equality metrics.
In line with the digital inclusion challenge, developers in Vogue prioritize providing training in the latest technology, developing women-friendly products to accelerate digital inclusion, and spreading the use of digital to increase financial inclusion and empower female entrepreneurs.
- Growth: An organization with an established product, service, or business model rolled out in one or, ideally, several communities, which is poised for further growth.
Our service is in the growth stage. Our services are mostly targeted at women graduates of the various tertiary institutions who are interested in starting a career in tech. As part of our efforts to reduce graduate unemployment in Ghana, we mostly prioritize young women without employment. We offer both onsite and online classes in order to accommodate every ones need.
