Cirlex System Solar Powered Water Supply
Edwin Joseph is a Cirlex system co-founder,began his career and passion for renewable energy as a sop home in collage. His passion for renewable energy industry and his love for the community make him launch cirlex system ltd which support sustainable growth of off-grid community by supplying them with safe water from source to tap using sun connected directly to a pump which displaced water using renewable energy easily available direct to elevated water tank or water buffer which will provide required amount of pressure for reverse osmosis process to produce fresh clean water with zero energy cost and extremely low maintenance cost. He acquires post-graduate degree in Business Administration at the Institute of Finance Management Dar es salaam and he believes that water and energy sustains all life on planet. While Water and Energy are in a way inseparable; without energy, it is nearly impossible to put water into use.
Over 25 million people in Tanzania today lack access to clean and safe water, they spend hours every day walking to collect water for their family, not only does walking for water keep children out of school or take up time that parents could be using to earn money but water often carries diseases.Cirlex System cares about offering an affordable and life changing solar powered water supply accessible at the last mile to low income communities who need it most.We use of photo-voltaic panel to generate electricity to operate water pump that has greatly reduced operating cost and increase pump performance instead of hand pumps and generators which are cost full and environment unfriend. We have reduced time and distance women and kids used to walk to obtain water, kids attend to school while expanding their knowledge and pursue new opportunities.Improves health, empower women as women are responsible for water collection in Sub Saharan Africa
Access to safe and clean drinking water is a big problem in the world today caused by poor access to safe source of water; over 800 Million people don’t have access to safe drinking water that’s nearly 1 in 10 people worldwide. Only 57 percent of Tanzania's population of 57 million has access to an improved source of safe water that’s over 25 million people, almost one out of every two persons and the scarcity is increasing. Although Tanzania is blessed with the largest lakes and rivers in Africa, two third of its area lies in semi-arid areas with seasonal river flows. In these areas the main source of water is groundwater where boreholes has been drilled and fitted with hand pumps and petrol or diesel generators. Water system are not designed to meet the need of the users, hand pumps are not convenient as they take hours to collect few gallon. Also the use of diesel generator are costly and many boreholes left abandoned causing villagers to resort hand dug wells, ponds and rivers which are not safe and far.Due to the vast geographic dispersion, women and girls often have to travel long distances, consuming over many hours to fetch water.
We are improving source of safe water which were abandoned due to high running cost of diesel generators or insufficient water supply due to depth of the borehole where the groundwater level may be too low to be reached by traditional hand pumps with solar powered operating pumping system. We develop, redeveloped or rehabilitate abandoned boreholes and insure that water flow for years is safe, clean, reliable and affordable. We integrate Water pump with the Solar System,Sun directly power a water pump during a day from the underground source to the elevated water reservoir which provide required amount of pressure for filtration process to produce and supply fresh clean water with zero energy cost and extremely low maintenance cost. Both water transmission system and water distribution system are networks of pipes.Water supply to the tapping points of consumers may be direct or indirect, sufficient pressure is required to deliver total solutions for manual or automated water kiosks builds on intelligent water ATM's that enable stable revenue streams for financially viable water services.Intelligent water ATM's require no more than connection to a solar powered water supply or existing water supply network, data exchange through a mobile phone, water management system where data from transactions and operations are processed and published.
We serve women and children who are in off grid communities, schools, churches, healthy centers and farmers lacking access to clean water. We have reduced time and distance women and kids used to walk to obtain water, attending schools give kids a chance to expand their knowledge and pursue new opportunities. Clean water improves health, empower women as women are responsible for the water collection in Sub Saharan Africa. Cost savings as people will spend less on public health and also, there shall be a reduction in the spread of waterborne diseases. Boost economies as women and parents could have enough time to grow food and engage in other activities to earn money. Implementation of the Program will contribute towards the eradication of poverty and contribute towards meeting of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).Women and girls will get their life back and start businesses improve their homes and take charge on their own future. We provide training and employment on managing water kiosk while working with local government, experts and communities to develop services which generate revenue whilst reaching the most vulnerable rural residents, and we advise regulators and governments on how to create an environment which enables communities to succeed.
- Elevating issues and their projects by building awareness and driving action to solve the most difficult problems of our world
We have impacts on people’s lives beyond the expected improvements to health and reduction in time spent collecting water, also improvements in household income levels and security of livelihoods. Increasing school attendance occurs along with better child care, social and cultural benefits such as reductions in stress levels, increasing status and self-esteem, better family and community relations, and increasing ability to observe religious rites and customs. Involving community members in evaluations of their own projects brings new insights into both the wider impacts of interventions and the factors contributing to the long term sustainability of water supply and sanitation systems
The inspiration came from the dreams of having running water for my family as I grew up from a poor family with no running water and electricity in Moshi rural,Kilimanjaro Region. We used to work up with my mother at 5 am heading to River-Rau for approximately one hour with heavy Jerry cane of river water it could take two hour journey back home which affect our time and the only chore we end-up doing is fetching water, water that isn’t safe to drink, wash or cook. My mother started to suffer from chronicles back pain caused by fetching water,a task so cruel that leave soars on her back. Many women and kids faced the same problem in our society,as it’s a dream for many kids to have clean water and go to school also many families to stay away from illness,i decide to look for the best solution to provide rural communities with their first access to clean water.I moved from Moshi to Nyakasangwe-Dar es salaam where there is neither electricity nor running water and decide to fulfill my dreams by drilling a borehole and install solar powered pumping system which is now supplying water to 30 household and more than 300 people.
I am passionate about solving the water crisis in my lifetime with vision and belief in leading by example and bring key essence of making communities more attractive, economically stronger, and cultural rich.I decide to use my knowledge, skills, technical and economic experience to make sure communities have sufficient access to clean, safe and affordable water using solar energy. Also nature of the business calm me down and make me see the future very bright in terms of innovation, digital transformation, knowledge management, collaboration, employees engagement and the team work which are all critical to business today. Being part of the community gives me a chance to learn, lead and grow because it's a place where you have to work hard, have fun and make impact. Rural areas particular are generally very poor with around one third of the rural population classified as living below poverty line while demand for both water and sanitation are high, water use has been growing more than twice the rate of the population increase creating a huge gap between water demand and water supply. We have managed to identified over 100 boreholes abandoned in each Tanzania Districts and regions, due to high cost of diesel fuel and maintenance of electric generators.
I bring a sense of purpose to my team to feel like they have to work for the sake of working and motivate them to belong to something bigger than themselves.I make sure they understand the bigger goals, the impact of a project, their role and the input they have towards accomplish departmental goals. As assistant manager I insure that work is being completed in a timely and effective manner, two weeks’ time to complete a water project in a high standard and cost saving. As a social enterprise looking to provide infrastructure and treatment for water before delivering to the communities I learned that working effectively with people in cooperating manner as a team brings positive impact and improve their ability to perform. What’s really crucial for me when starting one is to get very clear on the goals right at the start and then create a plan with milestones.I also like dealing with the most difficult parts of the projects early, on that way in case there are any significant issues,I’ll still have a nice amount of time to complete before the deadline.I also typically break down large tasks into smaller chunks,so that it is easier to know where to start.Detailed planning is very important to ensure water project goes smoothly while creating a list of all possible risks that might stop us from reaching our milestones.I also make sure that my role and responsibilities in the project were as clear as possible so I knew exactly what I had to do.
One day while working as assistant manager at Cirlex System,I was working with two of my colleagues to meet a deadline on a proposal we were drafting. They could not agree with each other on how to approach the proposal and the deadline was near,it was obvious we need a to work better as a team so invited them both to lunch where we were able to openly discuss the details of the project, allowing both of them to hear the full scope of each other’s plans.Having lunch together gave them the opportunity to see that they both had similar visions of the big picture but disagreed about smaller, less important details. After hearing both of their plans we made a single list using the best and most efficient ideas that we all agreed on. In the end we ended up drafting one solid proposal that was under budget, making our client very happy. It turned out that afterward the two worked together even more producing some of the best projects we had in my time with the company.I feel that the experience help me improve my ability to collaborate and work as an integral part of a team, while growing in my leadership skills as well
I completed the company work project with other working mate, where our task was to plan on how we will beat darkness and provide clean safe drinking water which is affordable, reliable and sustainable using solar energy solution to meat the need of off-grid communities in Tanzania. i took responsibility for organizing and coordinating all the activities but working capital was a problem. I decide to borrow money from the Bank as personal loan using the collateral i have to be able fund the project for a period of 3 years while looking for other ways to repay my loan and manage to facilitate the initial capital we needed and all other things that was required while encouraging all working mate to work as a team focusing on helping the communities. We manage to drill a borehole of 126 mt and fit with solar powering pumping system that has been able to supply water to more than 450 people with clean and safe drinking water while we distributing the energy remain in our system reserved through batteries and provide electric energy to nearby communities household surrounding the solar water plant hence improving their living condition and their productivity
