MInsure
This is an insurance scheme that funds women to attend antenatal and postnatal clinics reducing maternal mortality.
Nigeria contributes about 10% of the world's burden of maternal mortality. In my little interaction with patients in the Jos University Teaching Hospital, most women either never book for antenatal care, or book late into the pregnancy all because of lack of funds. Unfortunately, many triggers of factors that are responsible for maternal mortality are better detected at the earlier stages of pregnancy. Our idea has to do with getting funds for women all over the state to cater for their antenatal care. We partner with telecommunication companies, who deduct N1 from each airtime recharge per day per line, and siphon these funds to various primary health care centers, where these women are registered and cared for throughout pregnancy and delivery. The role of the State government and the ministry of health in the success of this cannot be overemphasized, because there is need for strict rules, regulations and monitoring of the project.
- Effective and affordable healthcare services
It is a new idea. Available isurance schemes are either not sustainable, or target particular people. Our solution targets pregnant women and is very sustainable. It aims to reduce maternal mortality effectively by tackling the roots.
The telecommunication companies use sophisticated technologies to deduct these funds. Also, the funds are digital, meaning we would work with a digital platform.
We would launch our pilot project in Plateau State. We would build a platform for registering pregnant women and a platform for channelling of the funds we acquire. Also, we will provide health tips for the women.
We plan to go national, first by introducing our concept to nearby states after the success of ours, then by actually implementing. This would then go international, and th overall burden of maternal mortality would be significantly reduced.

We target the primary health care centres, which are at the heart of the communities. We don't invite the people to our solution. We follow them to their homes and get them know about it and appreciate it. We will train people state wide and nation wide to get to the roots. Talk to them. Educate them.
So far, we are still at the idea stage. But we won a hackathon of recent, and we were encouraged especially by the feasibility and sustainability of our ideas.
In Plateau State, there are about 50,000 deliveries per year. When we flag our pilot project, we hope to cater for all these deliveries, following our business plans. We will provide the funds needed to take care of them, from pregnancy to childbirth. This number is expected to triple in 3 years time. We would also expand to accommodate child health too.

I am a medical student in training and my colleague is a pharmacist. We both are tech savvy and have some experience in the hospital setting. We do awesomely with team work.
About 50,000 deliveries per year
N20,000 antenatal, delivery and postnatal care
Revenue Collection Model
3 million telecom users x N1/day
N1,095,000,000/year
Expenditure
50,000 deliveries = N1,000,000,000
3% contribution to the telecom companies = N32,850,000
Company Revenue
Profit (5%/year) = N54,750,000
Realised amount = N7,400,000
