Newdigit Electronic Incinerator
medical waste handling in Nigeria is one of the biggest problem in healthcare, as more than 2 tons of medical waste generated are not properly treated before dumping, posing a threat to health workers and nearby community.
Our solution is a low carbon electronically controlled incinerator that disinfect and destroy medical waste at the point of creation. controlling outbreaks and preventing infection.
Our target customers are rural and urban hospitals in Nigeria. But our beachhead focus is private hospitals located in rural district of southern Nigeria with a market size of 2,000.
Our business model is a circular model, where we sell our product as a service with an initial amount of $100 per unit and charge $50 per month as service charge which also cover for maintenance.
Currently we have distributed 2 units of our product with a constant monthly revenue of $100.
We are solving the problem of spread of infectious disease from poor handling of medical waste in Rural and Urban hospitals in Nigeria. The current practice of disposing medical waste in hospitals in Nigeria is the use of conventional trash cans, after which the waste is finally dump in the Bush. The problem with this practice is that waste scavengers, Elderly and Young visits this dump site to scavenge for items and properties. In the process they get in contact with the medical waste and become expose to contagious disease leading to outbreaks. According to the research done by Olufunsho Awodele on Assessment of medical waste management in seven hospitals in Lagos, that was published on NCBI. The medical wastes generated range from 0.116 to 0.561 kg/bed/day, while the total waste is about 215.56 kg/day. Thus, the average generation rate is approximately 0.181 kg/bed/day. ... Soiled cotton wool, swab and gloves were also classified by 69.5 % of the respondents as infectious wastes, dumped poorly. This is a big threat to the society and a serious challenge to both big and small hospitals not only I the rural part of Nigeria, but also in other developing nations.
Our solution is a carbon friendly electronic affordable efficient incinerators for disinfecting medical waste. It uses hydrogen generated from solar panels via the process of electrolysis to heat up the waste. It is controlled by standalone circuit which is used to open the trail for the waste to be collected, the trail is motorize to move to the burning/heating chamber where the waste products is heated to about 900 degrees, disinfecting and converting the solid waste to a particulate nature. The exhaust chamber has many layers sequestration techniques that removes carbon and other particulate matter from the gas residue. Our solution is solving a big challenge in major hospitals located in both rural and urban regions. It is uniquely different because it uses zero emission solar panels and hydrogen and its controlled electronically which helps reduce contact.
There are more than 22 Thousand local hospitals in Nigeria mostly located in clustered rural communities that lack pipe born water and rely on nearby river for drinking, washing and bathing. Most medical waste dumped in the usual site gets connected to the river beds during rainfall, putting the entire community at risk of deadly infectious disease outbreaks.
Our solution is a contactless low carbon electronic incinerator design for local and rural hospitals in Nigeria to help them efficiently manage their medical waste in such a way that protect medical staffs, patients and the nearby community from risk of contagion.
Firstly our electronic base tech will prevent surface contact on the door of the incinerator which will help prevent the spread of contagious diseases, secondly and most importantly, our Incinerator treats the medical waste at the point of creation, therefore preventing disease outbreak that mostly occur from polluted community rivers during rainfall and also the scavenging of massive dumping sites.
Our solution helps to manage and treats the medical waste at the point of creation. It will help prevent disease outbreaks that usually result from dumping of medical waste in a land fill open for scavenging and often times link to Community Rivers. Also during a pandemic outbreak, the effort by the government to curb the outbreak releases more than 2 tons of associated medical waste of infected equipment per day, our solution serve as a pandemic responds to help reduce the Spread of the infectious disease by treating and managing the medical waste at the point of creation.
- Pilot: An organization deploying a tested product, service, or business model in at least one community
- A new application of an existing technology
Local incinerators in Nigeria hospitals are done by brick layers with bricks and molds. However international incinerator manufacturers with office in Nigeria design their incinerators manually without considering points of contacts to the system during disposal and also without considering greenhouse emission. Below are the competitors
1. Ajamy Oil & Gas Limited (AOGL)
2. Pennram Diversified Manufacturing Corporation.
4. Addfield Environmental Systems Ltd.
5. DEWDROPSIGNATURES LIMITED.
6. The Initiates Plc., (TIP)
7. AEREON.
The innovation around our solution is very crucial in controlling the spread of infectious diseases and also protecting the environment at the same time. Our innovative solution differs from other competitors in the following ways.
1. Our solution uses electrolysis from solar panels to generate and store hydrogen which is use to disinfect and destroy the Medical waste. This help reduce the carbon content release to the environment.
2. It comes with an automated fan to supply oxygen to the system to achieve complete combustion.
3. the Entire system is automatic and electronically controlled to reduce contact to the system
4. Sequestrated Chamber: Our exhaust chamber contains sequestrated chambers containing water solutions which dissolves carbon dioxide and particulate matters. which reduce carbon emission drastically.
Our solution uses the following core technologies
1. Micro controllers
2. Electronic Gas valves
3. Gas leakage and Temperature sensors
4. Electronic Load Cells
5. Electronic Blowers
6. hydrogen Generator
Our solution is currently serving one hospital, disinfecting and destroying 150kg of waste per day. In one year we will be selling to 200 Hospitals in southern Nigeria, and in five years time we estimated to cover 15,000 Hospitals across all of Nigeria

Our solution is currently serving one hospital, disinfecting and destroying 150kg of waste per day. In one year we will be selling to 200 Hospitals in southern Nigeria, and in five years time we estimated to cover 15,000 Hospitals across all of Nigeria.
Our first goal is to reduce the spread of infectious disease from improper disposal of hazardous waste in Nigeria.
Our second goal reduce carbon emission from illegal burning of medical waste and other waste by scaling beyond hospitals and innovating more efficient ways of disinfecting general waste to prevent carbon emission from the usual illegal burning.
- Fabricating facility
- Limited Finance
The central core of our innovation is manufacturing facility. We currently use local materials, and rudimentary weathering machines which took us 27 days to build 1. With good fabricating facility we will be deliver in a shorter period and meet up with demand.
We currently develop our solution based on request due to limited number of finance to have a full product upfront. However With enough finance we can develop our product on ground and market to hospitals.
- We plan to secure a partnership with a manufacturing firm to enable us manufacture at a cheaper cost.
- We also plan to secure a grant of 150,000 dollars to meet up with production demands.
- For-profit, including B-Corp or similar models

We manufacture and sell a low carbon, electronically controlled contactless incinerator for disinfecting and destroying medical waste to both private and government hospitals in Nigeria. The cost of manufacturing a unit of our product is $3,611. We sell this product to hospitals as a service, with an initial service fee of $200 for installation and a constant monthly subscription fee of $100/month. Generating a revenue of $1,200 dollars per year from a single unit. We estimated to sell 200 unit in year 1, with a total operating cost of $722,222. Our projected revenue from monthly subscription fee is $240,000 in year one, breaking even in year three, with a continuous and constant net profit of 240,000 from subsequent years.
- Organizations (B2B)
Our path to funding begins with each co-founder contributing their resources and time to work for couple of months to achieve a proof of concept to market our concept to potential buyers and then seek for seed investment from families and friends to meet up with one clients. We plan to scale from an angel investment of $50,000 to build and sell 15 units of our products, which will attract investors for series investment to expand our market rich and production lines.
