Life Above All
State of the art NICU Vans, providing reliable care to infants and mothers in areas lacking access to health resources.
Imagine your hope of new beginnings, and happiness torn by fate's hand by the death of your beloved infant. Well, that's a living reality for most people who live in countries ravaged by poverty and civil war. Introducing Life Above All, a systematic way of ensuring the safe progression of birth conceptions, intensive care for infants and mothers after birth. Through the implementation of NICU setting in vans, containing equipment like cardio-respiratory monitor, MRI, blood pressure monitor. From the input of health professionals we are creating a unique and environmentally safe procedure for mothers to give birth in hopes of decreasing Infant mortality by more than 30 percent. By targeting one community at a time Life Above All will bring solidarity to many Individuals who live in rural areas.
Our solution is to create a safe net where mothers could give birth in the shape of eco-friendly vans that incorporates all the regular equipment of an NICU. Due to reasons like lack of health resources, and service disparities Infants in these kinds of area are more prone to being infected with a deadly disease, and not make it to the age of 5. Thus proving the crucial need for NICU vans, solely because premature or sick babies can be sensitive to the environment around them, so the NICU van provides secure, stabilized incubators that are designed to reduce noise and light levels. And a great team of health professionals who vigilantly care for the infants.
According to the World Health Organization, “in Somalia infant mortality rate was estimated at 132 per 1,000 live births in 1999, with the rate of under-five mortality at 224 in Somalia, and confirms that 80% of deliveries occur at home in all regions of Somalia.” In all commonality this infant mortality is positively associated with deliveries conducted at home which is most unsanitary and families do not have the right resources to conduct such an operation. If successfully launched our solution will grant families in Somalia and other rural areas with the best environment to give birth and care for infants. After their care in the NICU vans mothers could be educated on how they can maintain their health and their infants through raspberry pi powered devices like computer or tablets that are energy efficient . Our solution is centered around providing service to families in rural areas, but also we will establish city wide networks to affect more people and make a change.
As immigrants that heralded from LDC countries lacking basic health care, we are truly driven to help those who fall along the same spectrum. From a diverse cultural backgrounds and perspectives we have accumulated the passion for impacting our world for the greater good. And as current high school students in the city of Boston we are empowered by MIT Solve great contribution to our world for bringing together different solutions to the world's most pressing issues.
