McCormack Innovation's Dissovable Stool Collection Device
Assisting the early detection of bowel cancer
According to the Department of Health Statistics, bowel cancer is the second highest cause of cancer deaths in the UK, with approximately 16,000 fatalities and 40,000 new cases diagnosed each year. The American Cancer Society estimates 140,000 new cases of colon/bowel cancer and 53,000 deaths for the year 2016.
With early detection nine out of ten lives can be saved but at this time. With present screening programmes, detection rates are determined by the low return rates.
MI identified that the main reason for these low returns is the non-existent method of stool sample collection.
To this end, MI embarked upon the development of a stool collection device. The resultant product is a totally unique device, the safety and convenience of which will immediately raise return rates and reduce hospital infections, saving lives worldwide.
- Effective and affordable healthcare services
McCormack Innovation’s ‘Unique Selling Point’ is the exclusive properties of our soluble material and its patented technologyand design.
The FlushAway™ Stool Collector is a soluble, paper-based device that, when place in a toilet, is robust enough to retain stool for taking test samples at home or in hospitals.
With third party test certification of testing to the relevant ASTM standards, the device, after use, can be safely and simply flushed away. And unlike current practices, with no harm to the environment.
We have a registered trademark and are patent proteced in the UK, US, Europe, Australia and South Africa.
With Smartsolve Industries of Ohio, who are exclusive supplier of our feedstock material and manufactures of the finished product, we have an experienced and secure supply chain.
With their assistance we have completed designs and successfully prototyped the conversion process of our stool collection and bed pan liners which are now ready for full production.
Our first sale in South Africa is imminent. Dischem have placed an order for 50,000 units with The BioLab with whom we have a Supplier Distribution agreement. This year our goal with The BioLab is for another 100,000 units, including an order with Mediclinic, South Africa.
In August we have another sale of c. 12,000 units with Gufeeling AB of Sweden.
In this first year we hope to achieve our goal for turnover of c. £350,000. But with only a small profit.
Based on our ability to hire a medical business development person – we believe we will convert more enquires to sales.
With many enquiries in, some for very significant orders, not least Lab Corp, USA we forecast a turnover of £1,000,000 in Year 2. With a profit of over £50,000..
In Year 3, assuming that our very unique product will only capture a very small percentage of the global market for diagnostics and bowel screening, we estimate our turnover to be over the £1,800,000 mark with profits of over £200,000.

Essential to reaching and retaining our customers are:
• The correct website, PR and
marketing so that our product’s existence is known.
• Increased medical
distributors worldwide (we have 10 positive lines of enquiry)
• B2B sales directly to
pharmacies and private entities
• We aim to be a stand-alone
provider on the NHS Supply Chain and to become a intergral product for the
Bowel Screening Programme
• Increase of product lines
such as FlushAway™ Wound Dressing and FlushAway™ Cannula Dressing, which are
already in development and have had substantial interest from all potential
distributors and healthcare representatives.
Without a first sale the only people we have served are those to whom we given samples of our stool collector device - a few hundred. With our sale to The BioLab we will be serving up to 50,000 people who will be using our Stool Collection Device to assist themselves in taking stool samples for faecal testing.
With our sale to The BioLab we will be serving up to 50,000 people who will be using our Stool Collection Device to assist themselves in taking stool samples for faecal testing.
Within the next 12 months, we hope to be serving over 200,000 people by sales and use of our single use and disposable device.
In three years time at quite conservative market penetration we envisage serving up to 1,000,000 people/pateients with and stool collector and bed pan liners.

Our current team have had the required skills to take these products to market and our designs/concepts to a fairly large and appreciative audience. With our manufacturers, Smartsolve, we have the means not only to produce but also the skills and support for product development, marketing and purchasing.
With University of Dundee and Heriot Watt University, Edinburgh we have excellent R and D support.
With our IP for Wound Dressings and other soluble products including, Wet Wipes, Cotton Buds and Sanitary products, there is a wealth of opportunities but for the next three year the main revenue streams are seen to come from our production ready, Stool Collectors and Bed Pan Liners.
For only our Stool Collectors in hospitals in the UK and our plans for online sales and availability in pharmacies our Business Growth Potential has been estimated as follows;

From a Solve employee we were honoured to be invited to apply. Already we have this event noted on our website.
With their high profile status and of course any funding if successful, Solve can advance our work by raising the awareness of our solutions, for which the problems are often not appreciated or even apparent.
The largest barrier to our solution is the fact that people do not appreciate that their is a problem let alone a solution.
Solve can help by raising awareness of the problems with promotion and support of the solutions
