motherband
Taming of fetal stillbirths and maternal complications during antenatal period and during birth process.
we have 96 babies born dead everyday in Kenya,23 of them being stillbirths, over 7000 babies are born dead in Africa everyday and over 2.6 million babies are born dead globally annually, this is according to WHO 2015, this is due to lack of machines to monitor mothers during antenatal period and during delivery or the available machines are very expensive for hospitals to purchase.I personally am a midwife at the largest maternity hospital in East Africa with more than 150 births everyday whereby we only have one machine which monitors only less than 20 mothers daily that reflects the scarcity of the machines in the facilities that's why i decided to come up with a machine which will monitor both maternal contractions and fetal heart rate simultaneously and up to 10 mothers are monitored at once and all the results of the ten mothers are displayed on one screen during delivery and cheaper than our competitors and also i have home use device whereby a mother can monitor her baby at home using her smartphone

our innovation is a new application of an existing technology in that the current machines monitor 1 mother after every 30 minutes and ours monitor ten mothers at once and also a new technology of monitoring the baby at home using a smartphone.
In the hospital model setup through technology were able to consolidate all the results of the mothers and display them on one screen, these apply s that only one midwife is able to monitor 10 mothers alone at a time especially in Kenya where we have less staffing in our hospitals.
In our individual model a mother can monitor her baby at home without necessarily going to the hospital using her phone.
we are focusing on reducing fetal still births and maternal complications by 30% in the next 12 months .
were focusing on reducing the number of stillbirths and maternal complications to mothers especially those in remote areas and also mothers who earn less than a dollar a day by 50% a cross East Africa in the next three years, because those are the mothers who seek maternity services in public hospitals which are not able to afford the equipments.
