An Answer

The most effective way to help is to change the way society operates.

The problem this answer solves is how to reduce the need for displaced workers to earn an income that is as high or higher than the one they are earning today. America has a history of making necessities inexpensive, food is just one example. Necessities, like utilities and education, and consumer goods that are widely used need to be way cheaper for displaced workers to afford living. Automation of supply chains will make the "typical" working day obsolete. Displaced workers will spend less time at work, and need to be able to work for less than 20 hours a week and still be able to afford to to live. There are certain things the government will have to provide to reduce the cost burden on people - the main things being utilities. Ultimately, the government will need to reduce the need to earn an income. For example, if the U.S overhauled their transportation system in a way that meant more bus/bikes/walking instead of cars, the need to purchase a car goes away. Now what about the profit makers - the ones responsible for manufacturing the car? They will have to see a decline in profits because their goods are no longer highly demanded. Firms, like displaced workers, will have to reinvent themselves. 

This is a process for solving the Challenge. It allows humans to continue to be humans and demands a higher standard of government. Both are needed for society to grow. 

Technology is imperative. The reason why goods can be sold cheaply is because technology has enabled manufactures to drastically cut their costs.

Households and commercial real estate needs to be compensated for the utilities that they do not use - essentially energy sharing. It's evident that energy is being used the most by people who make the most. Yet, the cost of energy isn't equitably shared. In the next 12 months, there needs to be a new way that charges people for their energy. Create a reasonable cap of energy for each household/unit/firm. When an entity does not exceed the cap, let them get compensated for their energy saving by letting them use it for the next period or sell it. 

Over the next few years, cost of shelter must be handled. It is simply too expensive, in major cities especially, for everyone to live in a house/apt.This doesn't have to be the case. There are more efficient and cheaper ways of creating housing, this includes the materials used and labor involved.
