Liluye: A Sustainable Social Enterprise
Jill is a Mentoring Coach and World Pulse Ambassador, as well as a graphic/fashion designer, and highly sensitive empath with over 30 years experience as an executive assistant and creative director. She has a MA in Publications Design, working across a broad spectrum of industries.
She has mentored numerous World Pulse girls and women to help them develop their personal, professional, and entrepreneurial skills. This is her purpose and passion, to creatively support and empower girls and women globally.
My passion organization, Liluye,
combines ethical fashion with compassion. Our mission is to create
innovative, sustainable, ethnic, exceptionally, handmade products that
will help trafficked survivors to reintegrate back into society by
teaching them a viable trade and by providing them with income.
We’re committed to:
• Empowering trafficked warriors through a shared vision of peace
• Always being honest, authentic and transparent
• Practicing infinite kindness and compassion to all human beings and our planet
• Choosing love and making a difference in as many lives as possible
• Inspiring through diversity and creativity
• Living each day courageously
• Supporting open collaboration
Liluye’s mission is to create exceptional, sustainable, ethnic, handmade accessories that will empower trafficked survivors globally to reintegrate back into society by teaching them a viable trade and providing them with good income. All products/processes will be sustainable, focusing on circularity.
We will elevate humanity by empowering as many trafficked warriors as possible through access to, or provision of, a holistic, reintegration program. We will network with other anti-trafficking/Fairtrade organizations, educating consumers and visitors alike on trafficking, prevention, resources, ethical standards, sustainability and ways to get involved, thus reducing anti-trafficking as a whole to end it.
Liluye’s primary goal is to address SDG 5.2, to eliminate all forms of violence against all women and girls in the public and private spheres, including trafficking and sexual and other types of exploitation. Our secondary goals are to address SDG 8, to provide decent work and economic growth for all, and SDG 13, to provide sustainable products that are not only sustainable, but circular in their supply chain.
According to the 2018 Global Slavery Index, there were 40.3 million people in modern-day slavery in 2016, including 24.9 million in forced labor and 15.4 million in forced marriage.
Because human trafficking is such a prevalent, growing epidemic, there is a real urgency to not only help provide more awareness, prevention, resources, and training around trafficking but also to provide much needed training, empowerment, income and shelter for trafficked survivors. According to a 2016 report, there is an estimated 4.8 million people, mainly women and children, that were trafficked in the commercial sex trade.
And, according to Wordstream.com, 92% of Millennial consumers are more likely to buy products from ethical companies, and 82% of those consumers believe ethical brands outperform similar companies that lack a commitment to ethical principles.
Liluye, or “Singing Hawk While Soaring,” creates innovative, sustainable, ethnic, exceptional, handmade products that help trafficked survivors to be empowered and to reintegrate back into society by teaching them a viable trade and providing them with good income. Our products are proudly created by and for people with Great Spirit.
The products are all handmade, sustainable products sold online via our social enterprise, https://liluye.org/. All products will be produced by sustainable resources such as Hemp, Stinging Nettle fibers, coffee ground fibers, pineapple fabric, banana and Lotus fibers.
Our integrity stands behind our brand and products. All our products are sustainable/circular with personal backstories on the warrior women in the artisanal workshops, and also educates visitors on trafficking, prevention, resources, and ways to get involved in the anti-trafficking/slavery cause.
It is our goal to create many workshops for trafficked survivors, because there is a real need for training, empowerment, income, mental healthcare, and shelter. Our goal is to create safe havens for girls and women worldwide, bring even more awareness and preventive measures to help end trafficking and modern slavery. Together we can help create a better and safer world for everyone and empower girls and women at the same time.
Directly, the trafficked women and will benefit from the program, as well as people globally, as we plan to network with other anti-trafficking organizations to bring about the biggest impact possible (educating consumers and visitors alike on trafficking, prevention, resources, our work, ethical standards, sustainability and ways to get involved in the anti-trafficking cause), reducing anti-trafficking as a whole by collaborating together to end it.
Also, the environment will benefit, too, as the products will be sustainable and environmentally friendly, recyclable and/or biodegradable. Every single aspect of our products’ construction and supply chain is ethical, Fairtrade, vegan and fully thought out.
The target audience for e-commerce would be primarily female consumers who are either heart-based clients or advocates for the cause that love exceptional, innovative, sustainable, ethnic, original, hand-crafted products, or simply love contributing to the cause to impact the lives of the artisanal women, and beyond, by helping to create more save havens/workshops for other women and by helping to eradicate trafficking.
- Elevating issues and their projects by building awareness and driving action to solve the most difficult problems of our world
Liluye’s concept and mission are innovative, to create exceptional, circular products from global, sustainable workshops that provide training, holistic resources, and a good income for trafficked warriors. The founder is an activist who is a very active Ambassador and Mentoring Coach on WorldPulse.com, a global online sisterhood, and is proactive problem-solver, passionate about empowering women/girls, and actively solving problems associated with trafficking and empowerment.
Our goal is to build a collaborative social enterprise that creates global communities, to catalyze positive change, and to empower women to reintegrate back into society; to thrive and realize their own, unique mission and dream(s).
I have always been a compassionate feminist who believes in equal rights for everyone. My own personal history of abuse has enabled me to be extremely empathetic toward others who have suffered, or who are suffering. It has also made me determined to make a difference in this world.
Even though I had been following World Pulse since 2009, I actually signed up to encourage after I had moved to Spain in 2015. At that time I was actively looking for a way to finally make a bigger impact in the world, and that’s when I started wholeheartedly encouraging/mentoring women from around the world. That’s also when I met Awah Francisca Mbuli, from Cameroon, who runs and anti-trafficking NGO. It’s also when I started thinking more about what I wanted to create in this world, and when I created my initial, Liluye business plan and portfolio (October, 2018), with Awah and Vweta Chadwick, a Nigerian World Pulse sister who has an anti-trafficking NGO.
My personal goal, and legacy, is to empower as many girls and women as possible in this lifetime… to create safe havens for them, worldwide… where kindness, love, compassion, joy, sustainability, and empowerment are a priority.
I’m passionate about Liluye because I have a dream; a vision where all beings and living organisms live in harmony…. everyone lives in peace, and balance has been restored to the planet. Women and men, alike, embrace all their feminine and masculine traits; or even better, we seriously challenge what we have all been taught to believe are feminine or masculine characteristics. Women and girls are loved, cherished, thriving, speaking up, assertive, and men are equally loved, cherished, thriving and speaking up. There is no hate, prejudice, comparison, competition or judgment for anyone’s cultural, religious, sexual, or racial differences. In fact, we embrace and celebrate all these differences. There is only peace, love, harmony and joy!
We are all so conditioned to believing there is only fear, hate, war, and men in positions of power. All that it would take is faith, trust, and a change in our collective belief system and perceptions. Anything is possible!
Let’s inspire and empower women and girls to go after their dreams, despite any obstacles, thus creating more equality, compassion, kindness, balance, and peace in their world, and collectively for the good of all.
Jill is a World Pulse Ambassador and Encourager Mentor, as well as a graphic/fashion designer, and highly sensitive empath with over 30 years experience as an executive assistant and creative director. She has a MA in Publications Design, working across a broad spectrum of industries.
I have mentored numerous World Pulse girls and women to help them develop their personal, professional, and entrepreneurial skills. I have helped empower girls and women of all ages, providing overall guidance and support, sending funding and job resources to them, connecting them with other members, listening to them and ensuring they feel heard, helping them with technical and writing assistance for story calls, writing recommendation letters, and encouraging them to always be authentic and to follow their dreams. This is my purpose and passion, to creatively support and empower girls and women globally.
My direct, but personable and approachable style enables others to be encouraged, inspired, and challenged to achieve their own goals and dreams. I help with marketing and branding, self care, personal development, networking, organization, self promotion, and goal setting and achievement.
Among my top mentoring accolades are helping members out of depression, encouraging members to apply for the Ambassador program and to submit their stories, and informing and encouraging members to attend conferences/fellowships.
During childhood I endured various sexual, mental, and physical abuse. I always was a deep thinker, and knew that I wanted to make a difference, too.
During undergraduate school, and for about 15 years after that, before I realized I had a purpose, I felt numb, lost, and unfulfilled. I went back to school to pursue my Masters in graphic design to honor my childhood, creative passion. Then, I finally realized that I had chosen all of my family, friends, lessons, circumstances, thoughts, and beliefs.
It’s taken awhile to overcome the majority of the mental and associated physical challenges associated with my abusive background. Numerous times I was told I was too sensitive, that I worried too much, or that I needed to develop a thicker skin, especially in the corporate world.
Being an empath, I’ve learned the importance of being compassionate and sensitive. I still have moments where I’m angry and feel like a victim, but luckily I learned that doesn’t work for me. Now, feel more alive, healthier, and more purposeful than I ever have before, and I’m excited about the future, Liluye, and infinite possibilities. I’m a confident, driven, compassionate leader now.
I started encouraging for World Pulse (a global, online sisterhood) in 2016.
I take this role very seriously. I feel that every person that writes in this community has the right to be heard. As a result of my dedicated passion, I was recognized for my leadership capabilities and offered an opportunity to become a paid Encourager, and then last year, to become an Encourager Mentor and Ambassador.
I support everyone as much as I possibly can, whether it’s finding collaborators, resources, encouragement, mentorship, graphic design, proposal help, or sharing their fundraiser or latest initiative.
Last January, they ran their first ever Spirit Awards. I received the highest total nominations, 30, and my boss, Dawn, wrote, “It is so clear that you live the values of our community beautifully: She lifts up those around her. She speaks out for what she believes. She listens with empathy and without judgment. She seeks personal transformation. She is trustworthy. She is a connector. She uses technology, and she is passionate about making a difference.”
In April, Dawn offered me a mentoring coach role, that was created for me, to help develop/lead, their new mentorship program that launches this August for 15 mentees.

Because there isn’t a website like Liluye that exists that combines innovative, sustainable fashion accessories with compassion, as well as providing viable trades and income for girls and women, and because human trafficking is such a prevalent, growing epidemic, I believe there is a real urgency to not only help provide more awareness, prevention, resources, and training around trafficking but also to provide much needed training, empowerment, income and shelter for trafficked survivors.
Liluye would be similar to the hugely successful TOMS shoe website, in this aspect.
At Liluye, our integrity stands behind our brand and products. Our website will sell all sustainable and/or recyclable products with personal backstories on the warrior women in the artisanal workshops but it will also educate visitors on trafficking, prevention, resources, and ways to get involved in the anti-trafficking/slavery cause. We will ensure all communications are honest and trustworthy in order to build the strongest relationships with all our visitors, consumers and partners who share a set of common values based on our collective ethical and environmental standards. After all, this is the backbone and reason behind our organization, mission, values and brand.
The short term would include knowledge, skills, attitudes, and motivations. Medium term would relate to consumer attitudes, trends, and behaviors toward sustainability of employees and circular products/supply chain. And long-term change would ultimately affect the environment, hopefully social and economic conditions for the warrior artisans, and even potentially political conditions as Liluye becomes more recognized as an industry leader forging real collaboration and change to end modern slavery and to empower and reintegrate the women back into society.
Also, the environment will benefit, too, as the products will be sustainable and environmentally friendly, recyclable and/or biodegradable. Every single aspect of our products’ construction and supply chain is ethical, Fairtrade, vegan and fully thought out.
And, since there are there are at least 40.3 million people in modern-day slavery, of which women and girls comprise 71%, and statistically, modern slavery is most prevalent in Africa, followed by Asia and the Pacific, Liluye is in a pretty good position to affect 1/3 or potentially even half of these survivors once fully implemented.
In the future, we will create more workshops, globally, because, unfortunately, there are a lot of girls and women who desperately need training, empowerment, income, and shelter.
I plan to use yearly, e-commerce sales and the amount of revenue created by the trafficked women artisans for the quantitative measurement, and for the qualitative measurement, it will be how many trafficked women’s lives, in total, have been impacted through training and income.

My Liluye project is really part of a bigger vision…
I have a dream; a vision where all beings and living organisms live in harmony…. everyone lives in peace, and balance has been restored to the planet.
There would be no competition. And everyone would know there is always plenty of time, love, resources, talent and opportunities to go around. Little by little, we can be the difference.
For scaling up Liluye, we plan to achieve our goals through actively embracing the Liluye values:
• We are empowered warriors with a shared vision of peace and empowerment
• We are always honest and authentic
• We practice infinite kindness and compassion
• We choose love… make a difference
• We inspire through diversity and creativity
• We live each day courageously
• Embracing open collaboration
We plan to collaborate with as many organizations that share the Liluye values, especially those that are blazing a trail to empower as many women and girls as possible already, and who are actively helping to end modern slavery globally.
I need the following to grow Liluye in the next year, and beyond:
1. Funding for employee salaries, workshop set up fees, i.e., supply chain, set up e-commerce website, product trainers, B certification fees.
2. Financial and legal advisors who have expertise in start-ups and realistic budgeting guidelines to create a successful organization, specifically salaries, machinery, legal forms, etc.
3. Sales and Marketing:
⁃ Pre-production, fashion expert who specializes in branding, merchandising, advertising, demographics, preliminary goals, such as initial quantities, styles, sourcing (screen printer, eco materials), etc.
⁃ Web development/maintenance for an engaging, solid e-commerce website that is informative and enticing to people passionate about the cause and fashionistas.
⁃ Product photographer(s).
⁃ Social media expert who will maintain and grow FB, LinkedIn and Instagram pages.

⁃ Fair Trade expert to ensure optimum standards for manufacturing/production process of these handmade shoes with organic banana fabric.
⁃ Unconventional materials expert, specifically banana fabric... what to expect, best practices, best products such as eco-glues, stiffeners, etc.
5. Product trainers for shoes, bags, etc.
6. Ongoing mentors/experts who can help us with start up, roll out, logistics, or additional support along the way as the organization grows.
7. Consultants to help easily grow and scale the company culture, marketing, sales, impact, and overall business model, keeping the Liluye values upheld.
1. Get a grant, Elevate Prize, or enough sales from the website: Funding for employee salaries, workshop fees.
2. Get a grant, Elevate monetary or networking experts: Financial and legal advisors who have expertise in start-ups and realistic budgeting guidelines to create a successful organization, specifically salaries, machinery, legal forms, etc.
3. Get a grant, Elevate monetary or networking experts: Sales/Marketing:
⁃ Pre-production, fashion expert who specializes in branding, merchandising, advertising, demographics, preliminary goals, such as initial quantities, styles, sourcing (screen printer, eco materials), etc.

5. Have some leads for this in some locations, but could use Elevate networking experts: Product trainers for shoes, bags, etc.
6. Have some leads for this in some locations, but could use Elevate networking experts: Ongoing mentors/experts who can help us with start up, roll out, logistics, or additional support along the way as the organization grows.
7. Have some leads for this in some locations, but could use Elevate networking experts: Consultants to help easily grow and scale the company culture, marketing, sales, impact, and overall business model.

Currently, I’ve been starting to highlight, and intend to continue to highlight the anti-trafficking work that each of these organizations are doing on the Liluye Facebook and LinkedIn pages. I have a few others in the pipeline, too, that I’m planning on adding soon.
I also intend to work with most, if not all, in the future, as potential Liluye workshops, to include their sustainable, hand made products on our online marketplace, and to give back to the warrior artisans at each one so they can learn new trades and have gainful employment. Some of them, like CCARHT and Atipsom, are good connections for learning more about the latest trends in anti-trafficking prevention, resources, and events.
• Embracing open collaboration
We plan to collaborate with as many organizations that share the Liluye values, especially those that are blazing a trail to empower as many women and girls as possible already, and who are actively helping to end modern slavery globally.
At Liluye, we don’t intend to rely on grants and donations. Initially it would be nice to have one or the other, or both, to set up a solid foundation for Liluye but once the marketplace, foundation, processes and procedures are solidly in place, I don’t anticipate a need to rely on them after that is in place.
For operating strategy, we will create a solid internal organizational structure, comprising expert mentors, Board of Directors, and flexible/smart employees who are up for the task to build Liluye into a successful and impactful global enterprise. We will also pool on excellent, external partnerships that have already been established, and will continue to be established through connections on World Pulse, LinkedIn, and through word of mouth.

- Marketing, media, and exposure
Collaboration and prevention are key to ending modern slavery and the more funding, networking, mentors and experts Liluye can get, the more impact we can make directly in the lives of the girls and women warriors that are in the workshops, but also in the businesses they create, and the more workshops we can create to provide even more training, income and a wider network of global awareness, prevention and collaboration. This will change the warriors’ and communities’ attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors.
It’s also a main, Liluye goal to provide holistic freedom for the warrior artisans, meaning they will all be provided with mental health counseling, economic training to create their own businesses, as well as trade training so that can be reintegrated into society successfully, and to heal from the trauma inflicted on them.
Liluye would like to partner, and collaborate with as many organizations worldwide that share the Liluye values because we believe the more collaborative effort, the greater the impact on everyone toward creating a free, secure world where everyone is empowered:
• We are empowered warriors with a shared vision of peace and empowerment
• We are always honest and authentic
• We practice infinite kindness and compassion
• We choose love… make a difference
• We inspire through diversity and creativity
• We live each day courageously
The organizations that we believe share our values that would be excellent to collaborate/partner with are the following:
• The Polaris Project
• A21
• Stop the Traffic
• Love146
• Shared Hope
• International Justice Mission
• Hope for Justice
• Cast LA
• The Freedom Fund
