Provide health care you can track for your parents and elderly loved ones from Anywhere in the world

The main problem GeroCare is solving is the provision of regular medical care for the elderly and improving on the current average life expectancy in Nigeria, which is currently only 53 years. 

Most of the elderly battle deteriorating health which neither the state nor their adult children are able to manage adequately. By leveraging technology GeroCare is able to provide quality, affordable and easily accessible health care for the elderly which ensures they not only live longer but have an improved quality of life. 

GeroCare makes it possible for Nigerians both within and outside Nigeria to subscribe for regular doctor visits for their parents and elderly loved ones in the comfort of their home. The families of the elderly can follow this care real time from anywhere in the world using the GeroCare mobile application. 

GeroCare manages the solution through an online hospital with outlets anywhere a GeroCare doctor and his/her GeroCare mobile application is present. There are currently 747 doctors across Nigeria registered on the system. Other members of the medical team (medical consultants, pharmacists, laboratory assistants) can also participate remotely via their own module of the GeroCare application. This ensures that the patients experience the entire hospital experience in the comfort of their home from Doctor review, home delivery of prescribed drugs and lab tests carried out at home. 

We believe that the future of health and wellness for Africans lies in proper preventive care and primary health care services, and the future of primary health care lies in a cloud based service in which all those providing health services do not need to be located in one building but can participate remotely from where ever they are through their mobile application linked to that of the primary care provider who is the doctor that interfaces with the patient.  A system that is easily scalable and replicable across cities and across countries. Hospitals without buildings where just by interaction with your doctor at home every other thing you need can be delivered to your home. 

We have replicated the entire hospital experience in the patient’s home. The doctor who visits the patient at home is connected to other members of the medical team (consultant, network of pharmacies and laboratories) through his Gerocare mobile application and theirs. Once the patient is reviewed requests are sent to the corresponding team member via the doctors app and drugs are delivered to the patient’s home or someone is dispatched from the lab to collect sample for tests from the patient at home. 

Our services are hinged on the GeroCare Software system. It is a central administrative medical services outsourcing and management system. It is easy enough to use and scalable enough to allow multi-dimensional expansion to other medical specialties, services and even other countries.

With this software coordinating the interaction between the mobile applications of the various members of the medical team, it ensures that every GeroCare doctor aided by the Gerocare doctor application is a hospital in motion as they are able to provide every service a hospital can provide to patients but in the comfort of their home.

GeroCare is a subscription based service. Our goal is  to have 30,000 monthly active subscribers in Nigeria alone and have scaled to one other West African country.

The future of primary health care lies in a cloud based service in which all those providing health services do not need to be located in one building but linked to the doctor by mobile applications. We know it is possible because we are already doing it. Though we are currently focused on the elderly, we plan to extend our services to provide doctor home visits for other demographic groups. Our vision is to be the first line medical care for Africans beginning in West Africa and then extending to South Africa 

As we got our first set of customers via our personal network and referrals from both within and outside Nigeria we intend to double down on this and partner with trusted networks like churches and other faith based organizations, professional associations and communities of Nigerians and other Africans living in diaspora to encourage them to enroll their parents and elderly loved ones.

In addition we would utilize digital marketing channels and strategic partnerships with health insurance companies and non-governmental organizations.

We currently have 700 registered users with 500 subscriptions. Our elderly patients receive a GeroCare Doctor home visit at least once a month which entails doctor review, provision of medication at home or home sample collection for laboratory tests as the case may be. 

We also provide real time updates on this care as it takes place to the sponsors who are most times the children of the elderly patients in the following ways:

1. Notifications when doctor arrives and when he leaves.

2. summary of their parents health status and recommendations for care

Based on our already existing strategic partnerships with Health insurance Companies and non-governmental organizations in the next 12 months we expect to be serving about 20,000 monthly active subscribers (elderly patients)  by providing them with a GeroCare Doctor home visit at least once a month.  In about 3 years we expect to be serving close to 100,000 subscribers. The overall impact of our service would an increase in the life expectancy of Nigerians and improved quality of life resulting from access to affordable, accessible and quality health care with an emphasis on preventive care. 

The GeroCare team is made up of Dr. Ebi Ofrey MBBS, MBA (C.E.O), Dr. Ajibola Meraiyebu PhD (C.O.O) and Mr. Bruce Lucas (C.T.O) who all have not only the necessary degrees and qualifications but an average of 15 years domain experience in their various areas of specialty i.e. Medicine/Business Management, Healthcare Marketing and Software and Application development respectively.

REVENUE MODEL

1. Monthly Client Subscription from the individual plan and enterprise plans  2. Yearly Renewal of Doctors Licenses to have access to the GeroCare Support System.  3. Referrals Commissions from other medical and non-medical services provided via our platform i.e. pharmacies, medical laboratories, care giver services

LONG TERM SUSTAINABILITY

2. Doctors and other services on our network are not employees as such there are minimal monthly costs. Services provided are paid for from subscriptions paid and on a fee for service basis

3. The need exists but there are no other adequate solutions available at the moment.

I am applying to solve for the access to mentorship, investing opportunities and the opportunity to participate in a collaborative effort to fine tune my business and business model. 

I believe Solve can advance my work by enabling me leverage on the skills and knowledge of the community which would provide me with insights i would not have been able to gain in any other way not to mention to exposure to the right network of mentors and investors.
