The world is a beautiful place and its worth living to the fullest but loneliness, depression and suicide are gradually taking away the worth of life. DAMOBSA aims to uplift people from depressing moods by offering personal experiences so that they can look at things from a different perspective, take unconventional approaches in solving their problems and realise the importance of life and why it is worth living. This will reduce suicidal tendencies and ultimately boost their general productivity.
Loneliness, depression and suicide are on the rise as a result crisis, financial problems, relationship breakups, abuse, loss of loved ones and/or chronic illnesses. Loneliness leads to depression and depression can either lead to suicide, high blood pressure, HBP or cardiovascular diseases, CVDs. Loneliness is the highest cause of HBP in Nigeria, which has the highest occurrence of mortality in the country. Nigeria is ranked 15th in the world for suicide. Former Surgeon General of the United States, Vivek Murthy, wrote in a Harvard Business Review article that, "Loneliness is a growing health epidemic". A recent report by the Jo Cox Commission in the United Kingdom shows that about 14% of the population are often lonely. The American Psychological Association says up to 40% of Americans suffer from chronic loneliness. This is a public health concern that led the UK government to recently create the office of Minister of Loneliness. It affects both the physical and mental health of people across demographics, including young kids, teens and adults. Findings by researchers at the University of York, England, show that loneliness and depression increases the risk of CVDs by 29%, while increasing the risk of stroke by 32%.

DAMOBSA is serving a global community. I have people (followers) from all over the world, most of which are from around Nigeria and the united state of America. For now, the engagement is mostly through social media and YouTube and partially through blog. My community know they are not alone in whatever challenges they are going through, they know that they have DAMOBSA by their side all the way. I believe they are getting empowered on a daily bases to make bold decisions to live their best life.
- Elevating understanding of and between people through changing people’s attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors
Human mind is divided into three, namely, conscious, unconscious and subconscious mind. The subconscious mind is very powerful, it can make or break a person. it is influenced by external information like crisis, other people's opinions, news and so on. People's attitudes, beliefs and behaviour can be changed by feeding the conscious mind with positive information which will subconsciously transform their unconscious actions. And this is the aim of DAMOBSA.
For so many years, i wanted to make a difference in peoples' lives digitally and also make money online. I though of a niche that i am passionate about and the only one i am so passionate about is motivation. DAMOBSA initially began as a motivational blog www.safiyamohammed.com in March 2018. Then, it was only blog articles, no custom made quotes, no videos. The intention was to motivate people for no profit and make revenue from google AdSense but i didn't make any revenue from it and when it was time to renew the domain hosting in early 2019, i had no money to renew it. That was how the beginning ended. Later in 2019, i learnt how to make 3D animation. So i thought, okay, i can use animated pictures to make quotes. I use Canva application to make the quotes. That was how Daily Motivation By Safiya fully started. At some point, my followers engagements reduced drastically so i stopped using the animated pictures to make the quotes. All along, i have been using my resources and up until this moment, i have not started making any revenue. I guess i am still watering my bamboo tree.
I am very passionate about DAMOBSA because i want to give people what i didn't get growing up. I grew up lonely. I practically mentally raised myself. I was sexually harassed, i attempted suicide, i never saw the beauty in life, i just wanted to die. Until early 2017 when i joined a certain WhatsApp group, i can't remember the name because i wasn't there for long but it helped me. I want to help people as much as i can with my motivation so they don't go through what i went through.
I have skill in digital marketing. My motivational skill is natural and also from experiences. I know what loosing the only person that loves you feels like, i know what been left behind feels like, i know what been broke feels like, i know how it feels not to have moral, emotional and financial support from your family, i know what loneliness and depression feels like, i know what been confused about life feels like. Trust me, i am not just making it up, i went through all of those life struggles. I was confused, i was treated like i don't matter, i was even called useless. I took it upon myself that, i will try my best to bring the best out of everyone i am blessed to meet. My personal experiences uniquely position me to solve this problem. I know many people probably went through worse than i did but not many people want to help others the way i want to.
My whole adult life had been an adversity i am still overcoming. I am a graduate of chemical engineering, i graduated ten (10) years ago, April 2010 and i just got a job with my certificate March 2020, my salary per month, is less than 100USD. In between those ten long years, was a confused young woman, that begged families and friends money to eat, that was verbally, physically and emotionally abused, that tried every opportunities that came her way just to make few Naira (NGN) and that always give others out of the little she has. Despite living from hand to mouth and battling a heart disease, i never let any of my past negative experiences to hold me back. Yes, at some point, i wanted to take my own life but ever since i took a turning point, i never looked back. I am using all those negativities as a motivation and reasons to move forward and help others.
As an undergraduate at Federal University of Technology, Minna. Nigeria, i was my class representative for the duration of my course, five (5) years. I recently led a team of eight (8) during an ideathon, #africavsvirus, in April 2020. A 72 hours online idea marathon to come up with different ways to tackle the effect of corona virus disease in vulnerable communities. Though our proposed idea didn't make top 100 out of 750 ideas.
