How could your project elevate humanity
The Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance Systems shall be used to measures six categories of priority health behaviors among youth in order to solve Illicit behaviors..
What project are you proposing?Youth Behavior Risk Prevention
How could your project elevate humanity
. The pressure, often on oneself or from others, to be perfect may causes feelings of inadequacies. These young people are considered to be at high risk for suicidal behavior because they are the targets of a great deal of victimization.
. Youth who constantly struggle to understand concepts that are easily understood by others can become depressed and feel defeated. These young people appear to have no social or emotional support systems..
.Feelings of worthless, shame, overwhelming guilt, self-hatred, “everyone would be better off without me.”90% of those who complete suicide suffer from undiagnosed and treatable mental health issues.
SPECIFIC PROBLEMS THAT ARE BEING SOLVED.
1. Behaviors that contribute to unintentional injuries and violence;
2. Sexual behaviors related to unintended pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV infection;
3. Alcohol and other drug use; tobacco use;
4. Unhealthy dietary behaviors.
THE SCALE OF THE PROBLEM IN MY COMMUNITY
Depression, mental illness and substance abuse
One of the most telling risk factors for youth is mental illness. Mental or addictive disorders are associated with 90% of suicides.
Aggression and fighting
Recent research has identified a connection between interpersonal violence and suicide.
Home environment
Within the home, a lack of cohesion, high levels of violence and conflict, a lack of parental support and alienation from and within the family.
Community environment
Youth with high levels of exposure to community violence are at serious risk for self-destructive behavior.
School environment
Youth who are struggling with classes, perceive their teachers as not understanding them or caring about them, or have poor relationships with their peers have increased vulnerability.
Previous attempts
Youth who have attempted suicide are at risk to do it again.
Cultural factors
Changes in gender roles and expectations, issues of conformity and assimilation, and feelings of isolation and victimization .
Behavioral Health Youth Prevention
The main component of this project is implementing one of the evidence-based practices (EBPs) in either school or community settings. There are some additional required activities that support successful implementation of the identified intervention and promote prevention broadly in the identified settings.
Behavioral Health Youth Prevention program provides selective prevention services for youth that preclude the onset of the use of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs (ATOD) and fosters the development of social and physical environments that promote healthy and drug-free lifestyles. Activities target subgroups of the general population that are determined to be at-risk for substance abuse. Toward No Drug Use, Strengthening Families, and Positive Action curriculum available.
Because of the individualized and complex needs of runaway and homeless youth, one way to help youth address their behavioral health needs is through intensive case management. This can help youth navigate the health care system and understand how to fulfill their health care needs. A study of youth in Zambia who received intensive case management found that they had fewer externalizing behaviors, less aggression, and a higher quality of life rating compared to those who received the normal treatment.
Behavioral Health Youth Prevention program is designed to prevent or interrupt the use of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs (ATOD) by youth and young adults who are showing early warning signs of substance use and/or exhibiting other at-risk problem behaviors.
Behavioral Health Youth Prevention program enhances the behavioral health and wellness of individuals, families, and communities through:
• The promotion of behavioral health and wellness prevention, early intervention, treatment, and recovery;
• The creation and leadership of an integrated network of providers that promotes universal access to comprehensive, data-driven services; and
• Advocacy and leadership of behavioral health-related efforts to align resources, programs, and policy.
Behavioral Health Youth Prevention program is committed to promoting behavioral health equity in Zambia by ensuring that the behavioral health provider network is culturally and linguistically responsive to the diverse populations served; reducing behavioral health care access barriers for populations known to experience discrimination and marginalization; and supporting communities directly to develop services that are responsive to their unique strengths and needs.
- Elevating understanding of and between people through changing people’s attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors
Strategies to improve mental health and prevent self-harming behavior and suicide relates to the object of the Elevate Prize through the following:
- providing safe and supportive environments, particularly through affirming relationships with family and peers;
- enacting legislation to protect the safety youths;
- re-evaluating institutional practices that undermine positive child and youth development; and
- building community awareness and capacity to understand and address stressors that LGBT youth may experience. For both school-based and community-based strategies, selected organizations will be required to participate in ongoing data evaluation as well as a data retreat for the final evaluation of the project.
DUE TO THE EMINENT INCIDENCE OF CRIMES IN THE COMMUNITY . A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE BEEN EITHER GASSED OR MURDEREF FOR RITUAL KILLING PURPOSES.
Through the Observance of Higher Risk Groups I conducted a research and came up with the following:
Youth suicide is a serious, national health problem affecting our young people today. Although there is really no stereotypical “suicidal type” young person, the statistics on youth suicide indicate that some groups are at a higher risk for suicide than others. Suicide knows no boundaries; it occurs across all age, economic, social, and ethnic boundaries.
Females attempt suicide variations were considered, more than three times as often as males; however, males die by suicide more than four times as often as the females.
- In the age 10 to 24 group, 81% of the suicide deaths were males and 19% were females.
- Through my Cultural variation Research, i also founded that suicide rates were imminent i
- I NEED TO CHANGE THE MIND SET OF THE COMMUNITIES SO THAT THE COMMUNITY LIVES IN PEACE AND SOCIAL JUSTICE. These youth also experience higher rates of a number of psychiatric disorders (e.g., depression, anxiety, and conduct disorders) and often lack access to health and behavioral health care.
- Youth who run away or experience homelessness have higher rates of alcohol and drug use than their peers. These differences are especially apparent for illicit drug use and are higher for youth on the street compared to those in shelters.
- In general, research has considered “violence exposure” as a single phenomenon, with few studies examining the unique effects of hearing about violence, witnessing violence or being a victim of violence. These effects may also vary by age.
- Community violence does not occur in a vacuum. It often co-occurs with other types of violence. In particular, for young children the family is the primary source of violence exposure, although this exposure frequently is greater for children living in high-violence communities. Although prior studies have addressed the importance of the broader ecological context, it still is the case that most studies examine the effects of violence exposure within a single context.
ITS BECAUSE OF THE STUDIES THAT I HAVE UNDERGONE AND THE EXPERIENCES HAVE I HAVE GAINED DURING MY PROFESSION AS A LAWYER IN LITIGATION MATTERS.
Youths may be more likely to use substances to cope with bias and stress and may be more likely to experience increased rates of depression and anxiety than their non peers. Challenges such as family rejection of, or anticipated reaction to, one’s identity are also associated with substance use.
Transgender youth have a high risk for developing substance dependency issues. Transgender people have higher rates of usage for some drugs and may have higher rates of methamphetamine, injectable drug, and tobacco usage. Additionally, transgender youth face more barriers to accessing behavioral health care.
Reducing the rates of bias, discrimination, and victimization that youths experience can help reduce substance use. A related strategy includes creating safe spaces for youths in drug-free environments such as community centers. Also, accepting/positive family behaviors toward youths during adolescence can protect against not only suicide and depression but also substance use.
THE RURAL URBAN MIGRATION PROBLEM
The emergence of urban slums in my country started during 2010 -2012, the time when the industrialization processes was rapidly increasing the demand of manual labour.
Continuing discrimination against young women and men and insufficient access for
them to equal opportunities in employment and education;
High levels of youth unemployment, including long-term unemployment;
Increasing incidence of diseases, such as malaria, the human immunodeficiency virus
After consulting with the community members and various other stakeholders the priority need of the youth is the inculcation of social values and norms of the society.
The approaches which I used were:
I. Inculcation of social values in youth.
II. Exposure to developed and proper way of living in and outside the community.
“The Credence” was dedicatedly working towards empowering the youth in the urban slums since the very first day of its inception in 2010, through several measures such as vocational training, (1200 youths trained), coaching, counselling and by several other measures. I have the expertise of relating with the youth and working towards their holistic empowerment with ample participation from all the stakeholders and a distinctive know how of making youth participate in various programmes
I PREVIOUSLY EMBARKED ON THE COMPAIGN STRATEGY THROUGH MASS DEMONSTRATIONS WHICH I PERSONALLY ORGANISED WITH MY FELLOW CONCERNED CITIZENS IN EARLY CHILD MARRIAGES IN THE REGION, THESE PEACEFUL DEMONSTRATION WAS ACHIEVED WITHOUT PROBLEMS BECAUSE THERE WAS MASSIVE SUPPORT FROM NEIGHBOURING REGIONS.
