Helping That Helps (HTH 2021)
There are students who cannot afford to own or have a smart phone to access other learning resources and information. Their inaccessibility is due to their situation or condition. They are either being marginalized and disadvantaged, or affected because of the pandemic Covid-19 having effect upon their low incoming working parents.
Their learning and having accessibility to such gadget will contribute towards their long term learning and development. As much as possible; initiating program where such student can be helped is very important. The Pitch Solution program of the 'Helping That Helps' will pave through to help such genuine students who deserve such services. The solution itself will involve two situation of having a center and set up or having students access to own a mobile phone.
Across developing island countries, there is a need to do more to help fellow student citizens.
Struggling marginalized and disadvantaged students youths and students citizens having inaccessibility to smart phones gadget for learning and skills development is something very sad to look into. The problem affects good number of such category of students here in the country of Papua New Guinea.
Factors contributing to this problem is low wage earning parents below the minimum low wages earning requirement and Covid-19 pandemic. Number of such students are in dire need to step up or cope up with the changes going on. Are students all over
Assisting marginalized and disadvantaged students youths and students citizens to have access and be part of digitalized learning is the solution towards achievement to this program 'Helping That Helps'.
It is not just issuing or giving out smart phones to every students, no. Genuine and desperate students in this category will be identified. Identification process or protocol is already in place and there will not be any mishaps to that.
The program will involve Secondary School students and Vocational Training skills schools students.
The targeted population for this Solution would mainly teenager and young adult attending Vocational Training Centre and Secondary schools. Again, this will involve genuine marginalized and disadvantaged student youths and students' citizens. These category of students would be already identified and assisting them to have access or accessing a gadget of smart phone will not be a problem. They are truly underserved and disadvantaged because of their situation and condition in the family chain line. They do need to have access to accessing digital training via computer network or otherwise from the smart mobile phone. This solution through 'Helping That Helps' program will empower some future genuine professionals who would learn as much as possible through this concept program to excel through.
- Provide low-income, remote, and refugee communities access to digital infrastructure and safe, affordable internet.
Change is bound to happen and bound to change is part of thriving in whatever circumstance and situation. The program of 'Helping That Helps' will adjust to any change and accept change to adjust to serve the best interest of clients of this program who will be benefited.
Accessing digital learning has its processes and inputs to be considered until final quality workplan shown through outcome or achievement is achieved. Whatever, the simple start off would be assisting disadvantaged or marginalized student youths and student citizens to have access to a smart mobile phone.
- Concept: An idea being explored for its feasibility to build a product, service, or business model based on that idea.
The development stage selected suits the idea and this program. Such program to give out any electrical gadget has never happen in any communities. Though there are times where business houses and companies do carry out product promotion and other market promotion which then result in giving one or two of such electrical gadget out to the public. Since it is a program service be tried out; the stage of development selected is inline and accurate to the approach of its roll-out.
- A new business model or process that relies on technology to be successful
Looking at the Solution itself. The approach is simple and mainly in main section to provide service or help. Though it is simple but the impact this solution provides will develop other system or program to help humanity in the digital inclusive move.

- Papua New Guinea
It is estimated that that there are 30 - 35 students coming from a marginalized and disadvantaged communities in 20 provinces of Papua New Guinea. There can be 3-4 such marginalized and disadvantaged communities in respective Local Level Government in Papua New Guinea. There are 265 rural LLGs and out of that 65 will be branded marginalized and disadvantaged. 30 x 3 x 65 x 20 = 117 000. That figure is for all over Papua New Guinea.
In Goroka where I will start this program solution; 30 x 4 x 4 (schools) = 480.
480 will be my figure to start off with.
Some indicators I can relate to see the progress and the goals will be; students excel in learning. Students progress into another stage of their education career. Student girls making right decision for their future. Students citizens who can make sustainable living with whatever they have. This simple solution will sound many other greater impact and pathway for living to these marginalized and disadvantaged student youths and student citizens.
- Nonprofit
There are 8 full-time staffs and 5 part-time staffs attached to this organization.
It is a community based Non-government organization.
Basically, our team consists of different people who are attached in various public sector workforce. We do have health worker, teacher, student, local subsistence farmer, and pastor.
To our understanding, we've come to see the need and that's where this Community Based Organization was established to take lead in address and putting up solution program.
Considering our organization; it is a women's organization where men are to work cooperatively with women counterpart to achieve the outcome of every program.
For the start it was women who took lead and initiate this program to serve marginalized and disadvantaged women and youths.
- Individual consumers or stakeholders (B2C)
Financial barrier is the only thing for my solution program. With the start money of $15 000, this can make big difference and cause break-through for this program.
- Business model (e.g. product-market fit, strategy & development)
- Financial (e.g. improving accounting practices, pitching to investors)
- Public Relations (e.g. branding/marketing strategy, social and global media)
- Monitoring & Evaluation (e.g. collecting/using data, measuring impact)
- Technology (e.g. software or hardware, web development/design, data analysis, etc.)
This Solution program of mine is just an idea. Though its an idea but the application part of it is very crucial because of the service provide to these marginalized and disadvantaged students in the marginalized and disadvantaged communities. First and for most, funding will be the priority and after funding, public relations, Monitoring and Evaluation, Technology and Business Model. It is start for the roll-out of the program that will determine every other activities, program and partners.
I would prefer partnering with any available organizations who sees the genuine need to help along with what I am into as part of Solution to serve these disadvantaged and marginalized students youths and students citizens.
It will be more effective to have MIT faculty or initiatives to partner with.

Looking at this GSR Prize, I would figure it as in one way or the other it suits my Solution approach program or activity. Empowering local communities with support assistance of gadget device for the learning of students where some of these students will be girls and ladies. Girls and woman are now encouraged to take-up Stem learning and studies. Basic start is having access. This is where my Solution is part of; giving access. My team will use the GSR Prize to improve other areas that can cause bit of hindrance to the effective progress of the Solution program.
