Hello, I am Konark Manocha - an Engineer, Entrepreneur & Innovator with a passion towards solving social issues through an entrepreneurial lens. I have been interested in trying to create and capture value in the form of sustainable and environmental gains, and innovating for social transformations. My ongoing projects are related to solving some of the pressing issues such as Traffic Congestion, Transport Emissions, Air Pollution, and Reducing COVID-19 spread.

Role: To develop simple, workable & easy to implement Ideas/Solutions to different problems and challenges faced by society, creating social and environmental values.

As a kid born and brought up in the business family, I have been passionate towards being an entrepreneur myself since an early age.

1. I am determined to minimize the spread of the novel Coronavirus. Coronavirus can be easily transmitted from Person to Person mainly through the droplets produced when an infected person speaks, cough, or sneezes. These droplets can land in the mouths or noses of nearby people.  To prevent the spread of Coronavirus, Corona Hats & Corona Helmets act as an additional PPE which can provide a safe personal space and control the spread of disease from Person to Person. These related projects can also lead to an efficient way of Social Distancing-- in both in open and closed spaces.
2. Corona Hats & Corona Helmets provide an effective and feasible way of enforcing social distancing in both the indoor and outdoor spaces.

COVID-19, characterized as a global pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO) has profoundly impacted the many walks of social and economic life. COVID-19 is a highly infectious pandemic disease that has affected the daily life of every human being, with more than 12.6 Million being diagnosed, and more than 562 K lost lives so far. As the outbreak of this virus continues to spread globally,the quest for finding a vaccine or medicine goes on, and the world leaders are increasingly being drawn to stimulate the drug development process. Both Corona Hat & Corona Helmets are additional PPE for the daily use of the General Public 

They can ensure complete protection from external germs, viruses present in the atmosphere, public places like malls, metros, hospitals, and other crowded places, etc. and improve Social Distancing. Preventing the spread of coronavirus means that there will be less infections, those severely affected will be able to be treated effectively as most hospitals are operating at maximum limits and therefore, wearing the Corona Hats and Corona Helmets will serve as an effective weapon against the Coronavirus.

These products are currently being developed in the manufacturing unit in India. They have got appreciation from the Government Authorities and are endorsed by a member of the WHO Health Emergencies Program Experts Advisory Panel for Infectious Prevention and Control Preparedness, Readiness, and Response to COVID-19.

Corona Hat 

I had an idea of making an umbrella inflatable which completely revolutionizes an umbrella by making it super easy to carry, lightweight, very comfortable, and can be carried inside user pockets when not in use. Due to the Coronavirus Outbreak, I simply circulated for the consideration of health authorities, COVID support teams including MIT Project Manus, inflatable products manufacturers of different countries to make them,  and other available platforms for the use of the general public an option in form of Corona Hat as that was Need of an Hour! Further, I decided to not apply for the IPR as it would delay in bringing these projects for the use of the public and defeat my sole purpose of solving pressing social issues.

Corona Helmet

I started wearing a mask due to the Coronavirus pandemic. However, wearing a mask was not comfortable for me and I noticed that I kept on adjusting my mask and unintentionally or accidentally was touching my nose and mouth more than usual. 

Hence I developed Corona Helmets and it can be more comfortable than wearing a mask and ensures a complete 360-degree protection and restricts user from touching face, mouth, nose eyes accidentally.

From the very beginning, I have been keen on developing New Innovative Products, and Ideas/Solutions which can bring real and meaningful impact to the society.

Corona Hat & Helmets can prevent people from getting infected from novel coronavirus and that makes me feel really proud and grateful that I am also working on projects which will help the society. 

The following studies/research inspired me to develop Corona Hat & Helmets 

• A recent study conducted by Professor McLaws and two of her Ph.D. students revealed people touch their faces on average 23 times an hour, which equates to 368 times a day if we sleep for eight hours a night.

• Every person should have a face shield. They provide better facial protection than masks, Edmond believes, as well as being reusable and more comfortable. They also prevent wearers from touching their faces and make it easier to communicate with others, since the mouth is visible.

Corona Hat was submitted for the consideration of Professor McLaws and I got positive feedback.

I have a track record of converting an A4 sheet idea into a successful product Selling in over 350 High street stores across the country. 

Example: Smart Shoe Brush 

In 2014 I had this idea of a shoe brush with attached inbuilt wax polish cartridge 

In 2015 the product was sold in over 350 stores of Home Bargains in the UK. 

Within 1 year I was able to convert my drawing idea into a successful product by undergoing all the below-mentioned procedures. 

• Idea - Rough sketch of an Idea on an A4 sheet of a Sketchpad
• CAD Stage - Building 3D model of Sketchpad design into CATIA 
• Patenting - Registered Design Granted ‘Smart Shoe Brush’
• Prototyping - Several prototypes were made to reach the perfection stage
• Networking - Attended various events, exhibitions to get links 
• Sales - Became a supplier of Home Bargain and getting sales order for smart shoe brush
• Manufacturing - Finding the right manufacturing and negotiating the best price. 
• Shipping - Shipping order from India to UK warehouse.  
• Achieving - Won Best Business Development Award and was published in 2 newspapers the main news of Business Section.

I went to the UK in 2010 to study Mechanical Engineering from Coventry University and after completing my degree I was selected as one of the 10 students in my university under a Graduate Entrepreneur Visa.

I founded K.M. Innovative Products Ltd and was successfully able to commercialize my brainchild- Smart Shoe Brush and received the award of Best Business Development. 

Unfortunately, my visa application to switch from Graduate Entrepreneur to Entrepreneur was rejected as my CA mistakenly showed my father investment into the business as Creditors rather than shareholders. It was one of the biggest setbacks of my life, as it halted the operations of my startup, and I had to leave the country. 

I came back to India and started working on new projects that can bring a big impact to society. For instance, one of my projects aimed at reducing traffic congestion by providing a novel sustainable transport mode through shared mobility has been appreciated, endorsed, and given permission to operate by the concerned Transport Authorities of the European Union, India, Singapore, New Zealand, and Australia.  

My other idea/solution to improve commuters capacity in Metros trains has been appreciated and implemented by the LTA Singapore.

I am deeply inspired by Robert Frost’s poem -- “The Road Not Taken”. I believe that Entrepreneurship is not solely the domain of profit-seeking individuals and firms. The role of individuals and organizations seeking to create and capture value in the form of sustainability, environmental, cultural, social, and institutional gains is imperative in providing solutions to some of the pressing social issues.

Being a social entrepreneur has not been an easy task. Even without the availability of any external funding, network and  alliance, I have been passionately working towards providing ideas and solutions aimed at social issues. So far, I have been successful in obtaining permissions and approvals from different government authorities across the world regarding my products ideas/solutions.
