Kasi(community) Sport Supporter
I am Siyanda Buqa from South Africa , I am a qualified Public Management product from Cape Peninsula University of Technology. My life objectives is to realize my potential through hard work and attain excellence in all I do. i am always willing to work on my own initiative and as part of the team, being productive in any task, however humble or esteemed. I live a life of example and inspiring others in my community to achieve the same. I am the founder of Kasi Sport Supporters. Kasi Sport supporter is a non-profit company aimed at raising funds to build sport facilities in our community to reduce crime, alcohol and drugs abuse in our environment. Lot of criminal activities that involves youth take place during after school period. Kasi-sport have extra mural activities after school which includes Kasi debate team, Ekasi TV and Junior Kasi football in Philippi community.
Our vision is to minimize the socio-economic challenges such as crime, drugs and alcohol abuse through Kasi Sport and Kasi mind set programs. We want to raise enough funds to buy land so that we can build Sport facilities in townships and rural areas. We want to kill poverty in the land of our forefathers and berry it with its roots because poverty is the root of all evil. As we grow up in different townships we realized that our communities does not get as much development as they supposed to, more specially the youth of those townships and rural areas. It came to our attention as well that lot of rural areas and black townships does not have enough sport facilities and that is why lot of SA kids are all over the streets smoking drugs and robbing people. the more we utilize sport is the more we elevate humanity.
It came to our attention that lot of criminal activities that involves youth or young adults took place during after school period. Our merge role is to develop and build facilities for existing non-profit organisation in our communities for them to succeed the objective of creating extra mural activities after school in a safety and healthy environment. In our area called Monwood we have plus/minus 10 sport clubs including Philippi RCG FC with primary school called Bongolethu Primary with zero sport field/ground. Our aim is now to upgrade the existing sport facility of Bongolethu Primary School, develop our Kasi Sport Supporter brand and strengthen our marketing system. Our strategy would not only be solution to crime, alcohol and drugs abuse but to other socio-economic challenges such as Graduates unemployment, youth unemployment and Poverty in our society. Everyone in the country is worried about the hunger suffering during the lockdown of current pandemic corona virus, yet it is also a fact that the situation will not only affect the lives of Africans but the country’s economy as well.
The main objective of the organisation is to build sport facilities for both townships and rural areas. The strategic approach to achieve the vision is to work with surrounding Public schools of our targeted areas like Philippi. We form a good relationship with schools for the purpose of upgrading, developing or building their sport facilities. We currently working with two schools in Philippi area called Bongolethu Primary School and Intsebenziswano High School. Our task or Project in hand is to develop or build the artificial sport field for Bongolethu Primary School. The school has a huge space that supposed to be their sport ground but have no means to build or develop the ground. We also create extra mural activities for the affiliated schools like Bongolethu Primary. We have debate team consist of 21 learners from Bongolethu Primary. We also have Kasi Junior FC consist of 35 young boys from different schools. We also have E-Kasi TV( the aim of Kasi TV is to broadcast all the activities happening in our community such as Hustlers, Kasi school program as well as Kasi Sport activities. the aim is to give recognition to all the young hustlers of our community.
We work with different service providers in a process of grooming young entrepreneurs for the 21st century. We organised events such as workshops as means of team and capacity building for youth of our community. We work with different stakeholders in youth skill development programs. We believe that skills development is one of the fundamental tools towards youth empowerment. one of our objectives is to create extra mural activities after school that is why we have initiated programs such as sport training sessions/activities for the schools that are affiliated to Kasi Sport Supporter like Bongolethu Primary School. In the same school we have implemented Kasi debate team for the purpose of improving communication skills for the school children involved in the program. We currently have three of our Kasi Sport Supporters coaches that visit Bongolethu Primary from Monday to Friday at 14:00 to 18:00 to accomplish our school support program. Infrastructure development is what attract us the most to work with schools because our primary goal is to build sport facilities for rural areas and our disadvantage townships and most schools do have infrastructure/sport ground but just need to be developed. WE serve youth and children of poor communities.
- Elevating opportunities for all people, especially those who are traditionally left behind
Elevating for all people more specially those who are traditionally left behind is the most relevant option of The Elevate Price to my vision. Our mission is to strategically transform Sport in our disadvantage areas for the purpose of black excellence. It is to educate and bring awareness to our communities about sport ways of living and methods of making and saving money in 21st century. Is to bring financial liberation to the poor communities through Kasi Sport Supporter. Is to bring all the stakeholders together in the process of restoring the spirit of Ubuntu in Africa. Kasi means community.
This came up from the team called Monwood united from Philippi Cape Town. One of the executive members of the club(Siyanda Buqa) came up with the idea to raise funds to build sport facilities in their community and South Africa at large. Kasi Sport Supporter will not be limited by borders, everywhere in Africa this strategy will be implemented and executed. KASI Sport Supporter is not only aiming Africa but the world at large. As I grow up in different townships I realized that our communities does not get as much development as they supposed to, more specially the youth of those townships and rural areas. I realized that some of the merge challenges of South African townships are poverty and lack of financial knowledge which leads to crime, teenage pregnancy, drugs and alcohol abuse. It came to my attention as well that lot of rural areas and black townships does not have enough sport facilities and that is why lot of SA kids are all over the streets smoking drugs and robbing people. When i finished my (B-Tech) degree in Public Management on 2013 I always knew that i have a passion to serve my community.
I love Sport , I love my community and I always wanted to be part of those who lead the generation of problem solvers that is why I am passionate about this project. Siyanda BUQA the founder of Kasi Sport define Sport Supporter as a person who loves sport with his heart. It can be a player, it can be a coach, it can be a manager, it can be a fan, and it can be anyone. Kasi Sport Supporter is the solution towards poverty and lack of financial knowledge which leads to crime, teenage pregnancy, drugs and alcohol abuse. The youth of the townships i serve love sport very much , they even train next to public roads because of lack of sport facilities.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
Through my years of tertiary institution as well as my years in the working field starting from 2012 as Admin Assistant at McDonalds up until Administration clerk at SAPS I have gain knowledge , theory and experience of various policies and departmental regulatory framework such as Public service Act, Employment Equity Act, Knowledge of the Public Service Regulatory Framework, Extensive knowledge of various filing systems, Knowledge of Office and Business Administration, Knowledge and Understanding of departmental Legislations and Prescripts ,Knowledge of Public Finance Management Act (PFMA) , Knowledge of Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS, Government Employee Pension Fund (GEPF), Human Resource Legislations and Knowledge of Skills Development Act, Project and Knowledge Management, Recruitment and selection process, Treasury Regulations, knowledge of Basic Accounting System, Asset Management, budgeting, banking, financial administrations and Supply Chain Management. Working at SAPS also gave me the opportunity to be familiar to Knowledge of the Immigration Act, Refugees Act and Criminal Procedure Act. The constitution of the Republic of South Africa and the Batho Pele principles is what guide me to service excellence in all departments that I have worked for and those that I am still going to be part of them in the near future. Being the founder of the non-profit company called Kasi Sport Supporter identify my courage and enthusiasm towards my leadership skills.
One of the biggest challenges i ever face is to work with different football clubs of my community. Most of the community football clubs does not want to comply and most of them are comfortable with their present situation. This is a very big challenge for someone who want to better the lives of those who can sometimes do not realize the efforts. After so many times from 2018 trying to convince them with my mission i decided to make a decision as founder or vision carrier to let them go and start a new partnership with schools. by letting them go i mean to stop enforcing my vision to those who have less interest on the end results and focus on getting those who can understand my message and my vision on board. Working with schools have become more professional and more reliable to achieve my goals. And the local football clubs are now slowly following because they can see the progress i made with our local schools.
Being the founder of the non-profit company called Kasi Sport Supporter identify my courage and enthusiasm towards my leadership skills. I also volunteered at RCG church sport department and organizing committee of local sport events. I was part of the organizing team that organised annual health walk of The Revelation Church of God in 2015/2016 and 2017. It was great experience to be part of the team to host the event of such high class leaded by the great Prophet of South Africa , Prophet Zwilezwe Radebe. In 2018 I was assisting the very poor team called Monwood United team in Philippi, the team consist of different children from different backgrounds. Monwood Utd team have young boys who are involved in criminal activities and most of them were drug addicts when i joined the team. Being part of the team gave them hope because We have manage to develop the team and it started to compete in big competitions like Coca Cola Cup in the Western Cape. I was so happy that some of the young boys have stopped using drugs and others stopped criminal activities but others i still need more assistance with them.
- Hybrid of for-profit and nonprofit
My project is innovative because we do have a strategy to raise funds for our project but we lack resources (Capital, Equipment) to implement and execute our strategic plan or develop the software to raise funds to build sport facilities for disadvantage areas. Our strategy would not only be solution to crime, alcohol and drugs abuse but to other socio-economic challenges such as Graduates unemployment, youth unemployment and Poverty in our society. Everyone in the country is worried about the hunger suffering during the lock down of current pandemic corona virus, yet it is also a fact that the situation will not only affect the lives of Africans but the country’s economy as well. The first thing we could do if you can financially support this strategy is to develop an APP that will help the department to update sport people about new developments of Covid-19 within the sport department , the very same App will be utilised even after Covid-19 to update Sport people about upcoming events and other sport activities. The fundraising software that will help us to raise funds to build sport facilities for disadvantage areas and strategically rebuild the economy of Sport department will then be added on later stage. If my idea could be given a fair chance by any potential investor, leader or business man out there, we might find it reliable to be used to protect our sport economy and sport community should we face similar pandemic in the future.
My theory of change is more based on my projects long-term possible outcome. My projects outcomes in 2022 is that after completing the last level of Kasi Fund-raising strategy of KASI SPORT SUPPORTER, the vision of building sport facilities in townships and rural areas will be fulfilled. Socio-economic challenges such as crime, drugs and alcohol abuse will be minimized through mind-set programs of network marketing. There will be no poverty in land of our forefathers. There will be no football players who become broke after life of football. This is the platform that will assist South African Sport departments in ensuring that SA sport women are supported in all angles of sport. All the sport facilities will be freely accessed by the members of Kasi Sport Supporter and the youth of surrounding areas of particular sport facility. Our strategy would not only be solution to crime, alcohol and drugs abuse but to other socio-economic challenges such as Graduates unemployment, youth unemployment and Poverty in our society.
At this point Kasi(community) sport supporters will be also addressing and solving the issue of youth and SA graduates’ unemployment. The directors of Kasi sport supporters together with its management will sit with all the service providers starting from the builders of the infrastructure or Sport field in making sure that 50% of their employees are from surrounding area of the particular facility to be build. Kasi sport supporters will also make sure that 50% of graduates of particular area of kasi sport supporters facility are involved in implementing the youth programs that are to be held within the facility after the completion. All interested surrounding schools and churches will get a full access of the Kasi sport programs. All surrounding NGOs, NPOs, Local football clubs and other service providers to the community such as Active life style and RCG sport department, RCG mind-set programs are more than welcome to be part of Kasi sport supporters.

We currently Serve 60 direct children, 2 community schools (Bongolethu Primary School & Intsebenziswano High School) and 10 Local Sport clubs( Including Monwood UTD, Joburg Strikers FC, Super Eagles FC, Flamingo FC, Home Defenders FC, Bombas FC, Manchester FC, Philiphi RCG FC, Nkelekethe FC, Zone 14 FC etc. Based on the sponsorship outcomes we will be serving more than 20 schools next year in our community , Philippi, Gugulethu, and Nyanga. In the next 5 years we want to serve all the disadvantage schools from our country South Africa. In the next 10 years we planing to spread our wings to other developing African countries.
Our Kasi/Community development depends on our mind-set. In the next few years we want to at least impact the lives of all Western Cape disadvantage schools. I also decided to conduct a study/thesis on this project and complete my Masters degree in Public Management as part of my project sustainability plan. The Topic could be : THE STATE OF SPORT TRANSFORMATION IN SOUTH AFRICAN DISADVANTAGE AREAS AFTER THE 10 YEARS OF HOSTING FIFA WORLD CUP. I believe with such topic i will be able to collect more data on my project and have accreditation support to implement and execute all the findings and research recommendation. In this way i would be able to write articles about my vision and impact lot of disadvantage areas of African continent. During 2021 and 2022 I will implement Kasi Local Sport league for the disadvantage schools of Western Cape and that is where i will be collecting lot of Data for my thesis. 16 June in South Africa is the special day to remember the school children of 1976 June 16 and I am planing to use this day in the next 2 years of my masters to host a huge School tournament for Kasi/community schools of Nyanga, Gugulethu and Philippi.
Financial Support is the most dangerous barrier that could prevent me in achieving my vision. As i was studying at CPUT, I am still owing the institution plus/minus R50 000 tuition fee for my B-Tech degree. Ever since 2014 i always wanted to do my Masters but this was and still stumbling block in my way. Lot of investors in South Africa does not believe in Network Marketing strategy of doing business because they are not expose into the 21st century manners of doing business. Budget of R500 000 is what could assist me to kick start my vision and possible achieve all my projects objective for the next 5 years.
Completing this application form is one of most important plan i have ever made to overcome those barriers.
- If i could win the prize i can be able to continue with my Masters degree as one of my project sustainability plan
- I am currently looking for possible Capital for Operational purposes of Kasi Sport Supporter
- The Elevate Prize program will also assist me to develop my software to raise funds to build Sport facilities
- True education about new rules of the money is what Kasi Sport Support is going to bring in South Africa.
Bongolethu Primary School: We do our after school programs for the children of this school. We in a process of looking for sponsorship to upgrade the sport facility of Bongolethu Primary. Budget is R 7 million
Monwood United Team- We have helped the team to look for sponsorship and training purpose to prepare them for Big competitions like Coca.Cola Cup in Western Cape.
Our community development needs a strong relationship between Local Businesses, Schools, Universities, Community, (NPOs and the parents/homes, churches that are involved in youth activities, etc.) and other government department such as SAPS, education, Sport and recreation. It came to our attention that lot of criminal activities that involves youth or young adults took place during after school period. Kasi Sport Supporters is utilising that period to implement extra mural activities after school and during school hours (Currently have Kasi debate team, Ekasi TV and Junior Kasi football team). Our merge role is to develop and build facilities for existing non-profit organisation in our communities for them to succeed the objective of creating extra mural activities after school in a safety and healthy environment.
Our financial sustainability is based on our community sport fund raising strategy. Our fund raising strategy is based on marketing our vision to get more members and distribute our membership cards using the methods of network marketing.
Our product is our membership card that will allow us to get discounts from different sport shops, hotels and comp ticket. With this membership card you will earn commission every time you refer a person to our business and your cash-able incentives will be allocated to it. This will play a big role in sustaining our business and it will help us not to go around looking for funds when ever we feel like building sport facilities.
Kasi sport fund raising strategy has its own unique compensation plan that is based on referral bonus, maintenance bonus and organisational incentives. Referral bonus means an identified potion of money or compensation by the owner of a particular business/organisation to anyone who refer a customer to purchase his product or to be part of his organisation. Referral bonus is the strong point of Kasi fundraising compensation plan. First and for most let us highlight that KASI Sport Supporter membership have 3 types of packages and they all have different referral bonuses and incentives:
- Basic package
- Local package
- International package
The other way of sustaining our finances will be the hosting of tournaments and Sport events. If we start our school league we will have a budget from our Local Sport department like SAFA, Criclet SA, etc.
National Lottery Commision amount granted was R50 000($3500) on December 2019 but the organisation started to use money on January 2020. The funds were used to develop the brand of the organisation e.g Website development and bought Kasi TV production equipment. Kasi TV help us to advertise and market our work, it is a very relevant program in the days of 4th Industrial revolution. We also use the remaining to get food for our 60 children we serve.
The funds displayed in the following table are the funds we currently need as the grant to startup our idea. We would also be happy to get assistance in our big project of building Bongolethu Primary School Sport facility. I came up with a solution to work as collaborated team with all interested stakeholders to formulate a platform such as KASI SPORT SUPPORTER to liberate all the lovers of the sport financially, and make what they like work for them. This simple means I am looking for any kind of partnership starting from mentoring from those who are already exposed into the industry.
I define Sport Supporter as a person who loves sport with his heart. It can be a player, it can be a coach, it can be a manager, it can be a fan, and it can be anyone even a Sponsor. As my vision is internship based vision , meaning that i am planing to employ lot of graduates and distribute lot of learner-ship to unemployed youth of our community so i will need lot of training and coaching, Monitoring and evaluation and legal matters.
Any Legal Organisation with similar values or vision of empowering disadvantage areas. SOLVE organisation is my way to go right now.
