The technical service sector in Africa is plagued by lack of properly trained professionals, difficult access to market opportunities for persons to sell their services and a general low income among technicians. These disadvantages are further reinforced by an unprofessionalism problem that puts skilled technicians and artisans at the losing end of many job opportunities. All these challenges facing the sector make it very difficult for technicians to access work opportunities and hence they suffer from low income levels and are unable to fully handle basic responsibilities for themselves and their families. The solution that Maibeta has brought into the market is two fold: we conduct skills development trainings to improve the skills of local technicians and artisans and then connect them to job opportunities in the technical service sector through our on-demand web platform. User of the platform are then able to instantly get access to over a thousand technicians that have been verified and trained by us and who are not only skilled in their trades but also have the right customer service attitude when it comes to dealing with customers. Our solution has gone a long way to connect technicians and artisans who would otherwise be idle and unemployed to work opportunities with individual and institutional customers and in the process creating jobs and drastically improving the earnings potential of workers.

In the African marketplace, Maibeta has a few other competitors offering a similar offering. Our competitive advantage is the quality of the professionals on our platform, customer service excellence and ability to seamlessly blend our technology with offline operations to offer the best opportunities to our professionals and increase their incomes.
How technology is integral to our solution:
Through the Maibeta platform, users contribute to the digital economy because they create employment for technicians and artisans either directly (by hiring a technician themselves) or indirectly (by talking about Maibeta with friends/family, who in turn use our services).
We rely on technology to execute our actions at Maibeta Inc and power our operations. We use cloud based services for most of our office and administrative tasks. Our team communication is assured by multiple technology enabled platforms. Many tech savvy technicians use our technology to register online, join our technician roster, and provide their services to the public.

Our vision over the next three to five years to grow and scale our solution to affect the lives of more people:
In five years we want our platform to be used in all major cities in Cameroon as well as in at least 10 mega cities around Africa. Basically we want to become the go-to technical service platform for the hiring of professional services in Africa.
Our initiative was constructed to fulfil our customers' expectations especially as we give our customers the opportunity to make independent hiring decisions through our online platform. Positive customer experience in itself has been an age-old problem in Africa which we are trying to solve today to contribute in the growth of the customer service sector.

Maibeta empowers and connects technicians, artisans and other handymen to opportunities. They form a minority which have been neglected over the years. In Africa, a typical technician is unable to comfortably take care of his family's needs -- the lower a technician's income, the lower his socio-economic status and inferentially, the lower his ability to 'belong' in society.
Maibeta enables these groups of people to become avid users of technology by providing a portal through which their services can be bought easily online without geographical or other physical constraints and also introduces them to technology use.

How many people we are currently serving with our solution:
Since 2015 Maibeta has been able to connect more than 1000 technicians in its database to over 2300 job opportunities and impacting 9000 lives in the process. Our revenue has seen an average of 90% growth year on year and we are poised for even greater growth in the coming period. Over 75% of these transactions that Maibeta has been able to conduct which have translated to jobs for blue collar workers have been directly via its online portal(Maibeta.com) while the other 25% has been through other channels such as WhatsApp, SMS and direct phone calls from persons looking to hire technicians. Our technician database has also been one of the main tools through which we use to add professionals into our database as well as communicate with them about available opportunities of jobs.

Explaining our organization:
Maibeta Inc. was established in 2015 in Buea, Southwest Region of Cameroon and this location serves as our headquarters. We operate all over Cameroon presently and are constantly looking to improve our services in these areas by expanding our technician database and making sure we can connect these persons to opportunities. We currently have 12 full time staff; 5 part-time and 3 volunteers, and a database of over 1000 technicians acorss Cameroon. Our organization is very flat as we believe each and every team member is valuable contributes enormously to the sustainability of our operations.

Bamai Namata is the founder of Maibeta Inc. and has been leading the organization from 2015 up until present. The norm in hiring persons for blue collar jobs in Africa has always been that people have to walk around and get the contact of a technician from a utility pole or look for a recommendation from friends and family. As the digital economy offered greater opportunities for professionals to find employment, Maibeta created a way for people to access these advantages and save time, money and get access to the best professionals trained and verified by our service.

Our business strategy includes identifying the strengths of our services as well as those which have the highest demand and working to improve the offering and the skills our professionals in that area. Maibeta's plan of action is to penetrate further into its current market and look towards expanding towards other making to achieve better profitability. We've been devising new sales and delivery channels like the mobile app whose creation we have already launched.

Partnership Potential
Why we are applying to Solve:
First we would optimize our premium mobile app whose creation we launched a few weeks ago. Make it more efficient and user friendly so that even the most unschooled person can use with ease. This would increase the number of technicians who get hired through the app per day. We would hire more software engineers to optimize our technology and add our marketing team to improve sales and awareness about the company. In all we will hire about 10 more people in these two functions and leverage the exposure from the competition to attract new partners to grow the company.
The key barriers for our solution:
Internally, Maibeta faces risks such as shortage of skilled operations staff and lack of funds to drive scaling and increase profitability.
Externally, copycat businesses and high costs of initial customer acquisition and operations pose barriers. We minimize our external threats by building on our technology and improving our sales funnels and building on free marketing tactics such as word of mouth.
