SERENITY
The coronavirus has led to a pandemic, but an even greater problem is that it may reemerge, mutate, and it is difficult to detect. Programmable living stem cells, or xenobots, can be coordinated with supercomputers and antiviral spray agents (developed in Hong Kong) to search, detect, and destroy different strains of the coronavirus. Our xenobots not only see the virus at the microscopic level but also help supercomputers indicate the presence and mutation of the virus, reporting to public databases around the world. This information would then be interchanged and constantly update public places of its safety, eliminating the worry of contagion, thus reassuring hospitals, airline companies, hotels, factories, and cities that they are safe and can breathe freely. The applications of SERENITY's ideas are boundless, as we plan to take action in third world countries by inhibiting the spread of the virus through poor sanitation/sewage systems.
Although quarantine restrictions have recently been lifted, the cases reported for COVID-19 are multiplying around the world. As businesses and public areas open up, the spread of the coronavirus increases, which will lead to mutation and reemergence of the virus. Since the symptoms for the virus may take up to 14 days to show(WHO), detecting the virus early and preventing infected people from spreading is improbable. Given these, the specific problem that SERENITY addresses is detecting coronavirus early on and not only destroying the virus in places of high public traffic, but also giving reliable data about the safety of certain areas. In countries with poor sanitation, the coronavirus is highly likely to emerge again, since the spread of viruses is fast without proper sewage systems and hygiene. SERENITY also addresses this problem, which is significant in countries such as India, Nigeria,, China, Brazil, etc., by implementing xenobots in the wastewater of these countries to detect the emergence and destroy the virus early on. The coronavirus has globally depreciated economies and public health with 7.82 million confirmed cases worldwide (Wikipedia) and 13.3% unemployment rate in the U.S.A. (Federal Reserve), thus our solution is vital to bring back peace of mind.
SERENITY's solution is to implement a system of monitoring public areas’ safety using synthetic organic bio-bots that are coordinated with supercomputers and an antiviral spray. The micro-machines, or xenobots, will be programmed to send information of the environment at the microscopic level and release an antiviral spray agent upon detection of coronavirus. The xenobots will be 3D printed and implanted within the surfaces of public areas and even in sewage systems, and then will send the data it collects to supercomputers. The supercomputers will constantly receive information, analyze the behavior of any viruses to determine reemergence or presence, and update the public places, public health officials, and databases of their safety.
SERENITY's xenobots will be implemented in any commonly touched surfaces and high traffic areas such as in bathrooms(sinks, toilets, door handles), floors, escalators/stairs, walls, etc. Given this, SERENITY's applications are limitless. Such applications include in seats and poles in subways/trains/buses( this would allow for safer public transportation ), in devices that people are required to touch as a part of airport security, in hospital rooms( to diminish contagion between patients and doctors/nurses ), and in the sewer water of cities' sewage systems. Our solution will directly benefit the areas in which it is integrated since public health would constantly be monitored. In countries with a lack of properly maintained and treated sewage systems, our xenobots will destroy and detect the virus in cities early on through people's feces in wastewater and update public databases and health officials for further action. Countries with poor sanitation such as India, China, Brazil, Nigeria, and Ethiopia are at high risk for coronavirus mutating and emerging again. However, the implementation of SERENITY's xenobots will detect the virus before further spread, destroy the virus throughout cities, and bring the world together through a linkage of supercomputers to inhibit contagion.
The part of the Health Security and Pandemic Challenge that our solution addresses is how we can prevent future pandemics and detect contagious viruses, particularly coronavirus, early before it takes the lives of hundreds of thousands. SERENITY addresses how to help countries with poor sanitation/sewage systems( implementing xenobots in wastewater ), since viruses are likely to emerge in these regions. SERENITY also addresses the highly contagious nature of coronavirus such as being transmitted from touching an infected surface by proposing to implement xenobots to search for, detect, and destroy coronavirus on any commonly touched surface.
- Concept: An idea being explored for its feasibility to build a product, service, or business model based on that idea
- A new application of an existing technology
Publicly, there are very few groups using xenobots as detection and mediation devices, given that xenobots were developed very recently only. Nanotechnology have been used in the body to deliver drugs, so we believe xenobots can also work on external materials. The usage of xenobots to detect coronavirus opens up countless possibilities and bolsters preventive public health. Once this virus mutates, there will be new outbreaks of not only coronavirus but other highly contagious viruses. However, the xenobots can work proactively in sewage systems, combining various technologies such as the MAP-1 antiviral spray, to amplify the destruction of viruses for neighborhoods and even cities. Currently, the application of nanotechnology is limited to the human body for repairing body parts or strengthening the immune system. But the use of xenobots monitoring the environment and commonly touched surfaces will raise public health standards and prevent the coronavirus from emerging again. Rather than working to treat the human after they have been affected, xenobots can transform the approach to preventing the outbreak, as they will work to not only destroy the virus but detect the presence of a virus early on, which helps prevention since coronavirus can be asymptomatic. Moreover, the connection of xenobots with supercomputers, allows health officials to take immediate action, as the supercomputers can analyze and update the nature/presence of viruses in the microscopic surroundings of the xenobots. Finally, xenobots are both biodegradable and biocompatible, making it much better for the environment and simpler than intricate machines.
Our SERENITY xenobots, the means of monitoring the surfaces of public areas, will be derived from the embryonic stem cells of African clawed frogs. Using evolutionary algorithms to make blueprints of how to shape the xenobots, the cells will be programmed to detect viruses on the surfaces of commonly touched areas and release the antiviral thyme spray known as MAP-1(distributed by GERMAGIC) upon detection of the virus. This blueprint model, designed by a quantum computer, will then be used to 3D print the best suited xenobots for detecting coronavirus and releasing the spray. Along with this, our xenobots will be able to collect information regarding the nature of the coronavirus and other viruses it detects by functioning in groups of xenobots and using sensors that can show the microscopic surroundings of the xenobot. This information will then be sent to an interconnected web that the supercomputers can instantly access, analyze, then transfer to health officials and public databases, so they can act on the information immediately.

When we are presented with a problem that is as dangerous as the current global pandemic, it is vital that diverse technologies come together in order to protect human lives and prevent future danger. The coronavirus pandemic has inspired innovation around the world, but not enough has been achieved to confirm a safer future, free of the possibility for mass contagion. The concept of combining powerful technologies against the virus will not only bring physical wellbeing, but also bring mental "serenity", since our system of xenobots relaying information and destroying viruses can assure neighborhoods and cities of their safety. The effects of the coronavirus pandemic have been astronomical in terms of job loss, a decline in mental health, and related illnesses/deaths due to contagion and the threat of. Through SERENITY’s manifestation of nanotechnology, artificial intelligence, and quantum computing, we can eliminate threats until vaccines are confirmed.

As soon as SERENITY is deployed, it will serve as the hand sanitizer for the physical infrastructure of the entire world. We can deploy this as soon as we link the synthetic organic bio-technology with the antiviral Hong Kong spray and global supercomputers and develop reliable xenobots to detect coronavirus. Within the next year we will only focus on perfecting this technology(0 current and within next year), but within the next five years we will be impacting lives around the world(around 10,000,000)
Within the next year, we want to be able to test and confirm that our xenobots can successfully detect different viruses and release the spray. Within the next five years, supercomputers/quantum computers (developed by quantum computing companies and NASA) around the world should link to create a routine for health officials to update citywide and countrywide databases using our xenobots’ data and prevent threats of viruses.
WIthin the first year we must overcome integrating the technology after many trials and developing a good network between the xenobots, the public area, and the supercomputer.
In the next five years our barriers will include Working with global policies that will be enacted to regulate use of xenobots throughout cities and their connectivity with supercomputers. Ensuring that the technology is binded by a global treaty to maintain the same level of interconnectivity with supercomputers and countries around the world is another barrier that must be overcome in the next five years.
By linking xenobot research with quantum computing companies/NASA’s supercomputers and artificial intelligence research we can overcome the technological barriers for the manifesting SERENITY into a reality. On the diplomatic front, we must work with the World Health Organization and United Nations to assist every country with the implementation of SERENITY. By moving forward with these pathways, we can implement SERENITY for the safety and security of the world.

One worker; Aryan Jain(me).
I am a current high school student who has taken college level computer science courses along with college level quantum computing courses. I have researched xenobots and their unique applications for a few months now and will continue to pursue this.
Currently we are looking to contact specific quantum computing companies(Rigetti, Alice and Bob, Fermiland) along with the developers of the xenobot to support our solution(S.Kriegman, D.Blackiston, M.Levin, J.Bongard).
SERENITY will be established as a non-profit, as a commitment to preventing future epidemics and bringing back peace of mind for public health and safety. SERENITY will begin by implementing xenobots in few, metropolitan cities in the USA and connecting these with supercomputers. Once this step has demonstrated success, we will begin taking action in third world countries with poor sanitation and sewage systems by implementing xenobots and linking them to global supercomputers of Open Science. We will need to connect with quantum computing companies and NASA and the inventors of the xenobots at the University of Vermont and Tufts University. Our primary resources will include researchers for development and SERENITY.com( being developed ). Paying for research development, partnerships with companies, and implementation of SERENITY in cities will be our biggest costs. Government recognition by organizations such as the World Health Organization and the National Institutes of Health will be key in advancing our product and connectivity into underdeveloped countries. Our impact will be demonstrated by the expansion of SERENITY into the third world countries and the integration of SERENITY as a method of early detection of viruses. With this innovative application of recent technology, countries will once again have "serenity" for public health and safety.
- Organizations (B2B)
Since we plan to establish SERENITY as a non-profit Open Science Company, most of our funding will come from government grants and partnerships with companies and research institutions. Some companies we plan to connect with quantum computing companies such as Rigetti, Alice and Bob, and Fermilab. We also plan to work with the original xenobot inventors, Sam Kriegman, Douglas Blackiston, Michael Levin, and Josh Bongard at the University of Vermont and Tufts University. Using this research money, and grants from Open Science, we will begin to test and deploy our product in the U.S.A first.
The support from the extended network and nine months of mentoring will greatly benefit SERENITY. Since SERENITY is currently a concept, the networking SERENITY will get for further funding along with guidance for how to truly impact our target population is what our solution needs to start making a real impact in the world. The initial funding received from becoming a solver will allow for us to go deeper in our research of nanotechnology and fulfill the idea by connecting with supercomputers. The network as well will help us partner with quantum computing companies and the inventors of the xenobot, which will direct our idea with the right approach.

SERENITY is far from making this concept a reality, however, our goal perpetuates: to give back to the community. We need partnerships with quantum computing companies, so SERENITY can develop algorithms for analyzing the behavior of viruses in the microscopic surroundings of our xenobots. We hope to partner with government organizations, universities, and companies to get funding to initiate research, integrate the powerful technology we described, develop a clear approach to harvest the full potential of SERENITY's ideas.
We would like to partner with quantum computing companies, specifically Rigetti, Alice and Bob, and Fermilab. These companies will support our first steps in analyzing the nature of coronavirus using visual models from the xenobots' microscopic surroundings. We would also like to partner with xenobot developers Sam Kriegman, Douglas Blackiston, Michael Levin, and Josh Bongard to test our innovative application of their technology.
SERENITY is qualified for this prize because our applications of artificial intellgince research with xenobots is direct, since we will coordinate A.I. to release an antiviral spray agent and destroy coronavirus. SERENITY will use the AI for Humanity Prize to develop evolutionary algorithms and run tests, so that we can play a role in preventing future pandemics by destroying viruses using xenobots.
SERENITY will be established as a non-profit with the goal in mind to work towards making underdeveloped cities more sustainable. Using The People's Prize funding, SERENITY will be able to integrate our solution in countries with poor sanitation and sewage systems, which will help in developing more sustainable cities and building their infrastructure.
