Wanted Community
Born in Bordeaux, I grew up with mum who did all possible sacrifices she could to make me personally & professionally accomplished. Restless student preferring parties over lessons, I somehow finished my studies & passed with success my bar exam. Lawyer specialized in international taxation at E&Y Paris, my boring job was to advise rich expatriates on how to juggle with tax loopholes. Seeking for meaning in my personal & professional life, I decided to quit my job after the 2015 terrorist attacks (Paris). My new refreshing start came from a side project I was co-managing since 2011 with two childhood friends, Jérémie & Luc.

“Wanted” a 1 million members Community based on social cohesion, whose direct extension is the creation of socially responsible digital (Facebook’s Groups) & physical (Wanted Cafés) trusted spaces. My name is Christian Delachet & I am happy to bring you into my new meaningful world.
Our aim is to efficiently fight social exclusion, loneliness, & poverty by promoting social cooperation thanks to our inclusive & socially responsible digital (localized Facebook’s Groups) & physical (Wanted Cafés) trusted spaces.
- Wanted Facebook Groups:
86 localized Facebook groups, nearly 1 million members (Wanted Paris, Wanted Bordeaux etc...) carry out daily selfless & empathic actions ranging from mutual assistance to supporting people in precarity situation (meals, jobs, accommodation, etc...).

Strengthen social ties between citizens to promote an organic & spontaneous emergence of mutual assistance tending towards a more inclusive and sustainable society, such is our vision. The creation of trusted spaces, whether digital or physical is our way of supporting this local social cohesion.
Loneliness rate has doubled since the 1980s, even if we live in the most “connected” era in our history. 23,5% of the European population (13,5% of French population) is in an objective situation of exclusion & poverty which represents 118 million people (7 million French people) aged over 15 (cf. 2018 DREES Statistics).

Lonely people expressed, more than the rest of the population, a feeling of distrust towards strangers. Nearly 3/4 (72%) think that you can never be confident enough towards others. Just like health, material & rights deprivation, social exclusion is 1 of the 8 poverty dimensions ... (2019 poverty report by “Secours Catholique”). A real modern issue when you know that 65% of “poor” people are living in urban cities.
How to live & thrive when you are cut off from the rest of the society? "A man who is socially excluded is both vulnerable to the future & overwhelmed by the lack of consideration from peers". (Serge PAUGAM). Be heard, create social ties, help each other: as our society does not offer to everyone an answer to these aspirations, each month hundreds of thousands of people push the doors of both our digital and physical trusted spaces.
“Wanted” is a 1 million members Community based on mutual aid & social cooperation, whose direct extension is the creation, management, & animation of socially responsible digital & physical trusted spaces.
"Wanted" Facebook Groups:
With 86 local Facebook Groups generating 2 million of interactions between citizens on a monthly basis, our community efficiently promote the creation of social interactions in urban areas. “Wanted” is the best way:
- to stay informed about what’s going on in your neighbourhood whether it’s:
- finding a job, local events, accommodation ...
- sharing recommendation & tips ...
- to accomplish daily empathic actions as:
- find a job & an apartment to a homeless in less than 48h
- organizing social patrols to provide social and food support to homeless in Paris (12K meals in 2019)...

"Wanted Cafés" (1 in Bordeaux since 2019 & 1 in Paris at the end of 2020) are a new kind of socially responsible & inclusive cafes-restaurants seeking to strengthen local social cohesion through simple actions:
- 2% of turnover monthly refunded to local solidarity initiatives (€ 8K in 2019),
- meals & coffees offered to people in needs on a daily basis (7K in 2019) cultural inclusive events (100 in 2019)

“Wanted” has no colour, no gender, no age, no religion, no social class.
Through the creation, management, & animation of inclusive spaces, we are offering to people the opportunity to be closer & stronger together regardless their personal or professional condition. “Wanted” philosophy is not about helping the weakest or the poorest people. We do not believe in a “vertical” assistantship vision. Why? Because we believe in an infinite circle of reciprocal relationships.
We are co-building & managing all our spaces in collaboration with our members:
- Moderation, rules & values of the groups, social initiatives (social patrol, clean walk …) linked to “Wanted” Facebook Groups are implemented & accomplished by our members (1K volunteers involved last year)

With this horizontal & participative approach we are as close as possible to our members expectations & acting only as facilitators. By the end of 2020 we will go one step further by offering to our members the opportunity to become co-investors & partners into our spaces to be even more linked & become one.

With “Wanted” digital & physical trusted spaces we are gathering people & impacting their beliefs & behaviours (3rd EP’s dimension) through the reinforcement of social ties & the creation of social initiatives driving to solve issues or inequalities (2nd EP’s dimension) mainly affecting the weakest (loneliness, exclusion, poverty / 1st EP’s dimension…)
In my first life, I was a tax lawyer at E&Y Paris. Until the age of thirty, I rolled on the rails of a promising but completely meaningless career for the young adult I was. How to stop feeling suffocated & get my head out of the water?
My breath of fresh air came from a side project I was co-managing since 2011 with two friends, Jérémie & Luc. A local Facebook Community based on recommendations with the sole goal to be useful to newcomers & Paris’ inhabitants. After the 2015 terrorist attacks, we observed thousands of Parisians joining the Community to help each other & gather around positive values. Once the shock has passed, we decided to quite our respective jobs & transform our Community purpose from recommendation to mutual assistance. Our goal was to transform the temporary solidarity born from this tragedy to a daily & sustainable social cooperation. After years of introspection, construction, implementation, sacrifice & devotion, I am happy to introduce myself as Christian Delachet co-founder of “Wanted”, a 1 million members Community based on social cohesion, whose direct extension is the creation of socially responsible digital (Facebook’s Groups) & physical (Wanted Cafés) trusted spaces

I am so passionate by our adventure that respecting the number of words per answer was a real challenge ;) However, regarding this particular question my answer will be very simple & short.
Before the “Wanted” adventure I would summarize myself as an only child, selfish & not really interested by his meaningless professional career, with the only hobby of partying excessively which was ruining its social life & its health.
Thanks to the “Wanted” adventure I am daily growing & improving myself. Still a long way to go but now I am not alone in this human adventure thanks to all my Community’s members who are inspiring & amazing me every day. I have finally discovered the pleasure to learn from people & build with them a project which socially, intellectually & emotionally feed me.

Be part & gather people from different cultures, religions, colours, professions & backgrounds fighting for a more inclusive & sustainable society, how my life could be more exciting? I sleep, eat & breathe “Wanted”. As “Wanted” is helping me to grow, I hope “Wanted” will lead our Community’s members to grow as well & that’s where my passion to gather people comes from.
"Alone, we can do so little; together, we can do so much" (Helen Keller). I don’t know if I will success to deliver the project, but I am sure I will not be able to make it without the support of the whole Community’s members. I don’t pretend to predict the future, however I know that I:
- Quitted a promising lawyer’s career to be 100% focused on “Wanted” (both challenging & liberating)
- Worked & made sacrifice for this project with more than 8 years without earning 1 cent
- Co-built:
- one of the largest Facebook Community in the world without knowing anything about social media
- a new kind of socially responsible cafés welcoming for everybody & reinforcing social ties without knowing nothing about the restauration sector
- impactful social initiatives without knowing anything about social & associative world
- Managed a USD 1 million budget whereas all I ever had to manage was my 20K unemployment insurance
I believe more than anything in:
- our project’s initial values (empathy, altruism, caring, cooperation & solidarity
- our social business reinforcing social ties between all citizens
- an infinite circle of reciprocal relationships
- our digital & physical spaces leading to a more inclusive & sustainable society
I have never:
- been supported by so many kind & caring people (co-founders, volunteers, partners, members & beneficiaries)
- learned so much in such a short time
- felt so useful, alive & fearless to fail
- been so personally & professionally accomplished
I will never give up no matter the challenges/obstacles we will face

Quitting my lawyer’s career was one of the most challenging but also liberating decision I have ever made. At that time “Wanted” was just a:
- 40K members’ Community based on city tips
- side project without any financial sustainability
Hopefully, I was supported by friends & driven by an inner strength to:
- leave my former career, become unemployed & move from Paris to Bordeaux for economic reasons
- work day & night without results facing the doubtful look from my former colleagues, friends & family
- make hundreds of bad decisions without losing heart & faith
Only 2 months before the end of my unemployment insurance, close to physical & moral exhaustion, hard work finally paid off. We went from:
- a community based on tips to a meaningful Community
- a unique Facebook Group (40K members) to 86 local Groups (1 million members)
- a 100% digital presence to social initiatives & physical places impacting lives
- a social project without financials means to a social business positively involving citizens & brands
- an unknown project to a popular one ranking by Facebook as 1st meaningful Community in Europe, publishing a book, reaching 100 million people thanks to media coverage (2019/2020) & currently working on a movie

“The key to successful leadership is influence not authority” (Kenneth Blanchard). Therefore, as a Community Builder I only try to empower our Community’s members to accomplish their goals. I try to live by this precept because:
- Quitting my substantial remuneration & promising former career influenced my 2 co-founders to consider our common adventure as a lifetime project
- Working on the creation of "Wanted" Cafés & supporting social initiatives (food distribution) influenced our Community’s members to consider “Wanted” as an impactful project in real life & not only through a social network

- Introducing our Community in one to one to Chris Cox (Facebook CPO) while bypassing security at an event in London played a key role regarding “Wanted” ranking as 1st meaningful Community in Europe (Top 5 World, 1 million USD prize pool).

- Supporting Sabrina one of our Parisian Community member founder of “Wanted” social patrols (12K meals distributed per year) influenced other non-profit organization to join us & create a collective (RAliment) which distributed more than 90K meals to homeless during the COVID19’s in France.

Nothing is impossible, this is just the beginning, we have so many things to learn & overcome together with our Community’s members

Our digital & physical spaces are managed by a for profit organization “Wanted Nation” & our social initiatives are supported by a non profit organization “L’amicale Wanted".
Our non-profit organization allows us to:
- leverage funds from foundations, solidarity funds & individuals in counterpart of tax deduction
- co-brand social initiatives with brands in counterpart of tax deduction & social marketing (cf. hereafter)
Thanks to our for profit organization we are creating financial value & are becoming self-sufficient by:
- generating incomes through our services (Wanted Café)
- generating marketing fees (co-branding of social initiatives)
- transforming our members in co-investors
- leveraging funds through investors

Based on the above, our project is creating a virtuous & infinite circle of reciprocal relationships & interests allowing us to reinforce each year both our social impact & our financial ressources.
That's our vision of social entrepreneurship. 1. Facebook:
Ranking as 1 of the 5 most meaningful communities in the world (1st in Europe) on Facebook social platform. We are:
- are one of the 5 residents of the Facebook Community Leadership Program & benefited from a USD 1 Million grant
- closely working with Facebook teams in US (ex: We have been direclty contacted by Fidji Simo (Head of Facebook App)to work on Facebook feature improvements during the Covid19 health crisis)
2. Global Giving & Dalberg:
Advise by Dalberg & Global Giving grantee, we are working with their respective teams on:
- our theory of change, social impact & business model (sustainibility)
- the management of the Facebook USD 1 Million grant
3. Société Générale:
"Société Générale" is the bank which support us in the funding of our "Wanted" Cafés & social initiatives.
4. French Public Institutions:
We are working closely with Bordeaux & Paris city hall teams on social cohesion & cooperation projects due to our important number of members into these two cities (500K members in Paris & 160K members in Bordeaux)
5. Harmonie Mutuelle (2,5 billion of turnover in 2019), Heineken (24 billion of turnover in 2019), Kronenbourg (1 billion of turnover in 2019) & France Boisson (20 million of turnover in 2019):
We are in discussion with these brands to conclude different partnership contracts linked to the funding of our:
- social & solidarity initiatives
- inclusive & socially responsible "Wanted" Cafés
Plus marketing fees linked to the communication around our project positive impact.
Our business model is based on 3 pilars:
- "Wanted" Cafés incomes: Incomes generated through the operation of our physical places (USD 460K "Wanted" Café Bordeaux in 2019 & USD 1 million expected for the 1st year of "Wanted" Café in Paris)
- To finance "Wanted" Cafés social initiatives
- To generate regular incomes, develop the project & become sustainable & self-sufficient
- "Social" brand partnerships revenues: Sponsoring (co-branding) & marketing fees (communication) linked to our social initiatives.
- To reinforce our social impatc while reducing the cost of our social initiatives
- To generate regular incomes, develop the project & become sustainable & self-sufficient
- Membership program revenues: Funds leverage to our Community members & brands to co-invest into our physical spaces of trust ("Wanted" Cafés).
- To reduce our investment
- To reinforce our members/customers feeling of belonging, involve them into social initiatives, retain them into our "Wanted" Cafés, generate more incomes & become sustainable & self-sufficient
We are also listening investors, business angels & brands which could be tented to invest. For the moment we are generating value & incomes through our business model before accelerating with potential extra funds/external investments.
2011: We spent 9 years to develop our digital Community without earning any incomes. We refused several proposition of monetization linked to advertising. At this time our priority was to create a meaningful Community with a strong feeling of belonging.
2015: After the terrorist attacks, we decided to transform our side project into a life adventure. We started to think to a business model in line with our social values & Community's members expectations.
End of 2018: Create socially responsible physical spaces ("Wanted" Cafés) in line with our values while generating incomes was the 1st step into our monetiation journey.
2019: After 1 year of operation, our "Wanted" Café was profitable while generating postive impact. During this 1 year, we self-funded all "Wanted" social initiatives (free meals, inclusive events, donation to local non-profit organizations ...) & self-communicate on our positive impact. Then, Facebook helped us to:
- develop our digital community on their platform,
- reinforce our visibility & media coverage
- modelize our Theory of Change & our Business Model
- create our 2nd "Wanted" Café in Paris (opening by the end of 2020)
2020: Our project has a solid foundation, our positive impact is increasingly important & our business model is built (cf. previous question). We are now testing our business model with some brands ( 3 pilars: membership program, brands partnerships & "Wanted" Cafés incomes)
2021: Next year will be a turning point thanks to the implementation of our whole business model which shall lead to sustainibility & financial development.
2019:
- "Wanted" Café Bordeaux => USD 460K turnover (our own incomes)
- Société Générale => USD 110K bank loan (Wanted Café Bordeaux opening)
- Facebook Grant => USD 1 million grant
- Publishing house => USD 5K for the book release linked to our adventure
End of 2020:
- "Wanted" Café Bordeaux => USD 360K turnover (loss expected due 4 months lockdown)
- bank loan of almost USD 1.2 million is negociation for "Wanted" Café Paris opening (USD 1 million of turnover expected for the 1st year of opening)
- brand partnerships of almost USD 100K is expected (co-branding of social initiatives & marketing fees)
- membership program of almost USD 100K is expected (members co-investment)
- Movie produceur fees => USD 25K for the movie preparation on our adventure
- Conference fees => USD 5K for conferences & consultancy on Digital Community
2021 (expected):
- "Wanted" Café Bordeaux => USD 450K turnover (our own incomes)
- "Wanted" Café Paris => USD 1 million turnover (our own incomes)
- brand partnerships of almost USD 200K is expected (co-branding of social initiatives & marketing fees)
- membership program of almost USD 200K is expected (members co-investment)
This is just a quick summary of our possibilities for 2021. We are also interested into improvement of our business model thanks to Elevate Prize Program & meet potential investors due to the MIT network & connections.
On a day to day, we are looking for being financially self-sufficient. Our idea is to cover our operating costs & generating extra money to self-fund new social initiatives & "Wanted" places.
To create our "Wanted" Cafés we are seeking for bank loan, Community members investment (membership program) & brand partnerships (sponsoring) in addition to our own funds.
We are already using this combination of funds to create our new spaces as the new one in Paris at the end of 2020:
- 300K own funds
- between 1 to 1.2 million bank loan
- between 100K & 200K of members' investment (co-investors)
- between 100K & 200K of brand partnerships
Thanks to our social impact, notoriety, & financial results we are not excluding to:
- increase our source of incomes ("Wanted" Café opération, brand partnerships & membership program
- attract investors &/or solidarity funds interested into financially accelerate our adventure.
Our 2020 operation costs & espenses are very low (less than 200K) because we are working mainly with a strong team of volunteers. However, the whole implementation of the 3 pilars of our business model in 2021 (incomes from brand partnerships, membership program & "Wanted" Cafés operation) will probably require:
- a mentorship support
- a bigger team
as weel as an operation costs increase.
Even if we are confident on our abilities, the idea is to co-manage our operations costs increase with experimented mentors & consultant. Once more "We are stronger together" . The idea is to match our operating cost with our own financial capacities or investors capacities linked to our potential development.
So please find a sustainable plan we made few months ago. This is a very conservative approach of our financial development.
This is not an ambitious projection but a realistic one without external funds. To prepare the best we are also preparing the worst ;)
That's why this 3 years sustainable plan is based only on self-funding. Of course as previously mentioned we are litening potential investors if they respect our project values & members' expectations.
All following points could help us to transform 2021 & 2022 into successful years:
- A minimum prize of USD $300,000 spread over two years ... With this prize pool we will continue to develop our business model & reinforce our social impact without any financial pressure. Be part from a 2 year program is also very confortable. It give you sufficient time to closely work & well perform with the organization managing the program. You have the time to build a strong relationship of trust.
- Professional management and development services, mentorship and coaching, educational training, capacity building ... As we are co-building our project with our Community members & (brand) partners, we will be more delighted to co-manage our coming challenges with your team. It will strongly help us to:
- keep the trust of our Community members,
- manage our financial development & team increase
- improve our social initiatives as well as reinforce our social impact.
- A tailored media and marketing campaign aimed at amplifying their work ... It could help us to cross a step with our project in terms of international recognition. We are well know in France but our philosophy & our values could be successfully implemented everywhere.
