Kitui water solutions group aims at helping poor communities have access to clean water, through repair and maintenance of non-fuctionable boreholes and installation of broken parts in shallow well pumps. This has been a challenge since the community doesn't have experience to do it on their own and they don't have funds to hire a technician to work for them in times of break down of pipes and pumps.

If the poor communities are able to purchase the materials for repair and maintenance, the problem will be solved and they could be able to have access to clean water for drink and domestic use.

Since kamba community is located in a semi arid region, having access to clean water will safe them from walking long distances in search of water, will safe them from water Born diseases and also will safe them by washing handset to fight COVID-19.

We focus on repair and maintenance of boreholes and shallow well pumps. 

Poor maintenance of boreholes has led to lack of water in semi arid regions. Most of rivers in the region are seasonal and communities can't rely on them for water hence they do rely on boreholes provided by the government and handed over to the community members to maintain them. The community house hold affected is in a scale of 8:10. In a population of 5230, over 3000 people within the region are affected.

1. Poor maintenance of the resources has led to lockdown of the water project.

2. Poor management of funds has led to misunderstanding and made community to stop the water from being used. 

3. Poor installed pipes which bursts Everytime when water is pumped has led to the problem.

4. Lack of knowledge on how to repair the pipe bursts and how to replace new meters and pipes has led to water project failure.

REPAIR AND MAINTENANCE

visiting the affected regions to identify the problem. 

Bursts occurs due to high pressured water during pumping session. The poor quality pipes breaks and causes leakage ( a burst). We repair by use of tangit glue to connect the pipes to the broken part. We also replace non-fuctionable meters.

REHABILITATION OF WATER PROJECTS.

Some water projects stopped long time ago hence community never enjoyed the outcome. If the community members buys materials,we volunteer to do the technical work to them. Installation of new pipes, repair of failed pump machine and meters and doing new connection to the community who are interested to pay water monthly at their house.

Our mission to repair and maintenance enables more than 5000 poor communities members in kitui county have access to clean water. The community cannot handle the technical maintenance on their own and we decided to help them.

We do research on broken boreholes by collecting data from the village administrators who have the correct data of boreholes in their regions. After that, we do engage to the community members who manages the Projects to do the work together. We do teach them on how to handle minor problems without hiring a technician.

When the problem of boreholes breakdown is solved, this bring a change to a big number within the community. Having access to clean water, heals their hanger from walking long distances in search of water. This safes women, girls and old people in the region.

Poor technical maintenance of the project led to poverty due to lack of water. Water is life and everyone needs water inorder to live healthy and grow food (agriculture). Through our volunteering, we have quenched alot of communities thirst. There is a change because every person within the rehabilitated water project area enjoys the work of our hands.

Repair and maintenance has changed people's lives. We have been able to help a big number of community members and we feel that through getting support,we will go far in sustainability development and climate change.
