The Data Driven Digital Hospital for South Africa
A digital infrastructure that will vastly improve the quality of healthcare in a country like South Africa
We drive universal access to public healthcare services by actively reducing and progressively eliminating existing gaps in healthcare delivery across Africa, using its unique set of innovative healthcare solutions to tackle the various challenges across healthcare delivery that have made ‘universal health coverage’ a utopia in most countries so far.
MEDx eHealthCenter B.V. aims to contribute to sustainable economic development in Africa by proposing solutions to achieve universal healthcare coverage. We have developed MEDx.Care, a digital health solution based on the World Health Organization’s recommended framework for sustainable healthcare systems. This digital health solution is a one stop shop combining visibility of medical doctors, available medications in pharmacies, patients medical records and payment systems using a remittance approach; that are designed to facilitate harmony across the health system, while straightening existing dysfunctions.
As of today, existing gaps in healthcare delivery have proven very costly to both patients, care providers, local health systems & communities, as well as the international community at large. To illustrate with clear examples, South Africa for instance counts 17% of the world’s population living with HIV/AIDS and ranks as the world’s largest antiretroviral treatment program, but only 40% of eligible adults infected by HIV in the country have access to existing treatment programs. Likewise, reports on maternal deaths reveal that the world maternal death rate reduced by approximately 56% between 1990 and 2015, that of Africa has only reduced by approximately 10% in the same period, in spite of receiving some of the largest donations in this domain of healthcare. Documented research evidences the fact that Universal Health Coverage can be achieved by implementing harmonious processes and systems within the health ecosystems to minimize dysfunctions.
Universal Health Coverage is the principle that everyone receives needed health services without financial hardship. A principle and a setup which we believe will benefit sustainable economic development in Africa, by enabling longer and more productive lives while averting health care costs.
Since bringing our solution to life, we have received may request and enquiries from young doctors in Africa who seek to find ways to reach more patients with the limited resources available to them. The common challenge we have faced has been finding the resources we need to organize face to face trainings with doctors and their patients on how to use the system, to help them overcome the challenges they face. Example projects we have had include;
Our experience with Dr. Sangwe in Cameroon, a young doctor working for the public health services and who has launched a private initiatie to train Volunteers on First Aid as well as carry out community Interventions.
- Effective and affordable healthcare services
- Coordination of care
We are focused on improving the quality of healthcare in emerging economies (primarily in Africa). We are not doing that by building brick and mortar hospitals but by offering a ‘digital hospital’. In other words, we have created a digital infrastructure that will vastly improve the quality of healthcare in a country like South Africa, where we introduced our first solution. Our focus is the affluent part of society, a market that is overlooked in delivering accessible quality healthcare.
Our digital hospital is offered online to both healthcare providers and their customers
- We have a SaaS solution in the cloud that allows both healthcare providers and their customers to use it with installing local software, a browser is enough
- Our SaaS solution is hosted on [cloud provider] with state of the art security that will ensure privacy of these confidential records.

- Our solution can be customised to support country specific rules or languages. We are ready to offer universal health care services to under cared countries.
We have recently signed an accord with one of the provincial Departments of Health in South Africa. This accord autorises us to deploy our digital health solutions to reduce patient waiting time in various public health facilities across South Africa. We are equally progressing discussions with another provincial department of health in South Africa to implement our solution as a referral system to connect remote clinics to district hospitals in South Africa. These represent an opportunity for us to improve access to healthcare services for an estimated 3 Million people in South Africa alone.
We wish to impact the quality of life of 20 million people in emerging markets over the next five to ten years by launching an innovative set of seven Care Services for the benefit of people, care providers, governments and healthcare ecosystem of each country.
Through digital hospital innovation and big data, MEDx eHealthCenter brings healthcare resources in every emerging market together in an effective and efficient way. This will directly lead to healthier people and communities, benefiting from the right diagnosis, treatment and follow-up, which in turn contributes to a better quality of life and sustainable economic growth.

Operational team :
One of our key objective is to create jobs across the emerging markets and we will therefore recruit through our HR local partners for all kind of operational activities both for the pilot and for the bigger deployment.
Because accessibility is the key topic we are addressing; We have looked into the actual number of the population in each of our target countries and we also checked it against the WHO best practice for Doctor/patients ratio.
This lead us to realise that of all our 27 countries; we have an average 0.6/1000 while the WHO recommends 2.3/1000. On a total population of 2568253740, this means a rough 1.9 Billions people not having access to healthcare.
MEDx.Care aims to focus on the 1% of the urban population that is tech savvy and financially well off at family level. That is the reason why we will offer to a rough 7 millions people vulnerable in urban areas a set of healthcare packages. These packages will be made available in collaboration with existing care providers, pharmacies, laboratories etc against a certain price. MEDx.Care will make sure to always get a 10% fee on every subscription.
We require a minimum of 6 months subscription per family.
Solve will help us get visibility in the US and equip us for funding and further technology discussions.
Key Barriers are Fund related to implement the projects. We need access to investors and funding to get some of our contracts moving. We are seeking either Equity of Debt based funding.
