SOLUTIONS

Give ‘a second chance’ to orphans who have dropped out of school due to lack of school fees and early pregnancies by taking them back to school or vocational trainings. 

Pay school fees for Teenage Mothers who wish to continue with their education and provide day care for their babies.

Support widows with low income in the Sub-County through Micro-enterprise activities including improved farming, small scale business and vocational trainings.

These solutions will change the world in that more girls will return to school after giving birth and be able to continue with their education. widows in low income will be supported fully for them to be independent and be able to provide for themselves and their children and family members.

GENDER INEQUALITY

Teenage Mothers are young girls between the age of 10 –19 years who get unwanted pregnancies and are forced to drop out of school due to shame and added responsibilities of taking care of their own children and fending for themselves as ‘mature minors’. This has become rampant in our society due to many parents dying of AIDS and leaving their children as total orphans and left under the care of close relatives. Most relatives then send out the teenage girls as housemaids or fail to fully support the school going girls who then try to get money from men in exchange of sexual favors, which leads to unwanted pregnancies. Girls are forced into early marriages to older men or into child Labor so as to support the families and their children.

Death always destabilizes a family making family members to assume new roles and responsibilities.  Death also affects the community and the country at large since it relies on its citizens for taxation hence it’s income, so when a person dies, the community loses. For this reason, the Women of Faith decided to come together to strategize on how to alleviate problems faced by widows, Teenage Mother.

The target population is teenage women who have given birth and widows in the community.

In our African society mostly men are the bread winners of their families, they are the land owners and other communal property belongs to them. Therefore, when a man dies the family is thrown into confusion with reduced or no source of income. To some extent the relatives to the man snatch away the little resources left behind by their late brothers leaving the widows to fend for their children. This therefore increases the Psycho social and financial burden to the widow who if not supported develop chronic illness (including Peptic Ulcers, Hypertension, Diabetes and or HIV and AIDS) and may succumb to the illnesses leaving the children as total orphans.

These solutions will help the widows and pregnant women by supporting them financially in starting businesses and helping their family members left behind. 

The drop out of young girls in schools and the struggling of widowed women has greatly affected the development of many African countries. as we say a learned woman will have a learned generation compared to an illiterate woman , the women of faith is willing to help these young women and widowed women by providing them with financial support and also helping the young teenage women who have given birth by making sure they return back to school and finish their education. women in the rural areas in the African countries also lack the access to technology.
