Electronic Booklet
Laying the foundation of good health is a better you today
Lesotho is faced with poor health services as there are a number of ineffective coordination of care and poor community services and treatment. This comes as a result of poor medical history of patients and inconsistent records about patients. Medical practitioners use paper medical booklets where they record little of the medical information of patients and this does not give full details of what the patients has and what measures are taken to treat that disease. These booklets are easily lost and thus, the new one is required and since there is no synchronizing with the old booklet, it means all medical history has vanished. It becomes risky and difficult to perform surgery or operations on a patient if there is no up to date and consistent medical history and at times complications such as death are experienced.
this means, there is ineffective treatment and diagnosis of patients and poor coordination of care more especially when a patient is referred to a different doctor. Different doctors rely on a written booklet of which few details are noted and worse enough the doctor has to guess about the sickness of their patient when the booklet is lost.
Electronic booklet is decentralized online system that all medical practitioners will use to record and view up to date medical records of patients. If a patient visits a different health facility apart from their regular facility, all their medical records are accessible to authorized practitioners. This leads to improved coordination of care and effective treatment and diagnosis of patients hence improving health facilities in Lesotho.
Electronic booklet database has user friendly database features that will enable both medical practitioners and front lines of health to easily use the system. The features include name of hospital the patient has visited, name of a doctor or a nurse attending to the patient. There is patient unique identification (primary key) which will be used for identification of patients to avoid confusion where patients share the same name. This unique id is used to retrieve all detailed records of the patient, that is, tracking all medical history of the patient. More importantly, practitioners use this database to write down all relevant and detailed report of their patients after or during treatment (symptoms, disease discovered, action taken by practitioner, recommendation for treatment)
Moreover, it will also be of immense help in the scientific evaluation and review of patient management issues. Medical records form an important part of the management of a patient. It is important for doctors and medical establishments to properly maintain the records of patients for two important reasons. The first one is that it will help them in the scientific evaluation of their patient profile, helping in analyzing the treatment results and to plan treatment protocols. It also helps in planning government strategies for future medical care.

Existing systems similar to our solution are more focused in keeping records of patients for the benefit of hospitals and there is limited sharing of information between hospitals. Instead of building a system for every health facility, we develop one system that will be accessible by all medical practitioners from different health centers when need arise. Electronic booklet is mainly for better health of patients not the number of patients a certain hospital has. Our main focus is to integrate technology into health services to enhance consistency, personalized care and employ effective treatment and diagnosis of diseases.
In our solution, patients' medical records are stored in a centralized database server and practitioners access it through the internet using web browsers. We use programming skills to build a user friendly and secure database system to compliment health services. Medical practitioners will use their unique user login details in order to have full access on the records stored in the database. If a doctor/nurse wants to have an up-to-date records of a certain patient, they have to use the patient unique id which will retrieve all necessary data required.
We want to have the first production version in the next 6 months and the following 6 months we want to reach health groups so that they can start to use our solution. These health groups are health facilities working under one management or branched hospitals.
we believe that if we can start by approaching health groups to use our solution for a period of two years, we will be able to attract interests from private and government hospitals. This will increase the reach to most people so that they can be treated and diagnosed with informed decisions.
Our main aim with this solution is to reduce risky treatments and diagnosis of patients by improving coordination of care and enhancing effective treatment of patients. It is our vision that the system is fully functional and incorporated into different health facilities in our country.

We are a team of electronics and computer systems engineers from national university of Lesotho. We are developers and innovators who always look into applying technological skills in order to make our country improve standard of living more especially in the health and agriculture sectors.
We will attain revenue on annual commission with the use of the system on both private and public health facilities. The system also needs to be updated from time to time and this is where we will also charge during maintenance.
As young Basotho innovators, we believe technology is the major factor in improving standards of living by integration to our everyday living. Seed funding from SOLVE can help us get powerful and reliable server and all other tools required to launch the system. It is through SOLVE that we will be exposed to network of skilled and experience people in the health field who can assist us on advancing this project for better health services.
We believe that SOLVE can help us enrich the knowledge we have and gain more experience on how to make our solution more effective and easy to use so that health services improve and people get best health care services.
