Hardcover notebook, envelope production
i am Mugumya Husein, 27 years old, I have a bachelor degree in Information Technology from Islamic University in Uganda.
I have worked with Duplex computer services. This deals with computer related services, stationery and others. I have worked with Madinah ICT center. I am the director of Adni Charitable Organisation Limited.
This project is intended to reduce poverty and fight unemployment in marginalised groups in the community. These include women, youth and disabled ones.
The project involves locally producing, hardcover notebooks, spiral notebooks, parcels and envelopes. This project is flexible since it does not require a lot space. Thus can be done event at homes of these people.
The mentioned groups of people are able to earn daily income when they produce these products and sell them. This reduces poverty and unemployment in the community. The products of the projects have ready market since they are used in every day life. People are able to sustain their lives with this project.
People will get school fees for their children, pay their daily bills like water, electricity and others.
Since youth are having what to do, no anti-social behaviors will occur like robbery, gambling, drug abuse, alcoholism and others hence eleveting community.
The major problem here is poverty and unemployment.
A lot of youth, women , people with disabilities in the community are jobless. This means people are not able to sustain day today life needs. These include , school fees, food, clothing, Bills, medical Bills and other life necessities.
This unemployment is most caused by increases school drop outs, lack of government engagement to local people and poor family background. This problem affects almost 3000 people in the targeted community.
The project deals with making hard cover notebooks, spiral notebooks, parcels, envelops. People use skills to create notebooks out of papers, boards, glue, cloths and others materials to produce nice looking notebooks that are sold to local stores, schools, institutions, offices, hospitals and others to get income. They also make parcels that are used in any places like supermarkets, hospitals, food vendors, shops and many others as packaging materials.
They also make envelopes that are also used every where.
The project is mostly for youth, women, disabled people. These people can care for then selves since the earn some income. After selling products
- Elevating opportunities for all people, especially those who are traditionally left behind
This addresses the issue of improving community well-being.
This idea came up after realising that these groups were once given chicken, goats but the these projects did not help solve the community problems since the project ended in failure due to disease that attacked their birds, animals, others were stolen, others were sold before right time, Others ate them and ended with nothing.
This made me think of easy, reliable, flexible, durable project that can best work for the community since the risks of this project are less. This project does not require a lot of care like that of precious projects.
Me personally, I grew up in poor family background where by we survived by help from others. This modeled my heart also to help those that are in need. This encouraged me to start up an organisation that address these issues. I put my self in the shoes of those who need something in order to survive and feel touched so much. Thus this motivates and drives me to this point of this project.
During school i used to manage a lot of associations and run out successfully in accomplishing their goals and objectives. I have been also involved in community based work for long time as volunteer. Besides this I have worked in a lot of stationeries and computer centres and I have gained enough skills. Knowledge about this project. I also know how fruitful it is due to its ready and availability of market.
It takes sometime for some members to gain skills. This has been addresses by providing enough and extra time for them. Also we have changed the professionals and experts in order to achieve maximum expectations.
Shortage of raw materials have also been a challenge. We try to address this by purchasing on credit and pay later after selling our products.
Transport means have also been a challenge. With this we try hire cheap car that collects and transports from work stations to markets.
Members with bad characters. We have tried to bring in counsellors and counsel such people and model them to fit in the community.
I led many associations at the university. These associations that I took their leadership ran smoothly. I have been a secretary in Buramba woman's voice association. During this our regime was doing well in serving the community. I have a family of which I head it smoothly. I was once a religious leader in Buramba village. I served people well and managed them. I engaged in census government program as am enumerator.
I was a chairman of youth club where we manage to do a lot of community activities.
