Cantex corporation
Agriculture is one of the major sectors in Pakistan’s economy. Based on modern economic trends, the induction of sustainability, recyclability and value addition processes are core idea features to utilize and enhance full scale potential of this sector.
Cantex is an initiative inspired from the core concept of cradle to cradle and circular economy. Using sugarcane as the main raw material, th startup proposed manufacturing of non-centrifugal sugar (Gur) and bagasse as by-product which will be utilized to make pulp and finally convert it into packaging. The proposed project has potential to utilize Industrial hemp, cotton waste, recycled paper and other agriculture residues as fibrous source of cellulose to create value added products.
Our purpose is to provide a solution in the war against plastic using the recyclable materials. This proposal deals with green, sustainable, recyclable and a low-cost alternative using Bagasse fibers which are abundantly available in the region
Plastic pollution is wreaking havoc on our planet, and single-use plastic bags are one of the most significant contributors, Nowadays, by rapid economic development and population growth the demand for paper also increased in the world. More demand on paper needs more harvesting of woody materials. Unsustainable harvesting of wood can cause deforestation, climate change, etc. Many researches are endorsing one type of environment friendly alternative bag as the most sustainable option, typically the PP Green Bag, paper bag or biodegradable plastic bag. Similarly, there is a standard developed by ISO (EN 13432) specifically for packaging, which assesses packaging composability based on characterization, biodegradation, disintegration, and quality of compost or ecotoxicity. A novel packaging material with zero or minimum carbon foot prints, greener impact on environment, sustainable and recyclable with lower cost than the existing material is the need of the day.
With the rapid growth of fast food industry, fast food has brought not only a great convenience to the people with a fast pace of life but also a severe pollution to the nature from overusing Styrofoam & Single-use plastic tableware. Environmental pulp molding tableware has a great market and future in replacing disposable Styrofoam tableware's.
Researchers from all around the globe are working hard to come up with the suitable alternatives of plastic packaging. Paper based packages are so far the most suitable as a substitute to single use plastic. However, paper produced using virgin conventional materials like wood chops is in high demands, which may lead to adverse environmental effects like deforestation having direct impacts on global warming and climate change. Other plant-based materials like seasonal crops, fibrous plants, bast fibers etc. can provide an alternative to the wood chop-based paper. It is estimated that producing one metric ton of paper from non-virgin materials such as bagasse, kenaf and bamboo can save 17 trees,3.3 cubic meter of landfill space, 360 Liter of water, 100 Liter of gasoline, 60 pounds of air pollutants, 10401 kilowatts of electricity.
Bagasse is the by-product of the sugar industry and is also one kind of papermaking fiber material. As the foundation of paper and pulp industry, Sugarcane bagasse belongs to the straw fiber, is easy to cook or bleach and requires fewer chemicals consumption. which decide the bagasse pulp process or equipment is more mature and easier. It can serve as an environmentally friendly material for paper packages.
Imagine a world in which all the things we make, use, and consume provide nutrition for nature and industry—a world in which growth is good and human activity generates a delightful, restorative ecological footprint.
Our purpose is to provide a solution in the war against plastic using the recyclable materials. Our achievements are less but the impact is very high in the form of a cleaner and greener environment. We are providing a low-cost, sustainable, recyclable and biodegradable packages as an alternative to people addicted to the single use plastics for packaging. Not only the plastic but the use of bagasse and other recycled cellulosic materials reduce burden on wood chop-based paper industry which will indirectly reduce de-forestation contributing positively to the environment and climate.
The availability of and cost competitiveness of raw material are some important factors for supporting the growth in paper-based consumer bags market. Our targeted customer are the consumers of single use plastic bags who are finding alternatives after the ban on the plastic use which is not only national issue but gaining popularity worldwide. So the targeted customers are not only national users but also the international customers particularly the third world countries
- Other
The proposed project is inspired from nature to nature concept. A product created by nature (sugarcane) and absorbed by nature (biodegradable plastic). We are striving for a universal cause of saving environment by using green with a green process for a green product. The anticipated imprint of circular economy could provide new opportunities for economic diversification, value-creation and skills development.
- Prototype: A venture or organization building and testing its product, service, or business model.
We are working on our lean start up project from October 2020, where we are striving to achieve a minimum viable product (MVP) at commercial level. we have successfully done at laboratory level in Pakistan. The commercial and economic viability is vital for project success.
Project Products
1. Non-centrifugal sugar (Gur) (Completed)
2. Packaging (Implementation Phase)
3. Composite Materials (Conceptual Phase)
4. Nonwoven Materials (Conceptual Phase)
- A new business model or process that relies on technology to be successful
Pakistan Paper industry is completely dependent on hardwood to produce pulp. we are exploring new raw material sources such as agriculture residues (bagasse, wheat straws, rice husk), recycle paper, textile industry waste, recycle fabric and industrial hemp as fibrous source of cellulose to make cheap, biodegradable, sustainable, recyclable and compostable pulp.
The wet-laid methodology used for paper Industry will also be adopted to fully explore the Wet-laid non-woven market potential in Pakistan.
The extracted cellulose from alternate sources has promising future market in Textile composite materials.

Organic Gur is our first Product having an huge local demand and export potential to Afghanistan. We Crushed 350 Ton of Sugarcane which Produced an average 27 Ton of Gur and 28 Ton of by-Product bagasse. The Bagasse product is in implementation phase of the project to convert into a prototype packaging material.
Affordable and clean energy
Investing in solar, wind and thermal power, improving energy productivity, and ensuring energy for all is vital if we are to achieve SDG 7 by 2030.
Industry, innovation and infrastructure
Technological progress is also key to finding lasting solutions to both economic and environmental challenges, such as providing new jobs and promoting energy efficiency. Promoting sustainable industries, and investing in scientific research and innovation, are all important ways to facilitate sustainable development.
Responsible consumption and production
he efficient management of our shared natural resources, and the way we dispose of toxic waste and pollutants, are important targets to achieve this goal. Encouraging industries, businesses and consumers to recycle and reduce waste is equally important, as is supporting developing countries to move towards more sustainable patterns of consumption by 2030.
