Mayanja Worker's Development Initiative.

Mayanja Worker's Development Initiative (MAWODI)  is committed to solving the problem of hunger. MAWODI is an organization which was formed for savings and credit plus animal and crop farming but the members are nolonger active because their jobs were affected due to the COVID 19 pandemic.They have no source of income to sustain a living . So we are proposing that if the members of MAWODI engage in cereal crop growing there will be increased food security, improved nutrition and low levels of poverty. This solution will positively change lives in that farmers will have descent livelihoods , nutritional diets ,food security and economic growth . Globally,2 billion people suffer food insecurity. 820 million people in Africa are still hungry . So our solution will reduce the percentage of the people suffering from hunger.

Globally ,2 billion people suffer food insecurity. 820 million people in Africa are still hungry and in our community 70% of the families still hungry. The factors which are contributing food insecurity among MAWODI members are unemployment, no source of income ,lack of capital to invest in agriculture .In our community children are undernourished ,they suffer deficiency diseases in the early ages.School children spend all day on an empty stomach.Food insecurity has affected quality education.149 million children remain stunted in 2018 in the whole world.There is need for cereal crops which can be consumed by the local people for proper nutrition and exported to earn income.

The target population are the women and men working in the informal sector such as retailers, shop attendants, private workers in schools .I usually communicate to them on phone to be updated on their living status, sometimes I visit their homes and encourage them to engage in subsistence farming . The solution will address their needs in the following ways; availability of food , sustainable homes , source of income , improved nutrition , sustainable agricultural production and descent livelihood of MAWODI members. As MAWODI members are nolonger having a source of income,they will grow the cereal crops for home consumption and surplus for sale.They will get food to feed their families and earn income from the harvest to sustain a living. When they earn income ,they will be able to pay up medical bills , electricity bills, basic needs and all needed of the well-being of their families.

Rural agriculture can really solve the problem of  hunger if MAWODI members have sustainable food systems,they will have sustainable homes.When a family has enough food to eat and can produce for sale a number of problems are solved. So the women and men working in the informal sector in MAWODI organization are competing for a Global prize in the dimension of ensuring vulnerable and marginalized groups able to register for an ID in a way that protects people's health,data and the integrity of the ID system (dimension 1).
