Beyond the Classroom Reading Assessment
I have been an Educator since 2000. I have worked at different levels of the educational system, this has provided me with the opportunity to work with learners of varying abilities.
I am highly skilled in educational content creation, research & analysis, curriculum design & evaluation, conducting workshops, guest speaking, writing and problem solving.
I hold a Msc. in Curriculum and Instructions, a Bsc in Business Administration and a Diploma in Primary Education.
Experiences: Preparatory school teacher; all academic subjects, Grade Coordinator, Reading teacher and Visual Art and English to Csec level, along with City and Guilds English. PEP Books and Resources
Certificates includes:
-Certificate of Competence from Career Advancement Program (CAP) in Competency Based Education & Training Assessment Strategies
-Ministry of Education Certificate of Participation in Training in Content Area Reading, Comprehension and Summary Writing Instruction at the Secondary level.
FIU-Academic Certificate of Excellence
- Digital skills: Social media
The project will seek to address literacy by identifying the areas where the leaders have a problem along with their reading levels and then provide a tailored intervention.
This will elevate humanity especially persons living in remote areas and areas where English is not their first language or struggling Caribbean students.
I am working to address Reading problems and access to quality reading programs or resources.
I want to make this Reading program interactive using AI and Machine Learning. Each reader will take a Reading test starting with the letter sounds, sight words, oral reading and comprehension tests. Based on the information gathered from the Reading test; a level is identified along with errors grouped using the 3 Cue Systems. Then the intervention will focus on the use of the 3 Cue Systems and the 4 Block Approach to improve the Reading level.
The project will serve children in remote areas, vulnerable girls & women and struggling readers.
Based on how it is structured with AI and Machine Learning it can be loaded onto devices to be available wherever and whenever.
- Elevating opportunities for all people, especially those who are traditionally left behind
This project will elevate several individuals who were traditionally left behind; if I am able to have the AI/ Machine Learning version.
I came with this Reading program because I have been working with persons who have been reading below their grade levels. I have noticed some inadequacies in the Reading program used for Assessment; It does not fully identify the problems and it is in paper form and used multiple times. This means that after several uses, students become familiar with the words/ stories becauseof regular use and not because they can read.
Addressing this problem is important to me because I know that reading impacts all areas of life. If a person can read, it makes learning the other areas of learning possible.
I am well positioned to deliver this project because I have already completed the Reading Assessment up to level 6, created the Analysis Tables and the storyboard to be used for programming the computer.
I am trained and have the relevant experience to guide the success of this project.
The development and creation of this program is an example of being able to overcome adversity. It was created because of the difficulties and problems that I was having with the only available Reading Assessment test I was using.
I was the Managing Director of an Early Childhood Centre. In addition, I was the Grade Supervisor at a Preparatory School and the Head of Academics at a Secondary school.
- For-profit, including B-Corp or similar models
It is innovative because, there are no Reading program that is presently utilizing AI and Machine Learning in the assessment and provision of interventions.

This project can impact millions of people when completed.
My goal for the next five years is to have the Reading program online and adjusted versions available in other Caribbean countries.
The barriers include:
1. The program is still in the paper form and needs to be available online with AI and Machine Learning Software, that I can not provide.
2. A reliable Technological persons and the money to finance this project.
The money and the human resources received from the competition will help to create the online version.
I have not partnered with any group yet but one online school in Barbados is interested in having access to the content.
The program will be made available to groups or individuals who want to do a monthly subscription or to purchase the use of the program.
No funds have been raised yet.
None
The budget will be limited to creation of the online version: the pay for the person who will develop the AI/Machine Learning technology required and the actual software. This should be above or below US$50,000
I am applying because I need the funds to create this program and persons who can guide the decisions and provide well needed support.
- Funding and revenue model
- Talent recruitment
- Mentorship and/or coaching
- Board members or advisors
- Legal or regulatory matters
- Monitoring and evaluation
- Marketing, media, and exposure

I am in need of a lot of support, the only thing that I have is the required content.
A technology company, UNICEF, and other organisations that work with and provide support for people in remote areas
