Launchnodes Ltd would like to apply for the World Bank grant to pilot a model that enables 10 women, in Kigali, Rwanda to receive the profits over 5 years from staking Ethereum (ETH), on a Beacon node on the ETH 2.0 Network and put it into their state pension (EjoHeza).

The 10 women will be graduates mothers working in informal sector who LaunchNodes in partnership with Save the Children International in Rwanda will train to use, earn, and hold cryptocurrencies or access decentralised financial instruments, and enrol them them into EjoHeza for social insurance saving.

The African Development Bank (AfDB) states that of Africa's nearly 420 million youth aged 15-35, one-third are unemployed  and discouraged, another third are vulnerably employed, and only one in six is in wage employment. Youth face roughly double the unemployment rate of adults, with significant variation by country. In Rwanda, UNECA reports that three out of four people  are employed in the informal sector, and percentage reaches to over 80% in case of women. These women don't have access to any social welfare. Based on this report the government is also concerned that people are not saving for there pension nor can they afford to save for their pension. 

This is the problem Launchnodes in partnership with Save the Children Rwanda are trying to solve. By generating a model by which a self sustaining income stream can be generated by staking Ethereum and paid to young Rwandan mothers, who can then become an active participant in Ethereum 2.0 and the global market that it represents.

The income generated from the Launchnodes StC beacon and validator node would go to the mothers who would convert some of it to Rwf and pay it into their state pension plan which is a new government scheme called EjoHeza

Launchnodes would train StC staff in how to run Validator nodes through our core product, and build a financial and risk model that allows them to understand every year how much they can pay to these women, based on the fluctuating price of ETH and interest rate generated by staking.

This solution will give poor mothers working in the informal sector a valuable and sustainale source of income and educate them about crypto-currencies and staking on blockchains and de-centralized finance.

Launchnodes 10 Women project in partnership with Save the Children Rwanda would be an opensource project that would allow multiple sustainable, social insurance programs, including pensions and savings accounts, by informal sector workers in Africa in to emerge through donors, governments and private businesses staking Ethereum and generating variable returns from the worlds largest public global blockchain network.

StC and Launchnodes will prove that young mothers can be educated to use Ethereum wallets and convert ethereum into their local currency and make payments to their state pension.

Decentralized finance is exploding in popularity, and is becoming the most compelling practical use case at scale for public blockchains, specifically Ethereum.

Ethereum 2.0 represents a unique opportunity for a new ability for global citizens to generate returns from participating in the network and staking Ethereum. Launchnodes wants this to be something everyone understands and participates in and hence we have reduced the technical hurdle significantly for participating by being able to stake easily using the public cloud allowing you to set up Beacon and Validator nodes in a few clicks.

By educating NGO's and having them participate early in staking and build new models of how they self sustainably finance money going to their beneficaries and manage the risk of variable returns and price volatitility of the Ethereum, we hope to significantly increase the number of NGO's and micro -finance organizations that build solutions in the space. Launchnodes exclusively uses opensource software in all its solutions and this project with Save the children, all of our material would be open source, crucially the financial model that we build that other organizations and NGO's can tweak for their use cases.

Our theory of change is based on the idea that if donors can provide funding to a project and the project has a financial and risk model that uses that donation to stake on an Ethereum node, then the donation rather than being a one off source of funding becomes an engine for perpetual donation, making the act of donation and the ability to run projects more sustainable.

It also allows for de-centralised donation within the NGO sector and beyond. That allows small pockets of capital to directly benefit people and projects over the long term, whilst also getting to engage and participate in the largets global public blockchain and to learn how to own and manage digital assets.

The 10 women project will be a test case for this from which we can build a number of opensource templates that allow others to learn and re-use. It will also provide a government solution for how Rwandans can contribute to the new state pension law / plan called Ejo-Heza where the government is mandating its citizens save for retirement.

Informal sector workers could be beneficiaries of the ethereum staking. This pilot will allow us to build local language training tools and templates that can easily extend to large numbers of informal workers.

We would look to make ethereum payments to our 10 women into their own personal ethereum wallets. Part of the project would be to select the best wallet that minimizes data costs and that is multi language, secure and has the best user-interface. Electrum is the likely choice based on our current thinking.

Launchnodes core product running in AWS does the staking and our goal is to train Save the Children in how to set these nodes up and run them for their internal projects but also offer their beacon node as something other NGO's can connect validator nodes to, thus reducing the cost for other NGOs and projects.

it doesnt really. But the staking is done on AWS by us so there is no issue of low connectivity, and because we use the public cloud we are always on and run on the best infrastructure that is available. 

In terms of our beneficiaries if they wish to sell ETH they will need internet connectivity but there is no need for it to be highspeed or always on.
