Covid Lens - The future of health.
Am currently a student pursuing Computer Science. Am passionate about humanity and am very ambitious in making a difference not only in our country but also the world in general. Having volunteered in the Red Cross I have encountered a lot of people who are undergoing different challenges and I believe together we can put a smile in them. We can make a difference in their lives and make this world a better place.
The problem I embark on solving is early detection in abnormalities in vital signs reading and monitoring of one's health vital signs by storing and interpretation of the readings for the user. Am proposing a project about a mobile application that will use artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms such as Neural Machine Translation algorithms and Optical Character Recognition to capture vital signs using a smart phone camera and upload it in our database. I realized people lack the knowledge to understand and interpret vital measurements. The project will elevate humanity by enabling them read and interpret the vital signs data, monitor the data changes and warns you with a red colour when it is above normal and connects you to a doctor. It will also store the data for you for future reference.
The specific problem am working to solve is the lack of people to monitor their vital signs and lack of the knowledge to interpret the vital signs. Vital signs changes are triggered by different things such our lifestyle, alcohol, diseases and many others.Example in the case of a Covid19: Everyday our temperature are measured in malls, hotels, supermarkets and various buildings and there is no database where our vital measurements are stored hence if one contracts the deadly virus he/she cannot trace when it started. In some scenarios one may be taken the vital measurements such as blood pressure but he lacks the know how to interpret the data. It will also be used to store other health related information such as the last time you were tested for corona virus or other diseases. The problem affects the whole world in general as most people don't monitor their vital measurements.Nearly 800,000 Americans die each year from heart disease and stroke due to lack of early detection and screening which could not be the case if vital signs were being monitored.
My project is basically a mobile based application. I will use artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms such as Neural Machine Translation algorithms and Optical Character Recognition to capture vital signs using a smart phone camera, interpret the data and upload it in our database. It will store this data and monitor it over time.It warns you with a red colour when it is above normal and connects you to a doctor. This will be very vital in early detection and screening of diseases.
My project will serve anyone with a smart phone and it will impact their life by early detection and screening of diseases. The community am directly and meaningful improving is anyone who wants to monitor their health and vital measurements as the application will interpret and store the data for them. The project will enable them to seek treatment early therefore reducing their chances of dying due to lack of early detection.
- Elevating issues and their projects by building awareness and driving action to solve the most difficult problems of our world
The idea of the project initially began after loosing a number of my relatives due to lack of early detection and screening. Yesterday I lost my grandmother due to cardiac arrest which could be detected early if her vital were being monitored.I realized for people who monitor their vital most of them lack the knowledge to understand and interpret vital measurements.
Am passionate about humanity, It is very sad to see someone die due to something that could be prevented. I want people to have control over their health and help them to live longer. I want to bring change in the society.
I am a very ambitious and driven person who works hard to attain my goals. Am a team player and the ability to change people lives has always been my passion. During my volunteer time in Red Cross, I had the ability to interact with people from diverse backgrounds and this gave me a strong urge to develop something that could help them and reduce their suffering. This could help the world be a better place.
Last year, During my volunteer time in Red Cross I was able to be part of distributing food and disaster response. There was this time last year there was a terrorist attack in one of the hotels in our country I was able to be part of people who undertook a blood drive which happened day and night for a week which enabled us to collect more than enough blood that was stored in the blood bank. This blood was able to help other patients suffering from other diseases as well. I am happy when I see people live and thank you for saving their lives.
I have been able to organize various blood drives during my time at Red Cross and organized various food drives. I have also been able to visit children homes and donated food and did chores for them.I have also been able to encourage different people and put a smile on their face.
