WISP Talk Africa
Our WISP Directory will host an up to date list of internet service provider in Africa allowing broadband internet seekers the opportunity search and research the providers within a realistic radius so as to help them make informed decisions on which provider to commit to.
WISP Academy is an exciting way to study, the tool is designed with an aim to help Africans build a structured career in the tech industry.
Internet penetration in Africa is currently the lowest in the world at 30% especially when measured against a growing population of over 1.2 billion and with majority of the 30% only able to use the internet via mobile data on phones.
Majority of the continents inhabitants either don't know they could have broadband internet delivered directly to their homes or businesses and at a cost that is affordable so WTA is making the right information available for public consumption.
Our WISP Directory will host an up to date list of internet service providers in Africa and visitors to our platform can simply go to the directory, enter their location and view all service providers within within a defined radius and then click on each provider to compare services, charges/fees and any other information we or the providers add. Our active partnership with internet service providers also means we will give partners some level of access to the tools backend to enable them independently add new sites as well as new information they want displayed for their potential customers to see.
Our WISP Academy will help young Africans build a structured career.
Although we will serve the entire internet population as well as those yet to get on the internet due to problems around access, we have divided our customers into 3 groups, 1. Internet Service Providers, 2. Internet Users and 3. Everyone working in the internet provision industry.
For the first group, our tool serves as the perfect means of reaching thousands of potential new customers as they will be able to make their services visible to more people.
The directory solves a key problem for the second group as it puts the power of informed choice squarely in their hands allowing them make data based decisions as regards which internet provider they pick as well as the kind of service that suites their needs.
WISP Talk Africa platform will also be a melting pot for professionals in the industry looking to network for several reasons including opportunities and this will serve the 3rd group perfectly.
- Provide low-income, remote, and refugee communities access to digital infrastructure and safe, affordable internet.
Increasing internet penetration in Africa is our primary goal and our program involves partnering with businesses that provide broadband/fibre/wireless internet as well as partnering with government and NGO's on all levels. We will also focus on data collection as we intend to produce research that will drive the achievement of our goals.
Access to internet improves lives in so many ways and WTA intends to put a dent on the poverty level in Africa by providing a means to getting access. Our population and location based surveys and subsequent researches will help Internet providers decide profitable locations.
- Pilot: An organization deploying a tested product, service, or business model in at least one community.
After over a year of planning and months of building v1 of the directory, we needed to test the tools effectiveness as well as our data collection process so we picked locations based on the location partners cover. For example Legend Internet provides fibre internet and the covers a section of Abuja and Fiam Wifi covers a section of Lagos so our coverage depends on the availability of data provided by partner operators.
- A new business model or process that relies on technology to be successful
Our solution aims to significantly impact the internet provision market by giving the general public a means to view available broadband providers while at the same time making broadband internet providers visible to millions of potential customers. Our solution also looks to equip young entrepreneurs with the technical skillset they'd require to start their own WISP in their respective communities and provide them with the necessary partnership they might require by connecting them with partners we pickup as we grow.
