Prevent Prior
Technology and data go hand-in-hand in disease prevention. The Prevent Prior website database tracks medical annals on pandemics, epidemics, viruses, disease etc while monitoring real world data in order to analyze and compare potential outbreaks and warn cities, governments, and countries before it's too late.
Emma Ding is currently a grade 10 student at Port Moody Secondary School. She hopes to pursue medicine and change the world for the better.
- Identify (Determine & limit the disease risk pool & spill over risk), such as: Genomic data to predict emerging risk, Early warning through ecological, behavioural & other data, Intervention/Incentives to reduce risk for emergency & spill over
Countries are almost never prepared for outbreaks. Time and time again history repeats itself, such as Covid-19 currently. Governments and healthcare systems need a way to receive possible warning signs in order to act quicker to protect their citizens. Governments also require assistance in dealing with the outbreak should one occur, like what Personal Protective Equipment to use, suggested mandates to reinforce and ow to actively respond to the issue at hand. Governments and healthcare systems should receive real-time data about outbreaks to thoughtfully deal with the situation. Currently governments require extended periods of time to access outbreak data, analyze for possible geographical outbreak hotspots, and craft a series of preventative measures to lessen further spread.
The target audience for this solution are Governments and healthcare leaders. Prevent Prior will provide data based suggestions how to better respond to an outbreak. Governments and healthcare professionals can also add new data via a suggestions section on the website to improve the website and expand possibilities in outbreak identification.

Out solution will prevent or decrease the size of future outbreaks, protecting society at large and preventing governments from making rash decisions or falling into economic peril due to outbreaks. Our solution will also provide public good via data given to healthcare and governments to help predict outbreaks so they are in better positions to create solutions to plan ahead for how to deal with the initial case and how to prevent further spread of the outbreak. Our website also provides data and geographical demonstration about outbreak size in order for the general public to understand outbreaks better.
Our solution will impact governments and healthcare workers make decisions to prevent possible outbreaks or restrain initial cases from further spread. Via assisting our front line workers in the medical field (nurses and doctors) we ease stress from possible future outbreaks and create time for hospitals to prepare and avoid over-capacitated ICU's leading to unnecessary patient loss.
We hope to expand our website worldwide and reach out to governments and healthcare professionals to create a larger user database. We also hope to connect with organizations such as the CDC or WHO to create a stronger database and analytics foundation platform.
We will measure success via how many outbreaks our system can detect and prevent within the shortest amount of time, and how quickly we are able to alert government and healthcare professionals to prevent outbreaks.
