In the context of mainstream media, significant stigma remains associated with the portrayal of various acts and aspects of human sexuality. This genre of media is often referred to as “pornography”, “erotica”, “erotic romance”, or “adult entertainment”. In this context, we will use all these term interchangeably. It should be noted, however, that semantics themselves can affect perception. This stigma seems counterintuitive, given that this genre of media is nearly ubiquitous in nature, and it generates billions of dollars in global revenue annually. The stigma, and the resulting consequences, are perpetuated by a multitude of factors. Specifically, a paucity of research, varied cultural, religious, and social constructs, and a lack of quality education on topics related to sexual and reproductive health, lead to a poor understanding of “cause and effect” models. Ultimately, negative perceptions and stigma limit industry growth, place a ceiling on revenues, damage interpersonal relationships, and serve as the nidus for adverse mental and physical health outcomes.

The technology relies on the foundational principles borrowed from the fields of behavioural psychology, neurology, education, music theory, linguistics, and the biological, chemical, and physical sciences. It was developed with careful consideration of the following: word choice, parts of speech, patterns of speech, articulation, tone, tempo or rate of speech, breathing patterns, facial expressions, and body language. Environmental factors were also carefully considered during development, with specific criteria being established to further enhance the imagery. Proprietary methods are used to create, capture, record, and distribute the final product.
