Science-Policy interfacing
I am a senior lecturer at the university of Dschang, holding a post-doctoral certificate from the university of Colorado, Boulder and a PhD in applied Development Sciences. Before that, I was a visiting scholar at MIT from 2014 to 2015.
The essence of this project is to showcase studies and analysis through both systematic and transformational impacts assessment to help Cameroonian citizens minimize risk of catching the COVID-19 and to help police-makers stopping the spread of the due illness.
Cameroon as well as the entire World faces the challenge of COVID-19, which occurred in China and spreaded around the world. A survey was carried out in Yaounde from March 17th to May 17th 2020 to identify the root causes of the propagation of this new virus in Cameroon and to prescribe a guideline to avoid it.
The objective of the project was to outline a guideline to help police-makers stopping the spread of COVID-19 in Cameroon. To achieve this ,20 persons Including two patients, were investigated through phone call.As key findings this study prescribes the following measures: hygiene, wearing mask and social distancing, confinement, tracking and build back better towards resilience.
The outbreak of COVID-19 and its Health, social, economic and environmental consequences in Cameroon are truly unprecedented: health care systems, Cameroon has temporary locked down it's borders, public life is being brought down to minimum and economy is experiencing dramatic slowdowns threatening the survival of small businesses. In 6th July 2020, Cameroon registered its second highest confirmed cases, 1188 in one day , the highest in Central Africa. The Number of cases in Cameroon today 13th July 2020 is more than 15000 confirmed cases, the highest in Central Africa.
The project is about carrying out research work using Tchouaffé's Theory of change (TToC) Model integrating all stakeholders to help responding, recovering and building back better from COVID-19 in Cameroon.
TToC is about integrating various disciplines and actors. It focuses on three kinds of knowledge' s transdisciplinary : systematic , targeted and transformational.
It originated from main approaches:
-Ranas (Mosler, 2015) to assess actors behavior
Voyelles (Demazeau,1989)to assess group of actors behavior
TToC which integrates two approaches will help the decision-makers to assess the impact and performance of the project on the local community,;moving for global perspective to local action.
TToC model is structured in three phases:
-Problem framing
-joinly conducting research
--Social impacts
In short, the upcoming project will examine the current pandemic in Cameroon, revamp the new ways to through banners, leaftets and build back better towards resilience of local communities.
The project serves the poor communities, peoples living slum areas which are vulnerable more affected by COVID-19. They are principal actors and the beneficiaries of the project.
The project will help decision-makers to respond recover and to build back better the health conditions of those poor people and their ecosystem in Cameroon.
The project will propose and advise on new normal mechanisms (4R) or building back better:
- Conditions to re-open their businesses , for health and economic responding, for social economic and environmental recovering and for resilience.
Thé project will sensitize the poor communities on the virus behavior which survival in the environment depends on temperature (less than 26°C) and relative humidity (H more than 60%), sinsitize them on how this.virus spreads and how to prevent it.
- Elevating issues and their projects by building awareness and driving action to solve the most difficult problems of our world
The project responds to the three options of Elevate prize.
In short the project will help and advise decision-makers on 4 mechanisms to build back better: Re-opening, responding, recovering, and resilience.
I come up with the project after the outbreak of the new Pandemic around the world.
I am highly sensitive when peoples are suffering ground me .
I have relatives who have been victim of COVD-19 and I am involved in many networks related COVID-19.
The adversity is the main challenge of every normal human being.
I am part of many networks.
- Nonprofit
The innovation is the TToC model to respond, recover and to build back better to stop spreading COVID-19 in Cameroon.
The TToC model is an integrated model which assesses and individuals behavior and their interaction.
TToC metric
For example with TToC formulation P: (1/n²Sum(Aagent))x100
We can calculate the performance of the project.
Where, A stand for the average score per actor on the likert scale (0,'1,2,3,4)
n : the total number of actors.
My theory of change TToC is a transdisciplinary research model to solve the wicker challenge like COVID-19.
TToC takes in consideration the complexity of ( social challenges) and facilitates the co-production of knowledge by integrating view points of all stakeholders and actors.
The actions to carry out will focus on 4 build back better mechanisms:
- Re-opening businesses and schools (short term outcome(
- Responding to health care system (short term outcome(
- Recovering (short term and long term outcome)
-Resilience (long term outcome)
New findings from WHO(2020) show that confirnement indoors is not sustainable because the COVID-19 as airborne disease with air condition indoors can be spread in more than 4 meters distance., why new of responding is needed in short term .

It serves more than 22 persons now , in one year it will serve more than 5000 persons.
My ambition is to reach more than 5000 persons in one year and more than 500000 persons the next five years.
Funding is the limiting factor.
I applied for the Elevate prize program to overcome my funding barriers.
I expect to partner with the municipality of Yaounde, Cameroon.
Framing the problem: 10000$
-Joinly conducting research with partner:20000$
Sensitisation for social impact,:500000$
We will partner with the local Community of Yaounde for the project implenentation and The blessed house business center for the masks and sanitizers fabric.
We examine the current pandemic speading , rethink adequate blended training (online through whatsapp and face-to face) for poor on how to rebuild back better.
We will produce masks and sanitizers for 10000$ in year one.
No
Yes,we will raise fund to design leaflets and sensitize the poor communities how to preserve their selve from COVID-19.
10000$ for producing Masks and sanitizers
I applied for Elevate prize for a sponsorship.
- Funding and revenue model
- Mentorship and/or coaching
- Board members or advisors
As partnership goal I!expect to meet funding model and mentorship.
Funding agency and mentorship.
