Kaxtik Jaaj
Uncertainty, mistrust and fear are the key factors when people go through critical situations like we are now. While surrounded by an excess of information, we no longer know who to trust. In addition, most of the information is full of technical terms and in languages we cannot understand.
When we find ourselves in this situation, the usual thing is to turn to trusted people and ask for advice. However, what happens if they do not have adequate information?
Kaxtik Jaaj ("looking for the truth" in Mayan) was born to overcome these challenges and serve as a connection between the information you need and the people you trust the most. By reporting expertly endorsed data to key actors in society, Kaxtik Jaaj seeks to serve as a platform for mayan communities to overcome infodemics and medical stigma in order to build ties for a more united and well informed community
The uncertainty, mistrust and fear among people living in mayan communities, caused by language barriers and misinformation during a pandemic.
Get to connect and inform the communities about prevention and management of health issues, by first generating trustfull information sources in a centrified manner, to then give the communities the tools and knowledgement in familiar channels so then can start to prevent the propagation by their own manners impacting the diseases propagation in the long term.
The solution focuses on the Mayan communities around the state of Yucatan and seeks to impact their lives by distributing reliable information communicated by key stakeholders in the communities in a simple, accessible and culturally adapted way so that they can make informed decisions that preserve their health.
We can state that the problem, solution and target described above are well-aligned to the Challenge because they fulfill the expectations that we as tech innovators have a crucial role to play, both in the near term and to prevent and mitigate future disease outbreaks. Kaxtik Jaaj project is an improved solution for prevention, accurate information, and rapid response, since MIT Solve is seeking tech innovations that can slow and track the spread of an emerging outbreak. It will help people to be prepared for future epidemics and pandemics, by giving these communities the tools and knowledgment in familiar channels.
- Concept: An idea being explored for its feasibility to build a product, service, or business model based on that idea
- A new business model or process
We apply a disruptive solution that focuses on community driven information, we believe in the power of word of mouth and the fact of communities participating in the solution process in a way that is comfortable and accessible to them. Our model innovates in the way the information is distributed more and how it is generated by involving the communities in this process in an active manner, we believe that this ensures the fact this is the only way in which they will find the information to be more organic and trustworthy.
The technology behind the project focuses on an innovative platform that is the product of the relationships between various stakeholders, it is a platform adapted to the cultural context and with custom made information

Language, reach different sectors of the community and infodemics.
*Language: information certified and properly translated
*Reaching different sectors among the community through the most suitable channel.
*Infodemics: an opinion leader will be communicating official recommendations. Also, they will identify the most common misunderstandings about the virus, prevention methods, among others and generate content to answer those common doubts.

Regarding Funding and Partnerships, it would be with government departments & agencies and other civil actors, companies, enterprises, in-kind donations, partnerships with professionals (Marketing professionals, influencers, television channels, radio channels, among others) and also use an NGO donation channel to receive donations to operate monthly. Also sponsors.
- Organizations (B2B)
We aim to generate trust in the project so that our funds will be raised through partnerships with local government departments and agencies, civil society, and enterprises. In addition, we will have an open NGO donation channel to receive monetary and in-kind donations that are expected to cover monthly operating expenses. Also we will expose the sponsors we have to let the world know who is funding us.
First of all, because we want to solve world challenges starting at home, we truly believe in the concept "think globally, act locally". Also, to make us part of solving the problems the world is facing, we highly value partnerships since teamwork is so important and MIT Solve Community is the best place to foster innovation.
- Product/service distribution
- Funding and revenue model
- Marketing, media, and exposure
our alliances are mainly focused on getting promotions and liaising between important stakeholders in the communities
We would like to partner with civil society through "local councils" that will be in charge of promoting the project with the communities. We would also like the government support, which could help us with the main objective of having access to existing social programs that connect us with different geographical areas.
