Training about rights of minorities

My name is Jamel and I live in Iraq , got a certificate in Nursing science (Bachelor Degree) from Baghdad University

          In addition, I working  in  health promotion field  .My duties making  meeting and workshop with people and provide health education    to  nursing staff about how to preventing communicable diseases 

In second  ,  I had participated in international Fellowship in 2014 about minority rights and human rights with the support of United Nations commission for human right at Geneva ( OHCHR)in Swiss. I  was selected out of 13 activists and defenders  to this scholarship round the world. Thus is a great achievement for me for being selected out of 13 candidates, and I Received the fellowship certificate at the fields about human rights and minority  rights .  In addition ,  I am participated in  training courses  abroad country in Jordan, Bahrain , United Kingdom and Geneva ,Switzerland

I am committed to solve problem about  the importance of right of  minorities in Iraq,and because the minorities in Iraq had confronted displacement and killing by the armed groups ISIS during 2013-2018. ISIS These groups   killed a  displaced by force, rape women specially the Yazidi's women ,and taking all the personal properties and their houses even the Christians minority . I am proposing project about training includes educational or promotion workshops include explanation right of  minorities principles and standards and the relevant human rights mechanisms . My project elevate humanity by  making  Advocacy campaigns to pressure decision makers and the Iraqi  government to protect the minorities in my country from violence, armed conflict, and extremist groups and the importance of right of  minorities in Iraq  face that violence due to conflict . 

the specific problem that I am working to solve :   violence  against  right of  minorities for example  the conflict between Kurds and Arabs  on the oil-richs cities of Kirkuk and  Nineveh, the second largest governorate in Iraq in terms of population with a unique concentration of minorities in Kirkuk and  Nineveh . The Kurdish authorities in Nineveh faced stiff resistance from local Sunni Arabs and tense minorities over new domination . These Kurdish gains further further isolated the Sunni Arabs, turning Mosul into the epicenter of the Iraqi insurgency and Armed groups of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS) have appeared in Iraq during 2014 , the latest episode of violence and war caused by ISIS, which has killed 71,611 minorities, civilian casualties, and displaced 441,000 people. The factors contributing to the problem relate to my project a weak Iraqi state also plays a significant role in the persecution and suffering of minorities. Though the Iraqi constitution declares certain rights for minorities, the government does not fulfill the equally important task of actively protecting those rights already codified in law.  rhetoric that has led to massive oppression and violence, including genocide against  minorities

My  project  include training  educational or promotion workshops  explanation human rights principles and standards and the relevant human rights mechanisms especially in the field of minorities  violence , because minorities are important groups in society. Each workshop includes 3 days weekly. In each workshop (20 participants) and for duration (7) months and total workshops are (21) workshop .

Goals of the project 1 - Explain the concepts and terminology in human rights through the clarification of human rights mechanisms. 2- Strengthening awareness of public attitudes, beliefs and behaviors related to minorities rights and democratic participation by educating participants about minorities rights. 3- Enhancing the knowledge capacities of participants on minorities rights and Human right .

My project serve  the beneficiaries such as activists  of field in Human rights and minorities , women, policemen and  lawyers   for the       development of skills and capacity building on human rights       standards and principles regarding the rights of minorities and       Human Right ;  the different human rights monitoring mechanisms     in the United Nations system; and  covenants and treaties that       ratified by Iraq and         violations that begin by Terrorist   Daash crimes Such as       recruiting children to fight, violence against children, and the       transfer of extremist ideas to the minds of children through       social media and media channels .

I am  engaging to  develop the project by :  1- Make visits to areas that have conflicts of races, discrimination, sex abuses and spread the principles and law rules about minorities among them in such persuasive an seductive ways. 2- improving  skills in human rights and minorities advocacy and capacity-building on modern mechanisms of human rights advocacy. 3-   Making Advocacy campaigns through the use of media and social networking sites to influence the society and education of the human rights, minorities and  treaties and mechanisms

The Elevate Prize my project dimension   most  address  about Freedom of religion or belief by   support an initiative aiming to support religious reconciliation at a community level, by communicating messages of peace from influential religious leaders in order to combat sectarian violence

My story began by  participating    in international fellowship in 2014 about human rights an minority rights with the support of United Nations commission for human right at Geneva-Swiss.Mr.Jamel was selected out of 13 activists and defenders  to this scholarship round the world. Thus is a great achievement for the nominee for being selected out of 13 candidates, and he received the fellowship certificate at the fields if human rights and minority rights through an official ceremony held at the United Nations in Geneva-Swiss. The objects if these fellowships concern the rights and legislation's of Minorities and the International conventions about human rights and minority in addition to the woman liberation. And resist the violence and pressure against st human rights, development and human rights building abilities.

Members of Iraq’s ethnic minority communities were targeted by  increase in violence. Ethnic and religious minority groups in Iraq are more vulnerable to attacks because they do not have militias or traditional tribal structures that help protect themselves.  In response to the violence, members of Iraq’s minority communities have fled the country abroad  to escape the violence  The motivates  to pursue of  this work To preserve the rights of religious minorities from violence and sectarian discrimination, spread peace in my country, Iraq, and fight hate and armed violence against minorities

Yes, I have experience working with international defenders when I participated in training fellowship about minority rights and human rights in Geneva during 2014 and with support by the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights.international defenders from (Australia, Ukraine, Mauritania, Yemen, Lebanon and other countries). Currently I am communicating with colleagues through social networking sites about training opportunities and the sharing training grants about human rights . I have benefited from this training in exchanging experiences and information in field of human rights and advocacy. In addition , I have very good experience on international training opportunity sites. So, I have  members from  many locations for internship opportunities and international awards around the world

In my country, Iraq. The security situation is unstable. I had a problem with my project. I was able to use alternative sites that are stable security. In addition to that, I presented many training opportunities, but I did not nominate these opportunities. On my last chance, I nominate  for a training fellowship about  minority rights in Switzerland during 2014

Yes , currently I'm working now at Manager in Health Promotion Unit in  my Organization( Second job ) . My functional duties are making courses and  symposiums about different nursing and health subjects and human rights specially the role of human rights at the social and economic fields  and Increasing the level of health education among health workers through giving educational information in how to control pollution, for example, washing hands in the right ways due to they play such roles in preventing infection.  

so  other duties Improving skills of workers in the health sector about how to prevent the infection in hospitals through using the best ways of applying skills that are given to workers in training courses especially the applicable and theoretical sides inside the health Organization .In addition , I have been working in the healthcare field for more than 20 years. I have a long experience in nursing management, training and participated in a 4-month training course in the United Kingdom on a subject) Continuing Professional Development  English( CPD ) and other courses .

 I am applying for The Elevate Prize to  benefit from this award if I  wins.  The prize money will be used to provide training courses and workshops for activists and human rights defenders, and the contribution of other minorities to these workshops and training courses because they are very important groups in Iraqi society, and they need support and can do the same for women from religious minorities. Also, I  will work hard to encourage other defenders from Iraq to nominate this award in the future because of its importance and in relation to the activities of defenders around the world
